Just after clarification, the Dogs traded their future first to Gold Coast and their future third to Melbourne. I didn't think you could do that.

I reckon them trading up for a key forward considering they have Naughton, JUH, Darcy and likely Croft makes much less sense.

Watson as a small half forward makes more sense. Duursma or McKercher make more sense as dual position. Someone who be a rebounding half back maybe. They take Sanders he's gonna be in the 2s for years.

We’d be demanding their FF. That would be the only trade we’d entertain imo.

There's more than just talls available. I just don't see Sanders having a second position and don't see a spot for him in the seniors in the next 3 years.

The top five (excl. GC) is rumoured to now be:

1. WCE - Reid
2. NTH - McKercher
3. NTH - Duursma
4. HAW - Watson
5. WBD - Sanders

With GWS strongly linked to O'Sullivan at pick 7. That leaves just MEL (pick 6) to take either Curtin or Caddy.

I don't know much about the individual draftees other than what I have read. However, I can't see North passing on Sanders after they made a fuss about him being in their academy. If they don't pick him with any of their earlier picks I expect a pick swap on the night to get him.

I think they just wanted him for free. Most clubs would have half a dozen players ranked higher than Sanders in this draft.

AFL Talent Ambassador Kevin Sheehan has identified one player who he believes will be a draft bolter in 2023.

As the draft looms closer, a lot of the talk in AFL circles starts to point towards the end of November when the fates of many budding youngsters will be known.

There are always players who move up the rankings late in the piece and experienced draft guru Sheehan has found one with excellent speed and endurance attributes.

Sheehan is a big fan of Sandringham Dragons midfielder Charlie Edwards who he believes AFL clubs could move on earlier than was first forecast.


“A kid like Charlie Edwards is there,” he said on SEN Breakfast.

“He is a kid who has emerged in the last seven weeks of the year. He’s got some wheels.

“Even in the endurance, he won his heat of the 2km. It might have been about a 6 minutes 20 or so. If someone had have been up with him, because he was way out in front, he could get up to about 6 minutes 10 which is very, very elite. So he’s got that speed/endurance combination at 190cm.

“So he’s your draft bolter that wasn’t even in the main combine in the 65, no doubt.”

Edwards is a Bendigo native who has been boarding at Melbourne Grammar and impressed for the Dragons in 2023

If Curtin was available I’d be tempted to just take him rather than trade but wouldn’t care too much either way. A potential first pick next year would be exciting.

Curtin would be Selwood like in him slipping to our pick... and if he is there I cant see us calling anyone else. A 195cm midfield defender .... The only down side is both WA clubs would come for him.

You'd take him just for the bidding war from Freo and WC in future. You either keep him as a very good player OR they give up alot to get him over once we've developed him.

Every Vic club knows this. North will take him because they will try and swap him for Harley Reid in future.

Not really, Atkins lacked the tank and was used in limited spurts to ensure he could go 100% when on the field and recover on the bench, Bruhn still developing his was used in a similar fashion this year. Parfitt has had a very different journey, would have had enough of a tank to be the bull when Selwood, Danger, Guthrie needed a break, but never used in a rotational midfiled in the same manner we evolved in 2022. Developing a gas tank and ensuring he doesn't become too light to be a bull is probably the concern with his frame. I'm looking forward to seeing if he can break into this team, he appears to work hard on the track.

Working on fitness would help Parfitt no doubt but from my POV the reason he has been ostracised from the team / midfield rotation would be his kicking. AFL teams have really pivoted towards getting a clean possession / break from the stoppage rather than just a rushed kick and hope which is what has annoyed me about Parfitt when he has played.

CC – Unranked: Definitely around the mark to be a potential second-round pick. Had a solid year down back for the Falcons and with Vic Country in the national championships.

DB – 28: Hastie takes the game on with his dashing run and is also extremely versatile as a defender – doing jobs on top 10 talent Nate Caddy (193cm) and smalls like Rebels forward Lachie Charleson (176cm) this year. That mix is made for the modern game.

If WC have Curtain as the second best option for them out their board (truley not sure if they do)... I don't see why they wouldn't trade their F1 + even something else to get him... Assuming they already have taken Reid with #1.

Getting a local that is the second-best player in a draft (if that is where he is rated for them) for an F1 is a no-brainer for mine.

Haha yeah but as pre agents they’re gettable look at Taylor Adams and Lachie Schulz requesting trades with a year to go…. I don’t think Bailey Smith was too thrilled this year with his role at the dogs… but seems Mackie says it’s a no from Geelong…. Seems a nothing trade period for cats.
