I remember a few years ago we were linked to Haynes, which none of us believed.

Would we be interested in taking him and 3/4 of his salary and pick 15
We give up a fr2 or 3

Looking forward to how the footy world with contracts and trade is starting to evolve

It seems GWS are not unhappy to keep him ..even on his money..so would they give us that deal? Even if we took 90% of the dollars. Its funny how these thing all connect. If they get Himmelberg from SA .. then who knows maybe some sort of deal would be achievable if they needs some cap room.

The elephant or elephants in the room though are
1. How bad his relationships at the Dogs are.
2. His off field issues and relatively poor form.

I think his value has dropped. Bulldogs fans would not share the view. I would not entertain trading Holmes for anybody. He is a keeper.
Not to mention he can walk next year as a Free Agent!!!

edit: out of contract not Free Agent!!!

Whacky ...? I speculated what the Dogs might think is reasonable.... as a previous post asked. Not what we would do.

I dislike being misrepresented... as you disliked being denigrated.
The notion that I've misrepresented you in wacky. But yeah whatever ..... taken out of context a tad but we move on.

I don't mind being denigrated. I probably deserve it most of the time. Just as well I don't have feelings.

Nah, he's too young for free agency. He'll only be 24 next year.

This is just Tim Kelly 2.0. Either get the deal done this year because you know he's leaving anyway, or roll the dice and depending on form get more or less for him next year.

I think the there is some bargains to be had if we can be patient and wait for next year.
It's the same every year TBH.
Not sure if next year will be 15+ deep in quality.
Ports pick will be around 17-18
Our pick will be either 7 or 14
Tigers pick will be around the 10-12 pick.
Walking in with 10-12-17 will only go towards acquiring the likes of Bailey Smith, Archie Perkins, Ben King, Ben Keays, Hugh McCluggage, Lachie Schultz, Josh Battle, Liam Duggan whom are coming out of contract the end of 2024.
Like what happened with the Jeremy Cameron saga.
*Those bolded we have had links to in the past and present so wouldn't surprise me if we had them in our sights going forward to refurbish the side.

D'Ambrosia could furnish in to a good back-half distributor - left-footer from memory.

Bianco is another - gets the ball and a is a good kick but not the quickest on the park.

Every team needs good role players.

I've seen every game Bianco has played for the Pies, he doesn't have it IMO. Too slow and small with not enough tricks to make up for his deficiencies.

D'Ambrosio has requested a trade to the Hawks but I would have been interested otherwise.

Flynn has offers from Eagles and Dees so one less ruck option out there.

Strengthens my own personal view that we aren’t chasing a ruckman this trade period. Not many around

Surely there’s not a 3rd ruckman dumb enough to go to Melbourne after the last 2

Not interested. He’s supposed to be on >1.1mil next year.

The difference with bowes is we think he can become a solid contributor in his own right for years to come. I don’t think we’re in the position to consider paying that kind money to take on 31yo role player with our list demographic.

Still nothing definitive in terms of a public comment by the player. There's been speculation that "Smith said this and Smith said that" but no specific public comment I've seen that's come straight from the players mouth. The only comment is from Paul Connors who said "he expected Smith to be at the Bulldogs in 2024" .......coming from a player manager, that has about as much substance as invisible toilet paper.

If the media are sniffing around and the player has not yet come out with a definitive "I'm staying" then I think there's clearly a chance a deal gets done this year. And we won't hear boo until right at the end of trade period where his manager comes out and says "his player has had a rethink and thinks that a change of environment would be the best thing for his mental health" ..... blah blah blah.

I think even the most bullish Bulldogs fans accepts that Smith is more than likely gone the year after, so why not take a better deal now whilst in contract and just move on. No one wants a bloke playing at the club is he's not completely on board ......and based on the speculation about Smith's relationship with the coach, and a few other snippets about being played out of position, I think bailey Smith is far from on board at the kennel.

And let's not forget Bevo's stunt where he said Smith was "unwell" and couldn't play against Geelong. Too easy to join the dots I reckon and we've seen it with player trades so many times previously.

Smoke and fire me thinks.

Massimo has a sub par defensive game.
Brad has highlighted it to him and he never improved enough to regain his spot.
Up until a week or two ago. No contract was offered. Tells us enough i reckon.

Bianco? Mmm... just a Caleb Daniel clone without the high level kicking.
Pretty good VFL player. AFL ? Not sure.

Todd Goldstein has chosen a move to Essendon as an unrestricted free agent, The Age’s Michael Gleeson reports.

Goldstein is out of contract at North Melbourne, where he has played 315 games. The Bombers and Collingwood were the two front runners for Goldstein’s services, with the 35-year-old seemingly settling on the former.

How bizarre - why doesn't he go to the Pies and try to chase a flag?

Not interested, even if we get a first rounder out of it ?

Essendon probably offering more $$$.

Sounds like haynes is happy to stay i think he probably wants to retire a 1 club player.

Money. Essendon are offering him more money and he has lots of kids to support.

Anyone that goes to melb as a ruck has no ambition to play afl footy they just want cash.

How would we fill the (5) open list spots then with effectively 1 draft pick this year? Would have to promote Dempsey to satisfy minimum two picks in the draft, and would need to find some FAs (including delisted ones) to plug some of the other spots, and leave a couple open.

The overpayment for pick 25 from Brisbane last year is starting to bite. I hope the Lions return the favour at some point.

All our picks in the 100s will come in to the 50s/60s and you could use 3 or 4 of them (like we did in 2015) and take a kid or two plus a couple of mature guys (mannagh and vdh for example).

There is more of an age gap with Flynn though.
Gawn more likely to be injured as he gets older.
If I was Flynn I think Geelong would be a reasonable destination, I would at least be adjung Jezza his opinion on my prospects of playing if I move to Geelong.

Seems that Flynn doesn't look that likely to get a regular game anywhere in the AFL at this point, unless injuries intervene. So following the money probably does seem like a reasonable option.
