Brennan, Barlow, Schmidt, Bevan, Dempster, Vogels, Grundy, Laidlaw... Led by MALCESKI as Captain. These are the players of the future, tho we will still have the likes of McV, Buchannan, Schneids, Goodes, C Bolton, Matthews, ROK, Kirk etc for some time yet... The guard is changing, and so it must. We wont see the likes of Hall, Spider, Leo, Micky O for too much longer I feel.

Our young talent is underrated by many. People seem to think that simply because we don't play many youngsters, they suck.

I'm not sure our hierach are going to hang to Vogels

I would have thought with some young players time opening up if he was going to be a prospect for them they would have played him.

What about phillips and jack, plus i doubt all those mentioned will stay with us in coming years

malceski is a future captain, no doubt about it, but i still think he's playing with an injury.....
and we've been due injuries, the good run couldn't last forever, specially with our older playing list and the intense physical style we've maintained for five years
geez, i can't believe brett kirk actually gets outa bed every monday morning

i said it some weeks ago and will repeat it now: o'loughlin must be very close to retiring, don't be surprised if there's an announcement during the finals series

Sadly i agree,Mickey has finally run out of Magic. His body is telling him enough!
He is an awesome player, but i dont think we want him to retire as a cripple.
We have to face facts that, the next 2 years are going to be hard,as we rebuild
the team.We have some good prospects in the reserves, but, how many with talent, are going to stick around, playing in Canberra comp, waiting for senior players to drop off the perch?????/

B: Bevan, Brennan, Jack
HB: Jack, Dempster, Bird
C: Barlow, Schneider, Laidlaw
HF: McVeigh, Grundy, ?
F: Philips, Vogels, ?
Foll: White, Malceski, Schmidt

Would be nice to think about things like that. Bit far off though.

Move Bird to the centre. He's a classic centreman if ever I saw one. Schneider's not. He does his best work along the flanks.

If Grundy makes it I think it will be either at FF or FB. I don't think he'll ever have the legs to make it as a CHF or CHB. For now, put him at FF, White at CHF and drop Vogels (don't think he'll be around). Currie can take White's place in the ruck.

Don't think Dempster will ever make a key position player but Barlow might. Swap the two around.

Jack's played just two games with modest returns. I like him but it's a bit too soon to think about cloning him. Remove the Jack from the HBF (keep the one in the back pocket) and put the 'Eski back there. I think it's his natural position. Captain Kirk can take 'Eski's place as a follower. He'll still be playing in a decade!!

Slip DOK in on a HFF - pretty clever player and knows where the goals are.

Brennan may make it but don't think my sanity will if our next FB is the same height as our current one. Let's think about putting a big body back there. At the moment Rowe looks the most likely source.

Hopefully a few more of our current crop will stick around a bit too - Buchanan is a similar age to some you've stuck with.

And of course the chances of all those being around in a decade or so is close to nil.;)

The Top 10 Players (Born in 1984 or after) who had played 25 or less entering this season:

1. Nick Malceski
2. Tim Schmidt
3. Matthew Laidlaw
4. Ed Barlow*
5. Heath Grundy
6. Jarred Moore
7. Kieren Jack*
8. Jessie White
9. Daniel O'Keefe
10. Luke Brennan*

Not on the list (no order): Ryan Brabazon, Daniel Currie, Peter Faulks, Simon Phillips, Jonathan Simpkin, Kristin Thornton, Matthew Davis*, Matt O'Dwyer*, Sam Rowe*, Earl Shaw* and Nick Smith*.

*Rookie Listed Player

Player Born 1984 or after who have played 25 or more (no order)

Paul Bevan, Sean Dempster, Jarrad McVeigh and Adam Scheider.

So yes we have quite some depth and we have to add three draft pick at the very least, we trying to the likes of Brennan, Barlow and Jack on the senior list if we want to keep them (with no retirements looking likely). Meaning we have to cut players from either the above list or make hard calls on someone like a Ben Mathews or a Jared Crouch.

Doyle and Vogels look like they are in the position to be cut (Doyle because we have Currie coming though to take over the third ruckman spot and Vogels is older than many people think and Grundy is better to keep around than Vogel because he has room and age on his side for devolopment. I then say move O'Loughlin and Barry onto the Veteran's List outside the squad of 38 to open up two more spots and dislist Simpkin and Brabazon.

That leave 6 open spots. Two are then used to promote 2 of Brennan, Barlow and Jack and 4 are then used in the National Draft. Our Last Pick used to take Craig Bird with the local selection and try and Father/Son Darcy Daniher with either our 3rd Pick if he wants to come to us, if not, bid our 2nd pick and hope Essendon don't bite.

Other two selections would then be K/P in the 1st Round and best available with the remaining pick.

geez, i wasnt meaning we write off almost all the current list. Surely Goodes, ROK, Davis, Jolls, Kirk, Bolton C, Buchannan have a few more goor/great years in them yet.
