As we are now getting into the season and we are starting to get a bit more serious with discussion, seems a suitable time to post the following as it's repeatedly shown itself to be a value reference tool in trade & draft discussion

And as per normal, thanks to Lore for putting this together - always a fantastic reference tool

And yes this post is now stickied - makes it easy to keep track of (can easily reverse this though if needed)

No one is taking him.

Bowes worked because he was 24 and has time to turn it around.

Haynes is 30 and only has one year left theres no need for gws to do it (its only 12 months to cop and they arent contending anyway)and other clubs wont want him.

I dont know. Others raised it as a name. I can only assume ... if there is anything to it ...they that it would give GWS room to match Hiundelberg if they wish to.

Is there a Possibility for a three way trade involving TDK and Ratugolea and a third club, especially if Sav is overlooked in the latter part of this season. Offered a pick in low thirties (iirc) last year, Sav is worth more now I think. Wouldn’t be against it, I believe we look much better without him, but I do get the appeal.

We are just blind jigsaw assemblers. What does Carlton want, what does Port need? ... so does Port have something to mollify Carlton? If Bergman wanted to go to Carlton you probably have three parts to the jigsaw... but of different worth. We probably have to add something.... and losing Sav would mean we need to find another tall defender somewhere.

I can see us only replacing Ceglar. Other than that we are well stocked for talls.

Replacing Ceglar with who ? Another moneyball player? Like Sweet etc.

Can we go into another season with mainly a 33 year Stanley when both Neale and Conway have not convinced me they are strong resilient ruck options? Im not convinced Neale is mainly a ruck . One might even say he is a version of Tdek.

Id be surprised if we do not add someone in their mid 20's to help our ruck group.

I guess I'm not as confident that we are well stocked. Not when I have seen the talls playing the VFL for us this year. Maybe see a fit dominant Conway would change my mind but the constant injuries of Daw Simpson has me tempered in my enthusiasm for being under represent with talls on our list. They seem to rest not play so many listed guys we may as well have a drafted kid on the list.

Just how much cap room have we got? If we got P10 ..you could almost guarantee Carlton would ask for it. If we managed to gather 2 R1's ..we would lose one in a Dek trade for sure
Carlton ? TDK ?? Yeah nah... Not worth a top 25 pick TBH.
TDK Not even on my radar as i only see Rhys Stanley Mark2.
Potential yes. Substance.. Sweet FA TBH.

Stanley has certainly proved his worth as a pick in the early 20s (over and over again), so if TDK can emulate Stanley with a similar pick then sign me up.

In order of likelihood IMO:

1. TDK
2. Any random journeyman in the same mould as Ceglar
3. A mid 20s player

I can’t see how we are not well stocked. Whether they are any good is a separate matter. It’s a fact that we are not moving any of these on (besides Ceglar) so there’s spaces to fill.

No way to prove this but I have no doubt ..if we gained a top 10 pick the n Carlton would come for it. Too much media talk about his value.... struth Cal Twomeny talked about trading Holmes the other day.

If we gained an second R1 , I could see us giving our natural R1 and our FR2 .. if we found ourselves with the pick to give .. as we have history of doing whatever it takes.

A lot will depend on what others offer, they will expect us to be close.

Just been out to watch Scotch v Caulfield GS - the kid Nick Watson is a freak. Kicked 6. Took a hanger and one of his goals was ridiculously good - boundary line from 40m - went through the middle with a drop punt almost goal post high. He’s only small but has power like I’ve never seen. He will be the most exciting player to watch in time.

So TDK for Ceglar? He would give us the play now ruck id like . If he doesnt come then we need someone else as imo.

Known afl standard

Ceglar 2023. ... ruck. We need to replace him... and have the option to move Stanley into Ceglars role.

Stanley 2024. ruck

Hawkins 2024 forward

Blitz. 2026. Ute/ Ruck.

Cameron 2028. forward

SamDek ... 2030+. Backman/Ute/Ruck. Its this young man that is the key question. If we plan to use him as a ruck...then yes we have it covered.

