As we are now getting into the season and we are starting to get a bit more serious with discussion, seems a suitable time to post the following as it's repeatedly shown itself to be a value reference tool in trade & draft discussion

And as per normal, thanks to Lore for putting this together - always a fantastic reference tool

And yes this post is now stickied - makes it easy to keep track of (can easily reverse this though if needed)

For those draft watchers… would ryley sanders realistically be available with our first pick??? And what are the odds of him being in the open market anyway??
Its would be difficult trying to predict where he would go if unaligned...an then where he is bid on if there is a need to match for him.

Curtin would have to tempt North at 2 but If they do get Sanders , does they persuaded them to look hard at McKercher. It might be their version of Anderson and Rowel . If so maybe they consider moving from 2 to 4 (Gold Coast pick) for an appropriate cost.

Are we presuming Norf get a comp pick of Number 2 band 1 for McKay?
Not sure they get that type of gift.
I'd be disappointed in the AFL. But then again it is a Melb Boys club.

Its all guesswork

....Its as simple as this .... the afl have a compensation model. Its based on multiple factors but its maily age and wage of players in the Free Agent age group. Basically if the offer is in the top5% of the wages in that group ..they will get Band1. Now wages move all the time..but it is estimated that an offer of 800/850 for two years ... A total of 1.6/1.7 million of for 2024 and 2025 will put him in the zone that activates Band1

So are you expecting the afl to not give North the compensation according to the formula? The question is ... what will Ess?Syd/Port pay Mackay. Forget what he is worth as a traded player.. whats the cost of obtaining him for free.

If the destination club do not pay the band1 number ..then band2 and Band 3 are identical. Will North let him go for something like P22/P24 comp. If I were North id say no. Its going to cost ess a R2 and maybe a FR2 to trade for him? Why do that? Only if Parish wants out.

So if Parish wants out of Ess..North will be trying hard to push Syd or Port as a destination.. as P2 would appeal more than 2 times a R2

North Melbourne are requesting to get the same concessions as Gold Coast got a few years ago when they were allowed to add academy players to there list prior to the draft. If so, Sanders won't even be in the draft.
Rewarding incompetence.

Firstly Sav picks his destination. Then Our P7 and our Fr3 will be well under some offers. Irrelevant as I cant see north trading #1..... the hard part for North will be like the JHF situation. Reid will be walking into a club thats is going thru some hard years.... can they keep all the kids happy.

Doesn't that come with the territory?

Isn't any club that finishes last, and therefore gets pick 1, by definition not that good..

If you are going to be crap, best make sure you are really crap in order to get draft assistance.
System is broken.
1. Be so bad it's an embarrassment to AFL house
2. Pressure the AFL into giving you a leg up by making the system look as broken as possible
3. ????
4. Profit 📈

Not that I disagree, but surely we also don't want a competition that has a few clubs that are perennial cellar dwellers?

You could argue, probably rightly, that continually providing draft concessions is not the best way to ensure this doesn't happen. But generally I'm ok with poor clubs getting extra assistance. The league is already so compromised anyway, it might as well be compromised in a way that tries to even the ledger.

Two quick points:
1) the AFL’s formula could be based on anything, given their secrecy.
2) North will have zero say on anyone’s destination

Sanders isn't currently in North's academy, they are asking the AFL to add him to it.

The Kangaroos, who remain in negotiations with the AFL, are optimistic Sanders will be added to their Next Generation Academy after he recently received his certificate of Aboriginality.

It makes absolutely zero sense in the context of the purpose of the academies:

The AFL Club Next Generation Academies are a joint initiative between the AFL and AFL Clubs, aimed at increasing the opportunities for young people to learn about and play the game of Australian Rules football. The program is targeted at Multicultural and Indigenous communities who may not have as much opportunity to be involved in football programs, or who have limited understanding of the game and how it is played. Whilst the programs focus is on these non-traditional football communities, it is a program that is available to all young players of any skill level aged 11 – 18 years old.

I don't believe Sanders is part of an indigenous community with limited access to football programs given he has only just received his certificate of Aboriginality, and given he was part of TAS and Allies state academies before receiving his certificate.

A lot of our boys have done similar shows for the same promoter, including GAJ and Danger. He did one with Scarlo and Boris last year.

Just a Sportsman's Night concept really.
Yeah some weird reactions to what is effectively a meet and greet/sportsmans night type arrangement.
He hasn't done the marketing for it himself, and the people that have literally just used pictures that i assume are off his instagram or advertising campaigns he has been involved in..

I mean if people are offended or questioning the judgement of a young afl player posing without his shirt on I hope they don't still hold it against our own coach who did so during his playing career...
