PMBanger's latest observations on George Stevens are less than encouraging. Unless he startles us all at the Combine i'd want us to be looking elsewhere.

As for Oliver and Smith - forget it, we haven't got the capital.

Interesting to read Barlow's comments on Mannaghe and Clohessy - would either of those still be on the board at our second (Sav) pick?

No I don't think so. Clubs have a fair idea what the landscape looks like a fair way out from trade week. If you're looking at a contracted player I think it's even more clear cut.

Keep in mind too that with Bailey Smith being managed by Paul Connors, I think that makes it even more clear cut. Connors speaks highly of his dealings with Geelong and if he's told them no deal this year, then I think Geelong would accept that as gospel and focus elsewhere.

If Duursma is available, what would people prefer between him and a pick in the 25-30 range for Esava?

I've got some reservations about Duursma, but I think he's got a better chance of playing 100 games for us than someone drafted in that range, and is a good age for our list, so I'd be inclined to try and include him in discussions.

Why does the AFL make draft week so long - it's taking the piss. Force clubs to get serious and do it over 3 days maximum. If you can't organise s**t in that time then move on.

Why on earth would Dees put up Oliver for a trade it would be like us trading danger during his prime. It's been said but Dees know something they're not sharing with the rest of us, attitude issue or body perhaps a combination of both has Dees spooked with his contract length?

Oliver isn't like peak Danger, the Dees equivalent is Petracca which is why theres no chance they trade him.

But there must be something big going on because Oliver instantly makes every midfield in the league better. How bad do relationships or attitude have to be for you to contemplate trading someone just after they signed a massive deal.

Dursma/Lord are a safer bet than Bailey Smith who may or may not get his act together.

Duursma hasn't shown a lot at AFL level, Lord has had one big final and not much else. Smith has a far better track rate than those two, I don't think its safe to call any of the players in that list a safe bet but Smith has runs on the board more consistently.

Extended content = advertising/eyes on the product = money/engagement.

They could knock out trade week from a Friday to a Monday but theres no money in that. Need all the podcasts, radio shows with all their/the AFL sponsors constantly talking shit to keep people engaged because a lot of people drop off the AFL after the GF until late preseason when the matches start.

Bit of a stretch. He's very good and I'd take him at 7 but he is very handball happy and not the quickest off the mark though combine numbers might mock me later on that.

He is cover for Jack Henry, and potentially Stewart as the Intercept marker. But yes, he is just break glass in total emergency KPD. We will need a KPD in the draft.

It's not a roaring engine room. Guthrie is 31 and hasn't played for a year. Danger is creaking. The ruck situation is Stanley past his best, and a very green Conway. Apart from Atkins, all the other options are at the start or the end of their careers.

Danger creaked to 12 Brownlow votes still.

Holmes and Bruhn could easily break out. It's too early to call it on Bowes. Parfitt had a rough year but who knows. Atkins second half of the season was very strong. Blicavs was a late starter. Guthrie is fresh and ready to go.

No to Wines and Duursma, but I can see the benefit of bringing in a couple of fresh faces as "role players" like O'Brien and Harmes on peanuts. As a club we've done that well in the past, and if you look at the Pies GF side they had a few blokes who command little respect outside the walls of Collingwood, but clearly play a defined role and contributed to a premiership.

I don't think either of those improve what we got though. O'Brien isn't a genuine KPD size so no help if SDK goes down. Only backup for for J Henry or Kolo.

We need to bolster the midfield with A grade or Elite talent . Harmes is a C grader at best, I would rather who we get with pick 7.

We have plenty of role players like Atkins or MOC that rotate through the middle. Need the actual meat here, not the potatoes.
