And he has barely missed a game since he debuted. Its a result of having an era when he has played so many finals..so probably never again

Been thinking on your post even more. Another factor I feel is SalCap. It would not hurt to only add draft contracts for mids..especially since we have those mids that will be hunting for games.Word I've heard is that Selwood wants one more year. I don't think we worry about midfield FA until the end of next year. Get games into Narkle, Holmes, Clark and hopefully Stephens next year.

Not bad for a guy who would not last due to his knee.

100% agree on the list numbers crush and the number of kids that won't get games.Been thinking on your post even more. Another factor I feel is SalCap. It would not hurt to only add draft contracts for mids..especially since we have those mids that will be hunting for games.
The more this draft seems affected by the lack of form, and the fact that its a mid draft with limited talls, I wonder if we minimise our picks in the draft. We elevate Atkins, that leaves two picks.
Obviously trades can affect it, but unless its a trade for a tall of need then having a quite year , as you say is the way to go. Certainly unless we lose an older player and we replace him with a younger best22 player.
If we lose Constable, Jenkins, Narkle, Stanley...perhaps Tarheny or Jarvis. Its still doesnt create a spot in our best22 for a mid.
I feel your point on the players is a good one. If Clark is still here he will be crying out for a chance. Holmes a year older probably gets nursed along but we have done it before. His size and running ability will see him get chances... and Stephens simply needs to do something next year. He must stay fit and break in a confirm his future. And we have Simpson wanting a spot and I suspect we will continue to annoy people by selecting ZacG.
So as much as some pundits say we must hit the draft, until we clear a road block in the best22, it probably on will create churn. We dont really need numbers we need quality.
We look at a club that needs points and either get earlier this year or next year. For example if Sam Darcy is the best tall in the draft..how early does someone call his name.. A top10 bid will put them into deficit. Do they wear that or trade their r1 for more points. Maybe they hold and hope no one calls his name till after their R1 but the draft having a drought of talls , a 204cm kid will probably get a bid, especially after the bargains they have had recently.
If the Dogs feel they will need points, depending on how early the bid is we could move up to a late R1 and keep one R2 or perhaps trade all three, and get a Fr2.
Maybe we add another kid of around Holmes standard, have a late pick , elevate Atkins and do we keep a spot open so next year we have a mid year draft to look at the kids that develop.

I think that's already playing out with talls this year. Tsap at the jets, Neale back in WA. That's Fort and Jenkins probably gone right there though I'd want to find a way to keep Fort, like giving Tsapatolis a year as a kpd.
If this is such a good midfield draft then there's every chance a Brandon Parfitt or Shai Bolton could be had at the 2x 2nds we traded in. And those types wouldn't be expected to crack the b22 until 2023 anyway. We have to draft 2 anyway. Trade every other pick into next year and only take future picks for anyone wanting a trade out maybe unless it's a significant pick upgrade.
And he'll become our first 350 game player.Word I've heard is that Selwood wants one more year. I don't think we worry about midfield FA until the end of next year. Get games into Narkle, Holmes, Clark and hopefully Stephens next year.

Just reading through the post about this being a record team in terms of 30+ players and thinking of what the team will look like without them.
Obviously not all going next year but it would be good to see who the replacements are
Hawkins - Ratugolea
Rohan - Jarvis
Smith - Holmes
Blicavs - DeKoning
Tuohy- Clark
Henderson - Kreuger
Duncan - Narkle
Selwood- Constable
Higgins - Evans
Dangerfield- Cooper-Stephens
Will definitely need to see some of these players cementing their spot this year or next and bring in some trades to compliment
That being said I only see Higgins as a big chance to go end of year
2016 draft.
Pick 26: Brandan Parfitt
Pick 40: Tom Stewart
Pick 43: Esava Ratugolea
Pick 60: Quinton Narkle
Rookie Pick 16: Jack Henry
Cat B Rookie: Mark O'Connor
We nailed that given the picks we had.
I agree with that although if we are playing sav in the ruck given his poor ruck technique thats clearly a best 22 spot that needs filling-i expect us to trade for an established ruck.
And Zach Guthrie (who is a perfectly fine backup in 2021) and Sam Simpson in the rookie draft too2016 draft.

Uh and Timm House and Ryan Abbott but 8/10 ain't bad
Missed Jamaine Jones on the list - make it 8/11 then
I'm just counting players still on the list. Also don't want to be misquoted saying 9/11 ain't badJJ at 48 is a good pick.
If we can not get Darcy maybe go after Ceglar won't cost much if we have no money
I didn't mention Zac for a reason, he's no good. And Zach Guthrie (who is a perfectly fine backup in 2021) and Sam Simpson in the rookie draft too

He will be in the best ruckman in 2-3 years.... he is exactly what we need... But how much will Darcy be worth in a trade at the end of the year....Darcy with another 15 disposals, 30 hit-outs & 4+ clearance performance for Fremantle.

My guess. A 1st round pick and a future 2nd round pick and they swap us a pick back![]()