To me if we wish to plan for sam dek to be a backman we are light inr cuk

Unknown but degree of confident hope

Neale Forward? Ruck? I think he is athletic play in multiple roles
Conway. He is our #1 hope

Suspect atm but probably a bit like when we drafted sav.
Foster. I dont see a ruck option

Perfect for Carlton . Top510 id have thought. Has serious green vibes. Antagonistic and talented.

Are you only talking ruck?

I tend to view those contracted and on the list as ones we are committed to. So in 2024 it will be Stanley + ??? + Conway

I also view three pure rucks as the right number. We have a great support cast of part timers.

Thats basically what we used for Bruhn last year.will be fun watching agin to see if we can make thing happen with only one picks this year

I think gws are going to match himmelberg unless its band 1 anyway (and force a trade) and if its band 1 they will match. Either way they dont need to move haynes to do it. I also doubt haynes is willing to leave nsw anyway.

As I said, other raised his name ..as a possible pick purchase. On matching , I think GWS got away with matching our Cameron bid somehow...but it now looks they would have paid a heck of price matching. How much room do they have to match for HH. Anyway time will tell. My main guess has been us a deal with WC to get someone like Gaff..sort of replaces Smith. They took could just wait the salcap out... but by moving them early, they can push others into this year... and then have a big capability in 2024.

Ruck doesn't worry me to be honest, pending Conway's health.

By all the reports the club rate him incredibly high, we've finally got a star ruckman developing.

If whatever reason he's not available, Rhys can still hold down the position, and if there's genuine fears over that then we'll pick up someone like Sweet as backup.

Finding an A-Grade mid in their prime is a much bigger issue. Our gun mids are either kids or over 30 at the moment. We need to bridge that gap.

I've seen a few Doggies fans get a bit frustrated that Sweet isn't playing, which suggests that at least they rate him as a decent player.

I'm surprised the Dogs haven't tried Sweet as the main ruck, with English as a Blicavs-like giant midfielder.
We're mad if we dont have a crack.. rather go after him than TDK.. and cost far less as well..

Someone I know very very well knows Nick quite well. Has only lovely things to say about him; quality good person, very polite and humble. School isn’t really his go (it’s not for everyone), so he will be very very eager to make AFL work out for him in the long run. I’ve seen him play too and he stands out above the others… a gun footballer with great game sense. He is very short but he will definitely go top 10. If he was 10cm taller, he’d easily be top 2.

If he was 10cm taller he’d be G.Ablett snr. Seriously.

Hes a very good player and i agree he would be pick 2 if he was taller (as it is he still probably goes top 5).

Reid will be far and away the best player from this draft though, as classy as watson is.

If it's a million and we can't actually spread it then it has to be pick 8 and then some. How many clubs have 7.5% of their cap available next year?

Its a good question.

Atm.. nothing has changed but as we draw closer to the trade period...I suspect something will be announced. The question id ask... who would have the ideal balance between sal cap room and desired destination. Would we have enough cap room to absorb a player like that without a smoothing process?

The Bowes "concoction" might only be judged in 5 to 10 years time. Atpit , id say Bowes has shown he is capable of being in the side but has not really produced a definable , must select level worth of the remuneration allocation. As it stands .. id say Bruhn, Henry aquisitions are infront. Both have contributed more than Bowes. Clark is going to be a key part of if it works.

Obviously , If we have the space to bring in a player to give us a pick that then allows us to either go to draft or trade in a player of need , it would be ideal this year.

When did we start to hear about the Bowes deal last year. Till its becomes a thing , id say getting in a player on 1m after last year is going to be unlikely. Who is leaving retiring that will give us that much room?

Carlton currently P5 would seem an ideal fit for need. ON Reid, I still feel someoen like WC would be crazy to not see what deals are available. He will be good but the chance to get three of four pieces for that one pick is rare opportunity to supercharge their rebuild.

may have to look at parfitt season end, clearly something is not right for him this year, are we better to get some draft capital instead.
