How come none of the track and field athletes, swimmers etc. are pulling out because of the Zika virus?
It's a bigger deal for those sports, for many golfers/tennis players the reward simply doesn't outweigh the risk.

Milos roanic has pulled out from the Olympics. He is worried about the Zika virus
i bet it has nothing to do with the fact that the Toronto Masters are roughly the same time.

i wish athletes would stop using this cop out excuse.

Haelp is out of Rio as well for the same reason. (Zika, not Toronto)

Now Berdych has pulled out of the Olympics because of the Zika virus.....

And Hewitt won't be going to the Olympics, personal reasons...

The reason proffered is "personal reasons", but the timing is curious because Hewitt had been desperate to earn a wildcard entry to play doubles following the withdrawals of Kyrgios and Bernard Tomic.

Hewitt was weighing up the prospect of partnering with John Peers — who he was forced to play alongside in the Davis Cup loss to the US at Kooyong in March — but the idea has been torpedoed.

Under messy tennis quota rules at the Olympics, players ranked in the top 10 can partner with any other player within the top 1000.

Because Peers has recently dropped seven spots to 17th in the ATP's doubles world rankings, it means Tennis Australia had no choice but to opt for Chris Guccione.

Also according to our media, because Raonic has withdrawn, Jordan Thompson has had a last-minute call-up to be the 3rd Aussie in the Mens Singles.

However, I've seen no mention of this on Thompson's twitter feed or that of Tennis Australia's. So maybe we'll hold on that until we get further confirmation.

Hewitt was never in the team anyway  Does this mean he is not going in his coach/manager capacity?

Edit: Have now read the article in full. Yes it relates to his role as coach.

All the stuff above re Hewitt pulling out of the Olympic games etc. has been confirmed, heard Wally Masur interviewed about it on the radio this morning, Mark Draper will be the coach. He also mentioned that Kokkinakis is still under an injury cloud and struggling to get fit in time. Thompson has been added to the team as he now gets in on ranking.

Great day for Croatia with old-man Karlovic winning in Newport and their Davis Cup Team coming back from 0-2 to win the tie 3-2 against USA after Cilic/Dodig beat Brian/Brian in the doubles and then in the reverse singles Cilic and Coric beat Isner and Sock respectively.

Bryan brothers are just about finished you'd think. Bit strange for me to think about men's doubles without them to be honest.

As the leading mens doubles players? Sure, but I'll think they'll be around for a few more years. They were were this year's French Open finalists and winners @ Monte Carlo. Currently #6 in the world.

Yep they are definitely owed gratitude in more ways than one.

You can actually vote for what surface you want on the TA Twitter account.

I voted for hard court but I agree it will be on grass. Just sick of it being on grass to suit players like Sam 'I can't win a match' Groth and Tomic the tank engine, and guys like Millman being ruled out because he is supposedly no good on grass.

We should beat Slovakia especially if both Tomic and Nick play

After the last debacle I wouldn't be surprised if neither of them end up playing. Hopefully Kokkinakis might be available by then too.
