Cats, similar to the lions in the early-mid 2000s, Crows in the late 90s, North in the mid-late 90s etc, had a brief moment in time when the planets aligned for them and they bagged a few flags. Now, like those others, they are returning to flag-free obscurity.
Those 3 flags are all they have done since 1963. By way of comparison, since they beat us that year, we have 12.

2 wins - 9 losses in the finals since 2012 under Selwood as captain.

I'd like to see Duncan captain. Apparently, he's captain material and I think playing under him would be a pretty enjoyable experience. Seems to read the game well too.

Selwood's been a good lead by example captain, but maybe it could be time for something different.

The recent finals record speaks for itself. Not good enough.
It is the reason you continually hear from the club about fixturing and venues. They know they aren't much chop.
Our fans aren't our spokespersons.

The GFC is all class.

I'm not going to rag Hawthorn over BS.

Don't make up crap.

Trying to construct a new nickname for the mob but can't seem to make it work. Wobble-ong?

Either way, thread is a farce. After next week the only comparison between us and them will be how good we both are at dropping out in straight sets after sustained periods of excellence.

Enjoy the fall guys, it's not that bad down here.

Think it through... lose QF, win semi, lose PF would yield 2 - 10 record.
Geelong would have played the side that steamrolled the Hawks and won the whole thing the next week if Smith had kicked it.

I know Geelong has a good recent record against the Dogs but in that game a loss would have been more likely.

Translation: "I am envious out of my mind and this is the best I can come up with."

Well Roddy and here I was actually thinking it sounds more like, despite all the hawkers success, Geelong is still in your discontented heads.

The Cats post-2011 have been a little Swans-lite under Chris Scott, and seemingly after yet another failed finals series should be questioning his position going forward. Far from the worst coach going around, but questions should be asked if he is the right man to maximise and develop them and outcoach the opponent.

I hear GC need a coach.

Hawkers lol. Just can't help yourselves can you lads.

Plenty of cats fans happy to throw stones at the Hawks when we went out in straight sets last year, and have had plenty to say about our results this year. So only fair I think that you might expect to cop a bit back.
Cats have made it very difficult for themselves with last night's effort.
Unlike 2015 when the Hawks did it the hard way, I am not sure the Cats are up to it.

At the end of the day, if you don't hold up the cup at the end of the year, you may as well have finished where we did. No prizes for 2nd place

Well Romeo....it's like this.
Despite all of your success over the last 10 years, and your awesome home and away record, in one of the best eras of success for your club, your achievements still rank behind those of the HFC over a similar period.
Not being able to go back to back must have really hurt, and a 3peat just seems so far away

Haha bumsy - so past all that stuff but so many hawkers aren't! You swarm any Geelong issue. You guys love us. Admit it.

I refer you to the "Worst Geelong loss you have experienced as a fan" thread on the Geelong board.

I note the overwhelming 61% response to the 2008 Grand Final.
I am sure you were one of the people that voted for 2008

I rest my case

Pretty sure I didn't even bother voting in that silly thread bumsy. I mean really, who needs that going into the finals.
But yep-it would have been 2008 but that's nearly 10 years ago and 2 flags later, so, unlike many hawkers, I have moved on and it only bothers me on an intellectual front these days. Emotionally way over it-you should try it!

Look guys, give up the Hawks v Geelong banter. It's boring. Geelong have squandered a number of opportunities between 2012 and now, but the reality is that their list is poles apart from what they had in 07-11. That team was built for finals and to deliver in them. Geelong 07-09 was comparable to Hawthorn of 13-15. They fluffed 08. Big deal. They got 2011. There isn't much separating them.

As far as Geelong now? Well they can't rely on Selwood, Dangerfield, Hawkins, Mackie & Lonergan anymore. The mid tier group needs to make a stand next week in the semi to salvage something of 2017. The lift has to come from them. Get to a preliminary final with a turnaround in form next week and anything is possible, after all, they've got a very record against Adelaide.

It's pretty clear which team has been the best over the last 11 years.

Top 2 finishes 2007-2017:

Geelong - 8
Hawthorn - 4
Adelaide - 2
Collingwood - 2
Sydney - 2
Fremantle - 1
Port Adelaide - 1
St Kilda - 1
West Coast - 1
8 top 2 finishes, yet how many flags?

And I believe in unicorns

Not sure what us "Hawkers" have to get over. 4 flags in 10 years, incl the sweetener that was 2008, and a 3peat. Life is pretty good if you don't mind.
Most of us "Hawkers" are pretty satisfied for the moment, but taking great joy in seeing your mob drinking your own bath water and then complaining of a stomach ache after.
Plenty of Cats fans throwing stones...so stop trying to claim the moral high ground. If you lot are prepared to dish it out, then be prepared to take it
