I haven’t seen the Ryan Daniels quote but if he said that, it’s huge. He always says he only reports and actual solid facts.

It's nothing definitive, but says Reid long odds to remain at WCE beyond 2026 and to keep an eye on us:

Ryan Daniels (WA Footy Journo) said if Reid leaves the Eagles he thinks it's Geelong. Tonight on Triple M.

Of course because Rhino knows he wants to come.
But the Eagles aren't trading him to us this year so it's all news for click $

Quick update:

It’s all happening this year, it’s madness…

Butters meeting confirmed. Basic indication is he is 100% leaving at the end of 2026. Race is on. (I personally think we should get Hinkley in some role to persuade).

Conversations with Reid’s management are strong and frequent. This is becoming more live by the day.

Conversation with JUH and his management occurred over the weekend. Lots of feeling out there but interest definitely not dead.

No updates on TDK.

No updates on Rowell.

No updates on Oliver.

Also, asked about Worpel. The news I’m hearing is he will go to Saints.

We can do it without losing someone like Holmes. Butters RFA , Kyuss wrote a good post about it.

Port are not letting butters go as an FA and reid will cost 3 years worth of picks.

If we somehow landed Reid this year then butters would be free because we'd get cleaned out the first time around.

No port would match and then tell him to pick another club in Victoria that has picks to trade.

He would nominate us, and there’s a gentleman’s agreement between Butters, his management, and Port to let it happen. Clubs that want to be destination clubs need to be easy to deal with — especially after 7–8 years of service. Unfortunate for Port but thats how the cookie would crumble.

Pretty sure that's not how it works

This is basically the Dan Houston principle (I know Carlton had the picks but they weren't prepared to do it) with an RFA. Port aren't going to simply fold because we trade our picks that's naivety.

That's push trading. You can't trade a player against their will.

It's not push trading.
They give him 3 options
1. Take the Matched offer and stay
2. Pick a club that will trade the picks
3. Risk the draft (which he won't because he won't get to where he needs to go).

We aren't getting butters without trading capital to do it which is unlikely.

If you ask Dogs supporters, almost to a man we wouldn’t do a straight swap – Baz for Kennedy. Not because Baz isn’t more talented, but in a well-functioning team you need players who do their role and allow others to flourish. That’s exactly what Kennedy gives us.
If you asked a fan of any club none of them would want Kennedy over Smith. If they do then they don’t enjoy watching their team win games. There’s a reason Dogs players leave and play better at other clubs.

With Butters … might it occur …. that if he asks for a trade … picks Geelong and Geelong has no picks that … Port still match and say ..we want you , will pay you want ever you want etc.

So then it gets down to if he desperately wants out and will take an alternate destination … or he stays for another two years to ensure he is a UFA and has total control.

For Port not to match ..they would have to fall to a bottom of the ladder position so they get a very early comp pick.

It’s the exact opposite of Houston though? North wanted him and were willing to put pick 2 on the table based on reports. But Houston didn’t want to go there, so they traded him to Collingwood for less

Don't know if anyone else is seeing it this way but Bailey is kind of becoming the club. When he stuck up for the captain and the way he gets around other players and consistently put his heart into the game. Wears his heart on his sleeve. He genuinely loves the Cats to bits. It's not just a job for him. There seems to be a genuine deep belonging there.
He could have learnt the song a bit quicker but other than that 🤣
There are some oppo supporters who are convinced Smith is dividing the club and that his "week off" after the first game was disciplinary

But I agree with this - seems to be a genuine love and acceptance.

Oppo supporters are just eating sour grapes 😇

How does the Dan Houston trade at all apply when he was still contacted to port for like 3 years? That is an entirely different situation

Want to give you a nice pat on the back.

Keep the info and details coming.

Whoever gives you crap needs to understand… that not all discussions and talks behind the scenes end up public and many things end up falling through. Anyone who has had involvement in corporate sales and business deals also understands this.

When you are talking trading people… there are so many dynamic parts and decisions that fluctuate, things can go from certain to uncertain as well at times.

It does not discredit you…I imagine we make 100 enquirers in due dilligence with only a handful turning into something more and from those handful only a smaller handful eventuate.

Continue the awesome work.
Fishgutz is my favourite poster on this board. Has good Intel and shares it.

And your last paragraph is 100% right. Players make promises to join clubs and change their mind. Doesn't mean the information at the time was not accurate.

Back on Geelong - just brilliant planning. We wipe out our draft picks but will continue to pick up academy players this year and no doubt, overlooked mature aged players.

Add Reid, Sdk and we are absolutely cooking. Hopefully one of Clark or Clohesy comes on. Bruhn returns and continues to develop. Conway and Edwards return from injury.

I only hope we avoid Oliver out of the names linked. I think JUH is worth the risk and he has the talent to become the best player in the league.

They're not sending a free agent to the draft. That's a bit silly
