I know he is linked to Port outside top 40 - but I wouldn't mind getting Jesse Motlop tbh or at least another forward who can make something out of nothing especially with Eddie here, we get Stengle but what is the harm in getting another to learn from both Eddie and potentially Tyson? Maybe it is just cause I am a sucker for Motlop type players but feel we need at least another developing below Stengle (I know we have Evans but reckon he'll play more of a target small forward role)

My personal opinion is that Geelong have been crying out for a dominant ruckman for a long time. Ottens was recruited to the club and so was Barnes. King was probably our best developed ruckman in the last 30 years. If Conway is considered the best ruckman in the draft pool and he is a local, I reckon we will pick him. I know the quote from the club is all about midfielders but they could fill the other spots with them.

22 - Conway
30, 32 and 34 mids.

Conway isnt good enough to be taken at pick 22 for mine, would hope hed only be getting considered at 32 or 34.

Knightmare has us taking Conway, Alleer, Sheldrick and Lord.

Ones own opinion always kicks in. Knightmare has his too. Would we take Conway with our first pick? It would certainly indicate that we have changed our thinking. ... after bringing in Ceglar..to then draft a ruck with our first pick. It would sort be putting a tack in the wall for a painting with a sledge hammer... but if we went that way so be it.

Just a guess.. and who knows..what the club are thinking really... but I would think they would want pick someone that has a chance of playing by 2023. If it fell the way he has painted.. I think these two would be given strong consideration. .. Howes can play a 3rd tall forward but has the ability to cover ground and Taylor sort of reminds me of Merrit.

Once we get into the 30's good luck picking the way we will go.



26. Hawthorn - Blake Howes
Height, Weight: 190cm, 79kg
Profile: An athletic utility with the positional range to play forward, back or on a wing, Howes is a high leaping and strong marking prospect. Possessing good speed and agility, Howes at this stage is most accustomed to playing across half-forward but could just as easily develop across half-back given his marking gifts and athletic profile.

28. Richmond - Zac Taylor
Height, Weight: 180cm, 74kg
Profile: With one of the strongest closes to the NAB League season, Taylor showed he's one of the most productive and complete midfielders in this draft. Ending his NAB League campaign with 37 disposals, 22 contested possessions and 11 clearances in a 10-point win against Murray, Taylor is a precise and damaging kick, speedy and evasive with ball in hand and has a great inside/outside balance to his game.

Why I do not disagree about the crying ... do we draft him after bring in Ceglar? Id consider him but only if he fell to our later picks to be honest.

Only way I see it happening, is if Neale has already given an indication he wants to go home (no more WA players if that's the case!) Otherwise, I could see us doing it with one of our picks in the 30's - but not with 22 (24)

Based on the Phantoms, here are the higher-rated MIDs most likely to slip to our pick.

Josh Sinn (VM) - DEF/MID - 186cm, 72kg - Phantom range 7-20+
A co-captain of the Dragons in the NAB League this year, Sinn is a classy and versatile player who also served as captain of Vic Metro’s under-16 side in 2019. He loves to run and carry the football and break the lines either playing on a wing or off half-back. His biggest weapon is a damaging left-foot boot, while he also possesses good speed and an impressive ability to read the play and intercept when playing behind the ball. Injuries have made for an interrupted year for a player who was touted as a top-five prospect entering the season. He missed the AFL Academy game against Geelong’s VFL team in April with a hamstring strain and suffered an ankle injury in the final quarter of Vic Metro’s Challenge Match against Vic Country in June. However, recruiters still know what he’s capable of as one of the classiest players in the draft.

Tyler Sonsie (VM) - MID - 181cm, 76kg - Phantom range 5-20+
A smooth mover with excellent foot skills, Sonsie is a player who runs hard to break the lines and finds plenty of the footy. Well exposed in 2019, he impressed during the under-16 national championships for Vic Metro and played six NAB League games for the Ranges including the Grand Final loss to Oakleigh Chargers. However, Sonsie has further stepped up his game this year, starring in the opening rounds of the NAB League season before earning a VFL opportunity with Box Hill. His debut VFL appearance against Werribee in Round 4 was stunning, with Sonsie logging 24 disposals, six clearances and two goals. The AFL Academy member also played in April’s clash against Geelong’s VFL team but was relatively quiet in that match. He missed Vic Metro’s Challenge Match against Vic Country in July with a knee injury, but is still viewed as a likely top-10 pick.

Josh Goater (VM) - MID - 190cm, 79kg - Phantom range 9-20+
An explosive wingman or halfback, Goater has great athletic abilities and is a serious marking talent in the air. He has also developed his inside game this year and shown an ability to have a serious impact at stoppages as a big-bodied player. Goater worked his way into the NAB League season nicely, finishing with a big last three games. He also starred for Vic Metro in its Challenge Match against Vic Country in July, logging 23 disposals, five marks and eight clearances. Goater made his senior Ballarat Football League debut for Sunbury in April, kicking two goals, and finished the year having played three senior matches for the club on top of his Cannons duties. Goater’s enormous leap has also been well highlighted, especially after he took a huge hanger against the Western Jets in Round 1 of the NAB League. During pre-season testing, Goater finished equal-first in the vertical jump (80cm), equal-first in the running vertical jump (96cm) and sixth in the 20m sprint (2.92sec). It seems the sky is the limit for this talented player.

Darcy Wilmot (VM) - MID - 182cm, 70kg - Phantom range 14-22
The youngest player in this year’s draft pool, Wilmot does not turn 18 until New Year’s Eve. But like the fireworks that go off on his birthday, Wilmot has been a very bright spark this year. He has primarily played across halfback or on a wing, but has also shown his versatility to play half-forward or through the midfield. A strong team-oriented player, he will fill any role that needs filling without hassle. While his disposal numbers generally aren’t particularly high, Wilmot impacts with his run and carry out of defence and rarely wastes the football. He had a kicking efficiency of 75 per cent in the NAB League this season and finished third in the agility test (7.88sec) during pre-season testing. Wilmot is also a natural leader and captained Vic Metro in one of its trial matches in June. He is generally one of the loudest voices out on the field, always giving direction and encouragement to teammates.

Campbell Chesser (VC) - DEF/MID - 186cm, 83kg - Phantom range 13-24
An athletic rebounding defender or wingman, Chesser is considered to be one of the brightest prospects in this year’s draft pool. The captain of Vic Country’s under-16 side in 2019 and a former national level athletics ace, Chesser has a good mix of speed and endurance as well as good skills. Hailing from Albury, Chesser is boarding at Melbourne Grammar this year to complete his Year 12 studies, while playing for the Dragons in the NAB League. Chesser tore the meniscus in his knee in his second game of the season for the Dragons, which put him on the sidelines for the AFL Academy game against Geelong’s VFL team in April and kept him off the track while he was supposed to be training at Hawthorn. But recruiters are well aware of his talent, as a player that loves to run and carry and has plenty of flair with his ball use.

Sam Butler (VC) - FWD/MID - 184cm, 73kg - Phantom range 19-38
The younger brother of St Kilda forward and Richmond premiership player Dan Butler, the Rebels player is viewed as more advanced than his brother at the same age. A small to medium sized forward, he can also have a run onball and impact games with great speed and sound skills. Like his brother, he also loves the tackling and pressure side of the game. Butler missed some games with a chest injury in the middle part of the season but shone brightly in most NAB League games he did play this year, including a 27-disposal, five-clearance, seven-tackle and two-goal performance against Gippsland Power in Round 8. He is a player that AFL clubs have been keeping close tabs on throughout the year and is seen as someone who has all the traits to be able to step up to the top level.
