Geelong rorting the system

yeah you did such an amazing job developing a 110kg number 1 draft prospect with pick 41. what an amazing bit of recruiting and developing. 👏

What should we have done instead. NOT gotten 800 goals out of him and 3 flags?

Had 17-18 top 10 picks over a couple of decades and turned it into 1 grand final appearance and got to the point of having to deliberately lose games to try and get ahead?

Well done on your work developing the guy who is currently the best power forward in the game and making the most of him. It’s almost like you could have done with a good key forward in the time since, even allowing for the flag run.

Just sick of nuffies like you, can’t stand them.
Have an ability to think, that’s all I ask.
Lol, I didnt comment on any of the things you listed in your unhinged rant.
All I did was point out you've had the rub of the green in 2/3 of your 'hard half' of the draw which, whilst it might not fit your narrative, is a fact.

if the afl wanted to equalise the comp they would've abolished the f/s rule altogether decades ago. throw in the nga nonsense. And now the top teams (Brisbane, dogs, Collingwood and geelong) are basically just the 4 clubs that have been the most kissed. nothing more, nothing less.
Yep, and Geelong has the most lipstick witness marks.
People in places of influence, unique home ground, dodgy 3rd party deals and the rub of the green to make a certainty of it.

Talk about a welfare club.

No doubt there was a time they had an unbelievable list that was worthy of those 07, 09, 11 flags but to have only jagged 1 since, considering the advantages they get on and off the field, is actually below par, and as a Port supporter I know below par when I see it.

The biggest rort Geelong have in my opinion is excessive conflicts of interest between AFL House and their club (Hocking changing rules etc), 3rd party arrangements (Scott, Smith, Property deals), and most alarmingly the recruitment of players like Bailey Smith.

One minute he is conveniently depressed and snorting coke while traversing Europe, and just happens to lower his draft value enough to go to Geelong and be a Brownlow contender the next year. JUH is the one to watch and if he or Reid nominate Geelong this year or next that is honestly the crux of it. It's fine if these players want their Geelong lifestyle (whatever it is I grew up there and it ain't crash hot), but you should rightfully pay a fair price for the players wanting to go there.

If players are going to manipulate draft value and Geelong can manage to continuously grab these players whilst paying minimal compensation, they are not going anywhere and will sit perched in the Top 4-8 teams into perpetuity.

We’ve won 7 free kick counts and lost 4. Oh wow, it’s a global conspiracy. If we have 3 less against Adelaide suddenly we’ve won 6 and lost 5.

We’re through the looking glass here everybody.

19 years with 13 preliminary finals and we’ve just worked out why. It’s the whistle

Cool story Sister.

What’s well below AFL average, is the 1 flag in 25 years this century. Average is 1 every 18 years
Dees might be slightly behind on average, but the mean is 1. That is if you rank the teams by premiership, then teams 9&10 both have 1.

Mate, you’re on here moaning about how another team’s record is the result of - wait for it - having a venue (other clubs play where, on VR headsets?) and their free kick differential. At some point you’ll just acknowledge that teams win matches because they outplay the opposition.

Might be time to get that w/l ladder out again for all games the last 20 years not played in Geelong and have a look at who's on top if it.

Doesn’t this mean that the guy overseeing the investigation - not doing it - therefore is the one who, if you’re going to make out like he’s doing it, has uncovered this so called ‘heinous cheating’ which in turn suggests it was conducted with integrity? It would then be up to the AFL to determine the punishment wouldn’t it, not the guy doing the investigation.

Detectives don’t determine the sentence for someone found guilty of a crime

Yeah, expose it now with no real penalty rather than in a couple of years when an actual auditor goes through the books and the penalty is far harsher.

Why was it so bleeding obvious to the casual observer that Geelong was a "Players Destination" due to fraud but the AFL for all these years saw nothing ? no integrity and Geelong need to be punished like Essendon was for cheating. I say strip them of their flags in the last 20 years and premiership points this year, along with draft penalties.

Nothing to do with the guy overseeing everything at the AFL being a Geelong man, Im sure.

Our record just since 2020 - which includes a season in which we actually MISSED the finals, AWAY from Kardinia Park, is 46-25.

So we are winning at a fraction under 66 per cent even if we didn’t play ANY games at KP. Yeah some of those matches were neutral in 2020. Who cares.

We are winning in the last 5 and a half seasons, at a rate, NOT AT KARDINIA PARK, that would equate to around 14.5 wins per home and away season.

For perspective, last year’s premiers had…. 14.5 wins in their home and away season in finishing fifth.

But yeah, we, um, we just scrape by because we have a home ground.

But don’t take the last 5 years’ word for it. Since 2011 - I generously DIDNT include the 07-11 years - we’ve won at 61 per cent in total away from Kardinia Park. So across a 15 season span, we have won at a percentage that averages out to, again, 14 wins per 23 game season.

So if we were maintaining that same win rate away from KP, it seems we would be ‘only making the finals’ because of whatever reasons we make them aside from our home ground advantage. So umpires, basically have a lot to answer for, it seems.

Now, just for some perspective on where our 61 per cent record since 2011 sits, and our 64 per cent record since the start of 2020 sits:

There are obviously a number of teams we don’t have to worry about for the sake of this argument. The Suns for example have never played finals so we can forget about them:

The Pies have been a good, solid team across that duration, they’ve won a flag, regularly competed, travel well etc.

The Pies win at 57 per cent over the last 15 seasons away from the MCG. It’s the same percentage since 2020.

Sydney?
Great travelling side. They go mighty close on the back of a couple of periods where they travelled incredibly well, particularly the 2012-2015 era.

But unfortunately they come up about half a per cent short.

Let’s be honest, over that period no one else is in the conversation.

The Hawks have had too many down years, the eagles last four years have ruined it for them, the Tigers were off the radar before and after their summit, the giants were starting out for the first part of it. Port would be the next closest.

So yeah

113 wins and 3 draws out of 185 home and away games away from KP. Gifted to us through being….. not held at KP. Or something like that.

Phat with another thesis 😄

As Jeremy Usbourne once said in Peep Show, when the going gets tough, you need to roll out the big potatoes.
🥔

Only too happy to issue the bi-monthly reminder that if we didn’t have a home ground we’d still be finishing fifth every season on average until the focus switches to the next excuse as to why we continually find ourselves somewhere in the finals mix

I knew decades ago that Geelong would use every means it could to get players extra "Wink Wink" money - Whiskers anyone?

No integrity at all and willing to bribe people off who get in their way which is even worse than the graft itself.

would've won an extra won if the afl didn't strip us of Mac Andrew. just shows just how important these gifts can be.

Yeah when we get back the 8 years of Ablett Jr we missed out on, come talk to us.
Not sure when this extra flag of yours would have happened because you haven’t been within a bull’s roar of winning one since Andrew debuted. He played a couple of games in 2023 when you bombed out in straight sets and talented as he may be he wasn’t going to help you avoid the same fate a year later.

and then filter and scale by father/sons on the list. Geelong would be bottom 4. bottom 6 at a stretch.

Hahahahaha sure we would.

From 2011 onwards we had Hawkins, Scarlett for 1 season, Ablett for 3 and Jed Bews who was acquired under the same rules as Jack Viney.

You are the kid who sits in the back of the car on the way home from Saturday sport crying to his parents that he lost and simply has never ever learned to accept it and schadenfreude though it may be, I do get a kick out of seeing it in action first hand

The longer this goes, the more Tom Hawkins comes across as Wayne Carey
