We currently have five senior list spots but one will be taken by Stengle when he's signed as a delisted free agent.

We actually have 6 (kreuger jenkins jarvis taheny fort clark) plus constable will be 7 minus stengle will be 6. Less than that depends if we elevate atkins or close (welld said we were still debating whether to do that) and whether we take any dfas.

Only an extra 112 points for the Pies. I don't really know how many extra points these clubs want, but I think anything around or under 100 points seems like it won't make much of a difference to them.

I reckon 250-300 pts is about what they want.

By my count;

Regular List Out: Clark(6), Jarvis(10), Jenkins(11), Kreuger(15), Constable(18), Fort(28), Taheny(41)
Regular List Ins: Ceglar, Stengle, picks 22, 30, 32, 34, 50(which should bump to 45)
Rookie List Out: Brownless(20), Henderson(25), Okunbor(43) CatB
Rookie List Ins: Rookie picks 15, 33 Cat B rookie pickup

My apologies! I was still counting Constable on the senior list.

If you want someone who can open games up by foot chesser or taylor would be good targets as would brown. I wouldnt call knevitt a poor kick though just not as laser like as those guys. Long has missed a lot of footy and i like his scope for improvement i see a big ceiling in him although i agree we need kicking skills as a team.
Every time I see Taylor's kicking and decision making as a strength, I pray we can nab him. Watching Geelong kick inside 50 over the last two years has caused my hairline to recede at an increasing rate.

I would be shocked if you could move contracted players to the rookie list.

You absolutely can you just have to risk another club taking them as a dfa first and if no one does and you rookie them the difference in $between their senior deal and rookie wage has to come out of your cap. In CCs case hes not contracted so that doesnt apply we just can rookie him in the rookie draft if no one takes him as a dfa.

I do really like him..one of the reasons i wanted 22 for clark is i feel we are more likely to get him there than at pick 30.

Do we have enough faith in Shannon Neale to come on as a ruckman to completely rule out drafting Toby Conway?

Both the best touted ruck in this draft and a Geelong Falcons boy. Would be hitting his prime just as Stanley would be looking to retire.

Its riskty to put all your hopes in just one player... especially a WA player who has not signed an extension ...

We have Tsap but someone like Conway we be the legit option or ruck first player we have not draft for a long time. The type that pays you back years down the track...

Having said that...there are only so many spots available for talls.... and we may wait till next years draft.

Next year's draft is supposed to be very strong for talls. I'd rather we wait.

It's five because we've added Ceglar.

Ah yes my mistake forgot him. So assuming stengle cancels CC out we have 5 ND slots unless we take any other dfas or promote rookies.

OK. It seems to defeat the purpose of allowing a club to move a contracted player on to the rookie list, but then requiring them to be delisted with a risk that another club takes them. I was looking at a way of getting say Schlensog/Brandner as DFAs without reducing spots for our 5 draft picks.

I hope we can trade our 22 for a first next year... We will probably need it, as there will probably be a lot of players retiring/delisted..

I really really hope we go after Giliiet who played for Grovedale & Falcons... as after Hawkins we really need a youth product to do his apprenticeship. As there is no guarantee if Esava will make it..

A lot of information I don't have.

How good is Tsap. Have we offered Neale an extension. Is he interested in signing it.

Id admit that adding Conway would make us tall heavy compared to what we traditionally have run at ... personally Im not averse to that but some may be. If we are going to add another next year then adding someone for a years development may be beneficial but there may be better talent next year ?

Do we just go with who we have got ..with the plan we will have to trade in someone anyway? One can draft players and for what ever reason it doesn't work out.

What we really lack is the player who has been in the system, that is 22-23 and pushing for the role. The Meek type . Now we have Stanley and Ceglar... its like we have decided to give our rucks two more years of development.

The guts of it is we probably look at other needs first.

My concern if we draft Conway is we’d have him, Neale, Tsapatolis and Ceglar/Stanley all in the 2nds at any one time, maybe even Esava too. Less than ideal for development.

Yep its something we would have to cope with. Its not such a problem in the first couple of years when they are putting in extra time to build up their bodies. Its why so many clubs went to the "pinch another clubs development" model..

Talking about mids, I think we need to look at picking 3 guys with a range of “styles” from inside, to fast to elite users. If you are going to allocate them into groups I’d go -

Inside/tall - Knevitt, Long - (take one of the two).

Inside/outside mix - MacDonald, Taylor, Banks

Outside - Chesser

Quick - Chesser, MacDonald, Knevitt, Banks

Skill - Taylor

That’s how I roughly categorise them.

I may be wrong, but this doesn't sound like Charlie will be back, even as a rookie:

“We have had open dialogue with Charlie over the past two years in regards to him looking for greater opportunity at another club,” Geelong’s general manager of football Simon Lloyd said.

“We believe Charlie is a good player, but we have a number of players that play a similar role. We are hoping that allowing Charlie to become a free agent may help him find a new club. We would like to thank Charlie for his significant contribution on and off the field. He has been a strong leader, he is a quality person and has been an exceptional clubman over time at Geelong.”

I respectfully disagree. Clubs want well-rounded MIDs these days, i.e. there's no use being tall if you can't mark, there's no use being outside if you can't kick, etc. I'd want us to pick the most complete MIDs. That's why I'm so keen on Taylor with his inside/outside mix and elite kick.
