When Murphy goaled with about 5 and a half minutes to go, you can see Sloane in the background, wanting to celebrate but still not 100% convinced it was over. I think there’s a bit of shock after a season of unrelenting lows that he was sidelined for a long time and couldn’t do what he wanted to help his mates.
He seemed to deliberately try to remain low-key, well aware that whooping it up at 1-13 would look ridiculous

Might have just been better positioning from the midfield or B Crouch back in, but tonight Was the first time it looked like ROB was in control of his taps and using them to advantage. It will be huge for us if he does that regularly. Definitely means there is no need to spend a high pick on Thilthorpe.

Also loved Nicksy’s presser and the 5 AA interview from Murphy. Good vibes around the club.

Thilthorpe is still an absolute must, will be our version of Joe Daniher (hopefully without the injuries)

Loved these comments about Jones:

I hope so, and that he gets a lot of confidence from tonight. :thumbsu: :)

That first goal he kicked was huge for his confidence. I commented after he marked it that he looked terrified - looked to give it off at first and didn’t look convinced that he had the ability to kick it. Not sure if a teammate got in his ear but once he kicked truly it looked he got a few mental demons out. Hopefully the first step towards being the player we need/want him to be.

just has football nous, even if he is a weakish kick for goal. The evidence for this is his tackling awareness: when one of three oppo players has the ball, and releases a handball to player 2, Mcadam charges at player three who is clearly going to recieive from player 2. He did this more than once and it worked well.
Yes, this. What's coming up is often so obvious from the stands or on TV, but it's no small thing for a player in the thick of it to see it, and back himself in.

I’ve never been a massive Brouch fan but he made an enormous difference to our midfield tonight. Was a touch of class in the middle.

matt also put in a really good game. Although he handballed a lot, he managed to work into space prior to handballing or handball further into space rather than his usual dinky handballs to someone under pressure.

big kudos to the Crouch brothers tonight.

Great - we played like a team and were eager to attack the football

Ugly- I needed only the Hawks Obrien to complete my multi and win $2500

Good - so stoked we won not fussed I missed a big win!!

Just finished watching the delayed coverage, so happy we finally got a win! That will do so much good for this group of players, especially the younger guys. Great reward for Nicks too after a crappy season to date.

ROB and M. Crouch were huge tonight, Brad looked good too in his first game back.

Stengle and Macadam were great up forward, Berg, Fog and Tex all had their moments too, and how good was that goal by Murphy??

Schoenberg is going to be a gun for us in years to come, look out next year once he has another full preseason under his belt.

Was really impressed with our composure at times, especially down back when Hawks were pressing for late goals. It has been common for us this year to give up multiple goals in Red time, but tonight the guys were cool under pressure and managed to avoid any except for that one right on 3 quarter time.

I know our opponents were terrible, but we looked really good tonight and definitely some good signs for the future.

Thing that pleased me most is that the kids weren’t panicking as much tonight, not rushing the first disposal, rather taking their time and picking the best option. This really augers well.

also... we’ve proved that Tex and Fog can work well together with Himmelberg playing further away from goal and a fully functioning midfield.

I think it comes down to that i'm willing to write off a missed set shot if you don't fall into a heap because of it with a young player trying to establish themselves into a best 22 (we'll ignore the shot from 60 m because I thought Elliot was taking the piss having a go from there). Especially in a side that has gone 0-13 as we had up to that point, which probably means there are some demons there.

Himmelberg made up for it and then some with his efforts around the ground. Set shots will certainly need work, as well as Elliot really needing to lock himself in a gym but a game like that certainly shows he has a bright future if he can clean it up as a 2nd/3rd KPF.
I "liked" your long post, commented very positively about it, especially the astute Jones remarks, tagged you in on another positive reference too.
You said Himmelberg was "fantastic". I said, "Yeah, not so much. Good around the ground, strong in the contest, but gotta nail those gettable goals".
You said "OK, not 'fantastic', but very good (with which I agree), but gee you're going on about those missed goals".
No, I'm not. YOU are.
We're both happy about the win and we'd both have Himmelberg in our best players tonight. That shot from 60-out was a giggle, no worries. In fact, no worries in general, ok?

Very good (not in order):
--- I'd forgotten how good it felt to win
--- Nicks' smile
--- Schoenberg
--- McAdam
--- RoB around the ground, intercept marking
--- Himmelberg contest/hard work
Very bad:
--- Himmelberg, kicking, get him a kicking-specialist-Coach ffs.
--- kicking for goal, missing too many gettables, dismal
--- still way too many handballs to blokes in bad positions
--- sad to say, but error-ridden and slow Poholke. Some players have game-and-other-player-awareness (eg Schoenberg, Keays). Poholke does not. Add poor skills to that. Really hope he proves me wrong, but can't see an AFL player there.

Unusual:
Sloane (pretty good game by him) post-game, looked lost, disengaged, maybe shocked?
Didn't look at Nicks when they embraced, barely smiled to Nicks and Kelly. Anybody else notice?
He always talks like that. He actually considers what he's about to say.

Elite:
ROB

Good
Stengle, McAdam, MCrouch, Sholl, Schoenberg, Keays, Laird all very good.

Bad
Poholke. Don't want to destroy him but please never play him again.
Jones did some good things but looks lost and panics at times. Needs to hit the gym as a priority. Has a fairly long way to go but something there to persist with.
Kelly. Usual sh*t. Needs to be traded.
Hartigan needs to be traded if we bring in a better back through trade or draft.
Talia and Brown a bit underwhelming but did their job . Need a bit more.
Himmelberg still looks slow out there. I don't know if he will make it. Please draft McDonald.
BCrouch. Did ok but a bit ineffectual.

Ugly

Wasting opportunities and players not giving first give.
You are a glass half empty type person I'm guessing??
