Re: Early odds:

Also, isn't there a stat in the NFC South where the team who finished last the previous year has a trend of winning the division the next year? So...there you go, i just remembered that. So maybe I'll push that prediction higher than WC.

Yeah but Tampa's D was actually good the previous year, and they signed up Garcia, the vital cog to winning the Div, plus they got lucky with the Saints sucking balls for the first 4 games...

Re: Early odds:

Ok, I have a GG special for you Woodson. Ready for it? Atlanta to vie for a WC spot. I believe they'll suprise many. I have a feeling.

Re: Early odds:

gg's trying to wind me up. :)

Yes gg, in the last 5 seasons the NFC South has seen teams go from last-to-first.

Other than that statistical pattern, what other reason is there that Falcons will improve? I can't even think of one position where I reckon they'll be more productive this year over last.

Listen to the ad's the Falcons are running on Atlanta radio and even they don't believe they'll win this year. Their ad's are like "We know we're shit, but we need your support". I'll see if I can find a recording of one, they're actually quite funny.

Re: Early odds:

Speak of the devil. I'm not the only one that's noticing the Falcons marketing.

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/falcons/2008-07-21-marketing-cover_N.htm

I loved this quote :

"This is clearly the worst sports town in America," says Moore. "In order to attract people in Atlanta, you've got to give them flash and a gimmick. In the Falcons' case, it begins and ends with Michael Vick."

Moore isn't convinced that winning is an elixir.

"I don't know that it makes a difference," he says.

I remember pre draft people poo-poo'ing the suggestion that the Falcons might still be tempted to take McFadden if he was available.

This was the logic I was basing that call on.

Atlanta needs a star and currently they don't have one. Not sure if having a white one will help either even if Ryan turns out to be one.

Re: Early odds:

I'm not trying to wind you up, but if I manage to then that's a bonus.
But, I'm being for real. Otherwise it wouldn't be a gg special.
Here are some reasons why....

1. Thomas Dimitroff
2. Mike Smith
3. Chris Redman, Matt Ryan
4. Offensive weapons kinda team (a la Saints 2006)

Very low-key team now, with low-key type of management and players/coaches. There'll be a quiet work-ethic about this team. They will have trouble on defense, but I think they'll do really well offensively and stay healthy, finding unity and direction after the Vick and Petrino and Mora affairs.

Re: Early odds:

Or would you rather me talk up the Panthers as superbowl-caliber? lol
TBH, I can see an argument for the Panthers improving this season.

I like their D (some great you talent), I like their RB (the young one), I like their WR's (even if they're old).

I hate their QB situation though.

Jake Delhomme is alright,if he can stay healthy the WR will def benefit

Re: Early odds:

Jake is a serviceable QB when he plays to his limitations.

He thinks he's Brett Favre these days thinking he can create plays. Jake forces it when he doesn't need to force it.

Lots of 'ifs' and 'maybes' around the Panthers this season but it wouldn't surprise me if they put in a Tampa Bay 2007 type performance.

The South will be competitive this season . . . except the Falcons.

It's why I laugh at gg's suggestion.

The Saints (Ellis,Vilma,Shockey), the Panthers & the Bucs all look like teams that will improve this season. I'll get around to doing a full NFC South preview soon, but I can tell you, the Falcons will go 0-6 in the division. They might pinch a win against the Lions, Raiders or Rams, but they won't win one in the division.

Re: Early odds:

Another one choking on laughter at the suggestion. Hell, even Vick<Footy would probably laugh at me. But like I said to Woodson, if you didnt die laughing now, you will from shock later.

As for Carolina's QB situation....they're in FINE hands with Matt Moore should Delhomme go down. That boy can play.

Re: Early odds:

Matt Moore

Sucks up to his wife, is scared of spiders, plays ping pong in his spare time and is an American Idol fan.

He's a whimp. :)

All that's beside the point, it's what he does behind Center that matters. Hell, Andrew Walter is a strict Bible man who goes fishing with his dad, isnt one of those 70's Raiders urchins, yet I still like him.

Also, if you find the Falcons a contentious GG Special. How about my other for the season.....Dolphins.

Think what Parcells did to Dallas his first year there in 2000 or whenever it was. Straight to the playoffs. He's drafted VERY well for Miami.

Re: Early odds:

Yeah I can see the Dolphins knocking off the Pats. :D

I like Buffalo as an outside WC chance, hate the Dolphins chances.

The AFC East has lucked it in this season playing the NFC West. I would expect all AFC East teams other than the Pats to improve their W/L record from last season. Not sure about the Jets.

How many teams are you pumping up (for THIS season) GG??

I've come to the conclusion for which team gets my BIG BLACK TEXTA
write off for the tricky NFC East..

The Washington Redskins.. :thumbsd:

nothing to do with your recent comments about them being 'easily' for the play-offs. Just think they will go thru a 'understanding the Zorn' (off Shotgun approach) with a new guy in charge and their overall team balance is 7-9 win capacity max. Will definately look the goods in games but will suffer the same Foreskin problems of the past.. will suck when the CONTENDERS come to play. (pun intended)

That's half the reason why I believe the J-E-T-S get enough wins to squeeze a WC chance. Play the NFC West and 2-4 start up wins in their own division with a remote shock value upset win vs the Patsies.. not that many will think NE can go 17-0 again?? surely not.. and if they don't a division team can bounce them. ;)

The O-line is very steady and I'll be anticipating their running game to
establish a play-off push.

Re: Early odds:

Just on the NFC West, I reckon the 49ers are in for a mauling this season if they can't win games in their division.

Every year there is a surprise packet. Last year the hopes were high in Detroit but they didn't have the RUNNING game to compliment their airel attack and suffered, besides the Lions D is so-so at best. I'm fully following Martz on this one, think he'll get the best from former #1 pick, Alex Smith and the SF D is no dog shampoo set up. Lots of bubbly moments in the bay with Martz blowing in to perk up the Niners.

ProFootballWeekly don't rate SF.. have them to be 3-13. I agree, JD, the division record will determine how far they do and I've got a hunch they'll
be the surprise packet. Wonder what 'SEN's Born In The USA's SS, has to say about that?

Re: Early odds:

Do I need to remind you where Martz was last year Woodson? ;)

What's the bet Gore is spitting chips by week 4?

No reminder neccessary JD as I already made mention of why he failed. :)

Gore will thrive with the speading of the opposition D. Look for those gaps
and unpredictable play calls by the Martz man.

So I've got raps for the unheralded teams like the NINERS, J-E-T-S and
your mob JD the sexy SAINTS .
