As we are now getting into the season and we are starting to get a bit more serious with discussion, seems a suitable time to post the following as it's repeatedly shown itself to be a value reference tool in trade & draft discussion

And as per normal, thanks to Lore for putting this together - always a fantastic reference tool

And yes this post is now stickied - makes it easy to keep track of (can easily reverse this though if needed)

Why wouldn't we ask the question in Jordan Sweet from Western Bulldogs? 25 years, 206cm , 106kg... can't get a game as his behind English whilst understanding.. is out of contract and would cost peanuts 🥜 maybe a 4th round pick ( which could be next year ) I think we're mad if we don't...
Thoughts?
I've seen a few Doggies fans get a bit frustrated that Sweet isn't playing, which suggests that at least they rate him as a decent player.

I'm surprised the Dogs haven't tried Sweet as the main ruck, with English as a Blicavs-like giant midfielder.

Heard the same... thats why a pick will go out along with his bags.

That better be a VERYYYYYYY early pick.

Been a lot of noises recently about Bowes amendment. Clubs taking a player under contract must abide by their conditions in full. NO amendments.

Obviously would love Parish as a FA, no idea if he is even considering us though.

Hoping Redman stays at the Dons and the SA clubs drive up his price plenty to eat extra into their cap.

Or even hoping that the Dons want to have a dip at Harley Reid and need the picks to do so.

Clubs can talk...but until the League change or amend the rules... We are in the ball game.

Just what is it going to take to get P1 from WC? Could Ess put an offer together? Seems multiple clubs interested.

It would take plenty... but if the Dons had 2x picks around 10 (still not enough) it's a very good start.

Maybe they think they can live without Parish and see the chance to get a future superstar to the club.

I'd be surprised if they haven't at least mentioned the possibility of getting involved in it internally.

Disagree. Unlikely to find a player with his talents late in the draft. The issue is that his is an outside winger that everyone mistakes for a midfielder. I think there is something there.

The one from the swans I like is Oliver Florent. I reckon he is a classy midfielder who has been stuck in the backline at Sydney
Florent is a really good player. Surely not gettable.

What sort of pick ..is it going to take for us to take Haynes on 1m+ .... it would have to be more than P46

Bowes cost the Suns Pick 7 and he was on the books for $800k per.
With Haynes on the books for $1.1mil. It's gotta be 8 or at least 10.
Certainly wont be 46.
I'll take 10 and then call it even. lol

Just how much cap room have we got? If we got P10 ..you could almost guarantee Carlton would ask for it. If we managed to gather 2 R1's ..we would lose one in a Dek trade for sure

There's no way that would be accepted by the players association and it would be blatantly illegal under Australian workplace law. There's no way you can enforce a prior contract when all parties want to alter it.

If that rule had been in place last year Bowes would've been left rotting at Gold Coast and they likely would've lost one of their talented youngsters. Everyone would've lost out.

In the afl world id not put anything out of the realms.

We are after all dealing with a competition that artificially constricts and contains players movements and wages in order to abide by the socialistic salary cap ... all while we have clubs paying for player on other players lists. Really Melbourne with Grundy last night was in real terms over the sal cap... but that is ignored. So I'd not exclude anything out of hand. Imo, if the afl want to ....the afl will say that the original contract will be going into your salary cap. Deal with it

It would then get down to Gold Coast to incentivise the deal even more or pay for a part of the Bowes contract to make the deal happen. It was after all money he was owed by agreeing to modify his terms of payment so Gold Coast could manipulate their salary cap.

Id say its more likely we trade for a tall like Tdek than a mid like a Florent
I wouldn’t put it as a tall/small dichotomy. Parish a chance, for example. More a matter of who is available.

If we trade for Parish... then we have nothing left for any other trade. Our talls really are tenuous . We can not approach another year with adding someone who is a ruck selection option.

What weould you do. Go hard for someone like Flynn as a FA.

I can see us only replacing Ceglar. Other than that we are well stocked for talls.

Is there a Possibility for a three way trade involving TDK and Ratugolea and a third club, especially if Sav is overlooked in the latter part of this season. Offered a pick in low thirties (iirc) last year, Sav is worth more now I think. Wouldn’t be against it, I believe we look much better without him, but I do get the appeal.

Haynes on over 1m was the figure i heard.

Correct its 800 per year backended so 1mil next year. But he they wont get any offers for him at 30 so they will just keep him for 1 more year then he goes onto a lower wage or retires.

No one is taking him.

Bowes worked because he was 24 and has time to turn it around.

Haynes is 30 and only has one year left theres no need for gws to do it (its only 12 months to cop and they arent contending anyway)and other clubs wont want him.
