What do you guys think of the Ny Giants odds? I was thinking bout putting 50 on it.

I dont know about that, McNabb, @ Home... I wouldnt want to touch it.

- I like Washington straight out or even +6 (it was going for)

- Pittsburgh to win (Dallas were just bad, Jax werent that good)

- Minnesota over Carolina (a bit risky)

- Green Bay over New Orleans (GB may be as bad as advertising, i'm not sure... Green still rushed for 100 yds)

... that's the non-favourites anyway. some favourable lines also

For a team so reliant on the health of its QB, and the QB having a history of not getting through a season, I reckon I'd be keeping my money in my wallet - I agree that if McNair is healthy all year this is great value.

But I dont think he will be.

from my point of view it was more of a sentimental bet, rather then honestly thinking they would win, i am happy though i am on them :thumbsu:

Fair point. Although, Boller did look towards the end of last season. I agree that without McNair their hopes will be finished.

Re: Quality Betting

I think Vikings over Carolina is a solid bet depending on the odds.

The Carolina offense was horrible without Steve Smith and apparently their Oline had problems protecting Day light come and I wanna Delhomme. Without Dan Morgan I like the Vikings to be able to pound the ball also. Vikings at home.

It's obviously not the safest bet for the week but if you're wanting to take a risk I think this is a good one to lay some cash on.

Gambling on the NFL

Its big business... I had a go at some of the lines this weekend went ok... looks like i'm going 6/8 (inc's pre sunday comments)

St Louis - 3.0 (showed a bit vs Denver who are a much better team than the 49ers)
Baltimore - 11.5 (I know I said no double digit, but this Oakland team just sucks)
Seattle - 7.0 (They are defensively and offensively sound - Arizona isnt defensively)
New England - 5.5 (NE ran the ball really well against a tough run D? last week... Jets have no running game which always worries me and only just got past a very ordinary Tennessee)
Atlanta - 5.5 (Just love Vick and the way they run it, Tampa will bounce back - but not enough for my liking)
San Diego - 11.5 (I look for a similar game to last week, really think Tennesse isnt far ahead of oakland, San Diego will bring it)
Dallas-Washington over 36.5 (Heat is on both offences, too much at stake to be a low scorer - denfeses for both seem overrated also)
NYG-Phili under 41.5 (I see two solid defences and i'm not sure of westbrooks ability to move the chains + he has an injury cloud - McNabb could screw me over though)

Lets use the thread to call out our picks for week 3 (with justified reasons)... my aim is to hit an 8/8 multi this year!!

Re: Gambling on the NFL

Would have been a dead-even day for me, but I hit my 4 leg multi, so hooray!

Hit on:

Giants +3
Saints -2
Seahawks -7
Bengals -10
Bears -8.5

Miss on:

Rams -3
Denver -10.5
Dolphins -6
Bucs +5.5
Panthers +2

Hit on 4 leg multi:

Ravens -12
Colts -13
Chargers -11
Patriots -6

Had 10 on each bet, including the Multi, about 120 up for the day, my final bet being 10 on Drew Bledsoe -19.5 for most passing yards.

Re: Gambling on the NFL

Nice work - those big lines were pretty unreal in week 2! however the league seems very uneven at the moment... titans and raiders are as terrible as it comes, green bay not far behind.

Rams was a killer - Denver dont have any game breakers on offence... I dont see a lot of points from them this year. (ie. line spreads and total pts)

I read the 49ers/Rams game like a book....it was the Phins and Bills game that cost me.

Re: Gambling on the NFL

Yeah, should have seen the St Louis miss coming, but it happens. Was most annoyed with the Dolphins and the Panthers, didn't see Buffalo winning, and Carolina had it in the bag until they imploded in the last quarter. Very happy with the Giants getting her done for me, and obviously landing the multi was nice.

Agreed on the Raiders, i'll be taking the line against them most weeks. They just can't get it done on offence, and their defence has major flaws. I'm going to be careful on the Patriots for the rest of the year, Brady is really struggling without his top recievers, getting it done, but for how long? Any time the Bears line is single figures, i'll probably take it as well, this D doesn't give up much.

Same here... didnt touch the bills game. However I know the 49er play the Rams well at there home, plus 49ers look improved and Rams ordinary. I was reading the Rams form as an improved defence with the stand against Denver... however I now realise denver isnt very explosive on offence.

Looking ahead already I think Eagles will put a beating on 49ers... not sure if I'll touch it though just on the basis Eagles are going to west coast.

Re: Gambling on the NFL

Sportingbet is starting to put out their lines for next week. I really like the look of the Ravens -6 at Cleveland and the Bears -3 at Minnesota.

But alas, it's only Monday, going to wait a bit before I decide.

Just caught that. I had some spare change in my account so I've jumped on before they get pushed out. Where do those lines come from, surely vegas hasnt put them out yet?

