Take into account the new cap. By 2025 it'll be 17.7m so 36% higher than it was when we signed Cameron for that. $1m is equivalent to $730k in 2020 dollars.

I would advise Holmes to sign a shorter deal because he could go higher by year 5

And I wouldn't give him 730k if we were in 2020 either.

I love him and he's gonna be amazing, I'll support the decision whether we give him 1mil a year or let him work cause in my eyes the club and Wells/Mackie know best.

I truly hope to keep him but we'll see how it plays out.

Lawson Humphries. Future elite player.

Get excited @Willo_ we are gonna need some extra carriages full of doritos
Might need to hunt that down for a listen.

As much as it’s just words… that is seriously good to hear.

Someone in the know doesn’t just come out and say that if they don’t think the player has what it takes.

At the very least… we should now expect a player that will be decent and not just a late draft pick fail.

IF Humphries and Wiltshire can both become AFL level players ... it will make our reboot a lot quicker.

I think setting the right expectations is important, no one wants to pull a Malthouse. If you are s**t because you are young then it is fine to have that attitude. As long as you are building towards something.
Are you sure malthouse had that attitude?? He was incredibly competitive and had some cery ordinary sides go deep into finals.

Zero hesitation too. Kingy was adamant

All fair to Mr King... I think id like to see him play in a couple of games before draping him in that cloak of success. Wiltshire is another Im very interested to see play.

Neither cost us the world so if one becomes and can replicate Dempsey potential then its a huge win.

If we have offered a 4 year deal at 750 (guess) .. it really does set him up for a FA windfall.

He mentioned Wiltshire had something but will take time

Yeah we're basically offering him a contract at just below what band 1 will be in 4 years right on time for him to hit free agency. The link is not lost on me

yes ...although my guess is in four years time ...Band 1 may well be 7 figures... , if he continues as expected ..its right in his crosshairs. He could be looking at 7 for 5 when he is 25 or so. Ohh so nice to be blessed with a good athletic dna profile....

And we really need up and coming back flankers too. Pace, skills, attack from the backline. Looking forward to tracking this kid's progress. Slightly mature age too, so hopefully a couple of proper AFL preseasons and he's good to go.

Could be an absolute Wells special. West Coast Academy but had his bottom age year and draft year both wiped out with covid then chose uni and never nominated. West coast desperate for players and we jump in and pull a TK draft day?

Chefs kiss

We are bereft of quality small defenders so there’s a spot open for him if he can deliver.

McGrath is an OK player but not worth the large amount of money required to pry him out of Essendon.

I agree mcgrath would be a good small defender (which we need) but i agree essendon wont let him go unless the offer is band 1 money and hes not worth that.

Humphries has an extremely good head on his shoulders and in his club introduction interview he mentioned that he was confident with the footy side of things, and needed to work on his athletic ability.

He certainly can kick it no stress with either foot.

Sounds like we all are really keen to see him and for good reason.

The other thing I liked was an interview he did with West Coast about moving away from home to go to school. How important he thought it was to go to uni etc.

Seems like a well balanced kind of guy

I do realise that the attached below video at '37 seconds' is only one piece of play but I've gotta say that would be as good of a single highlight I've seen from a young non-AFL player, it's absolutely a brilliant, stunning and 'exciting' piece of football orchestrated by Lawson Humphries, FUTURE ELITE..... let's bloody well hope so! GO CATS

Lawson Humphries Highlights | Draft

Humphries might end up being that damaging small rounding back that we probably are hoping Mullin would/could be.

If one of them turns out very good I’d happily take that right now.

I gotta say though in his interview I got the vibe that it was Geelong or nothing for him in the draft.

How could it be possible for a guy to be labeled as “future elite” by a coach only a couple of month after a draft where apparently nobody besides us were even half keen?

It’s not as if the WA clubs didn’t know about him.

Rookie listed players and late draft picks do sometimes turn into guns… so it’s not impossible.

I’m not going to allow myself to get too pumped up about him just yet… even after what Kingy said.

I’ll absolutely hope he is on the money… but I’ll get more excited when I see it with my own eyes.

Listening back through, kingy didn't say future elite but he sounded blown away by it.

I may have been too giddy with excitement to post accurately

Ahh that’s a bummer, because him actually saying those words would be big.

Where is the pod and what time was he being spoken about?

I’m probably best to listen to it with my own ears.

You nare correct of course ..its bit like the Parish situation last year. They probably match anything less than band1.

We can probably find some else to do a similar role for less.
