Dusty's GF has been great, don't get me wrong. But I think Bachar was a lot better in 2017 and set the tone for them to blow it out. I even think he was better in 2019, but 4 goals (in a 90pt win) will get the nod. It's like SJ winning in 2007, I thought Scarlo was better but we smashed them and the Norm could've been raffled to any player.

I think Dusty should have 2 Norm as it stands, at most. But 3 is amazing and good for him.

2017 was absolutely about the story of Martin and no way should have won the norm.
Like you said 2019 in a rout is a crap shoot and could have gone to 2 or 3 others just as easily (ironically I had Houli BOG that game aswell).
There's no doubt a judging bias towards Martin, sometimes justified, sometimes not.

This current tigers team would’ve beaten cats 2007-11 probably 8/10 times. Game style very challenging. Just choke up the scoring.

LOL.

Either this is a troll post or you're drunk out of your mind.

This current Tigers side would get obliterated by our 2007-2011 side. It wouldn't even be close. The fact that you're even comparing the two sides is an utter joke. If you go through line by line there isn't a single line in which this Richmond side is better.

Ridiculous comparison.

We were a better football team. But how are we going to run the game out?
Football is different in different eras.
Carlton now would smash Hawthorn of the 80's cause of coaching and fitness.
Even a ten year gap is way too long to compare teams now.
This is generally true but the talent dilution caused by expansion means Richmond’s style is much more effective than it would be against the ultra high skill Geelong and Collingwood sides from that era.

Fair enough.

But would you rather - having seen the GFC winning 3 GF's in the last 57 years, or winning 12?

The answer is obvious. It doesn't detract from our support of the GFC, but it does make you wistful, envious.
It doesn't for me. I was more envious of the Bulldogs flag than any of Hawthorns etc.
Just cause of the sheer joy.

It's the enjoyment you feel more than the stats.
Like a rich kid who gets a new Xbox for Xmas doesn't get close to the same enjoyment than a real poor kid does.
The rich kid wants to know why he didn't get the right game.

To all the critics. . .have some pride in our Boyz! Praise them, instead of knocking them!
Good call.
Thought Stanley was very, very good - kept bobbing up, worked really hard, and dominated the ruck.

Gryan looked like himself again, and held up incredibly well to the insane pressure of a grand final.

Blitz tried to take on too much - he can bust a single tackle but could not break through two or three tigers hanging off him. But his 'faults' were based on too much effort.

Harry was typically canny, and held Lynch, an incredible effort in his last game. And Gaz was unbelievably gutsy, I think that injury will tur out to have been pretty bad. Selwood tried his hardest with a broken finger, ditto who had to do the sideline dislocation thing then run back on. All incredibly gutsy.

Duncan was cool, skilled, showing his composure and class and the long term benefit of having played in 2011. Great call by the club then, and I hope he is the next captain.

Simpson courageous, did some good things, and I really hope he comes through that horrific clash without any physical or mental scars.

Menegola was much better than he has been in finals, and if he hadn't argued with the umpire would have had a very good game.

Stewart: composed, ruthless, strong, skilled, and a model of a finals type player. Shows that we need speed and akill, not just bulk, in defence.

Rohan basically took Grimes out of the game. (I wish he had more licence to just attack, instead of being used in a primarily defensive role.)

Kolo is being hammered but he held Martin pretty well for much of the game. He tackled him ... a rarity.

It was brutal out there. Posters who use words like pathetic make me feel sick, for their stupidity, their complete lack of awareness of what was going on out there. If someone were stretchered off any other worksite it would be closed down. These guys have a few minutes to chat then go on with their "game". It happens again; same thing, a shor tbreak while their fellow player is removed from the field, then they go again. Say what you want about skill or composure, but if you think you have the right to bleat about lack of courage in the team you supposedly support, you're a fool.

IF we are back playing footy in Melbourne next year, they will be even more intimidating. Their system and fitness is outstanding, and listening to Whateley interviewing their psychologist, she has made significant changes to that team, most notably Martin. He has gone from brilliant but erratic, to brilliant and ultradependable. They all play with enjoyment, and lack of fear of failure.

Any chance we could recruit someone like her? Seems to work.

Absolutely true. But how are we going to run the game out?
Skills and talent mean nothing unfortunately.
Different eras.

I agree. 2017 he won purely because of the hype that was Dusty. Houli was absolutely better that day.
But he absolutely deserved it last night. And he's been huge in other finals too. I think the debate about who is better Martin or Danger is well and truly put to rest now unfortunately for us.

Good point. I get what you're saying.

I'm moreso alluding to the joy derived from consistent GF success, but I get your reference to the spirit around the Dog's win.

Word on social media is that Bachar Houli tore his calf about the same time Vlasutin and Gaz got injured yet played out the match. Gutsy effort if true.
Houli was the one who said it post game when they were doing the walk around the game.
Didn’t even notice he was sluggish

The way I see Danger vs Dusty is peak Danger was a better player, but Dusty has had a better career.

Nothing wrong with either of those careers too.

That’s entirely the point. He’s nothing like the really good inside mids, and despite spending a lot of time outside the centre bounces is nothing like the elite outside mids either.
Cam Guthrie is an All Australian midfielder, at the same age as Parfitt he was sitting in a back pocket and a lot of people on here thought he wasn’t even fit to that. Parfitt doesn’t have to be a star to be a very good midfielder, Richmond have proved that.

I actually don’t think (other than the interchange cap) there has been a particular great change in the fitness side of the game over the last decade - particularly compared to the prior decade.

Essentially, I don’t think the game changed enough between 2011 and 2017 to be considered different eras.

But they didn’t win back to back. If they were so good why didn’t they win back to back?? Line by line and players names don’t matter. It’s system. Cats didn’t get it done as back to back champions. Unfortunately tigers have it over us.

mental surrender imo being at the ground.

Well that's not unexpected with a gameplan like ours.

Losing a GF is tough but not having watched it live like I normally would I'm not that upset.

08 still hurts and being there whilst it's happening is THE worst. Sorry you had to witness it in the flesh but we've all been there.

You need to take a break man.