Jets +6
Bears -3
Lions -6
Ravens -6
Eagles -6
Falcons -3 50.58

Bears -3
Ravens -6
Falcons -3 7.26

Went 6/8 and doubled my money on centrebet (bet 6s, 7s, 8s/8)

Re: Gambling on the NFL

Brave man who bets on the Lions at -6. They've only scored 1 TD this year, I don't care how bad the Packers are, I'm staying well away from that game.

I'm thinking so far:

Bears -3 over Vikings.
Ravans -6 over Browns.
Cardinals -4.5 over St Louis
Giants +3.5 over Seattle
Eagles -6 over 49ers
Falcons -3 over Saints.

Tempted with the Jets +6 and the Dolphins -11. Might put the Patriots -6.5 in a multi.

Valid point but thats what taking a punt is all about I guess. They showed a lot against Seattle @ Detroit. Kitna hasnt put a foot wrong, you look at his completion %... the receivers they have... the defence isnt as bad as advertised today... Jone's fumbles may have had a lot to do with that. Plus Chicago has an AMAZING defence. Favre ordinary in domes (or everywhere now for that matter, haha)... its a gamble but I like the odds.

Giants and Arizona are equally risky propositions.

I'm not touching that Seattle-Giants game with anything! But its going to be a great match. I look for it to be low scoring, around 35 pts.

Damn. I should've taken my own advice.

Loading Up!

Looks like a few great matches to make some extra cash this week.

Jags -10 vs Texans

Ravens -7 vs Titans (Ravens will be out for blood for McNair, plus even without that the Ravens D vs that mistake ridden offence)

Indy -12 vs Buffalo (McGahee is out - how are they going to keep up with Manning... one thing, you cant stop him!)

Denver -9 vs Oakland (Oakland are just ugly and Denver are capable, will just run and run and run I suspect)

Tipping hints & gaming factors to consider

Like the Bears @ $2 h2h vs a banged up Gints...also NYG haven't beaten Bears at Meadowlands for a long while.

KC should RUN 'Fins into the ground.... or blow them outta the water

Dallas to flip the Cards without much trouble

Oakland Run D is thier only strength... the 13-3 scoreline at Mile High indicates that.

JD is concerned by Hines Ward's impact in the Saint's secondary... just a matter of turnovers will clearly determine the result. Go Steelers!!

Packers & Vikes to play a tight u/42 game...Packers LOST thier game in which they clearly dominated the Bills last week... costly turnovers hurt. (as a Steeler fan, I'm taking that bad medicine nearly every week...sic)

Detroit have the 'hotter QB' of the two teams (vs SF). Beating Atlanta is more of an achievement than holding down a shabby Vikings outfit.

INDY easy. Can't believe -12 start is so low. Should be -21.5. Considering Brett Favre carved the Bills D, I'd say Peyton will do enough in one half.

A surprise shootout could well be on bwtn Eagles & Skins. Eagles ranked #1 Off vs 30th Skins D. Brunell saves his best for Eagles (4-0). Eagles pass rush has drastically dropped off since starting 4-1. Close game I suspect as they have a great rivalry for games decided by less than a TD.

Panthers have a very shoddy 3rd down conversion ratio (29%) and thier D is not scaring teams. Upset looms if Tampa can avoid turnovers.

Wildcard ramification game in the Jungle. Chargers have a tendancy to lose these games although they have the better running game and better D. Cinci need to put up over 24+ pts to stand a chance. Close game over 50pts beckons.

Yeah but I was worried about Galloway last week too. 100yds & 2 TD's later and the Saints still win the game. The worry for the Steelers is that the Saints also got nothing from the running game.

Having said that though, the forecast looks like it will be wet and cold and it certainly won't help us. I would expect the Steelers to rip off a big play or two with either Ward or Washington buring our corners - but hopefully like last week it won't be the difference in the game.

Superbowl Betting

Ok the day is almost upon us - I thought we should discuss some superbowl betting.

Sportingbet.com.au are offering a 20% winners bonus on the first TD scored (as well as a 5% deposit bonus).

http://www.sportingbet.com.au/uipub/sport.aspx?l1id=9&l2id=541113

Indianapolis -7 is up to $2.00 now

First TD scorer
Starting with runners you've got two teams who split the carries. Addai ($6.50)... Rhodes ($16)... Jones ($8)... and Benson ($10). Personally if I touch this i'd be getting a piece of Rhodes and Benson at the longer odds becuase they have an equal if not greater chance of getting the ball within the 10yd line. Addai is not worth touching I dont think.

To look at a few receiving chances. Utecht (quoted as from Chicago which is a worry! - maybe you wouldnt win because Ben Utecht from Chicago wont score a TD, Ben Utecht from Indy will!) is $41... he had the 3rd most receptions this year. But no TDs. You've got Wayne and Harrison... its a big guessing game. Prob would avoid Chicago receivers for 1st TD... Grossman will start slow I'd say.

There are also rushing yard and passing yard... etc lines for the main players. Prob worth a look if you want to analyse it. Player vs Player, etc...

I think we could find a real low risk bet or two in there!!
