Also, am I the only one who wants TK to come home tacked onto the back of the trade?

I can totally see Kelly wanting to return to Geelong but don't think it's going to happen with the family situation

Their oldest son is non-verbal autistic, one of the twins is also autistic though I'm not sure if they're also non-verbal like the older brother

I can't see Caitlyn wanting to live anywhere other than Perth with family support close by, and not sure Tim would want to live on the other side of the country

Money, time, and support can change a few things

I can see it being something like:

Geelong out:
  • 2025, first round & second round
  • 2026, first round & second round
  • 2027, first round
  • Potential fringe player open to moving but that could change the picks involved

WCE out:
  • Reid
  • 2025, third round
  • 2026, third round

If we can get a couple of picks back, especially third round picks, it can somewhat soften the blow of giving up picked in the first couple of rounds across multiple years, as there may not be that much difference between our second round pick and WCEs third round pick - but it's a move that looks a win on paper for WCE

I think this is a very “pro Geelong” trade.

I think for WC to even be half a chance of trading a contracted Reid to us, they won’t be leaving any meat on the bone and giving us back anything.

Those WC third-rounders could potentially be just a few selections after our second-rounders and our R1s will all likely be pushing pick 20ish.

It think they will take every single pick they can from us and give nothing of value back…. And I’m fine with that.

The draft situation is currently trash.

Also moving on one of our fringe players would probably be a good thing for us as they don’t move the needle on field and then one going would save us a few $$$ to help pay for Reid.

I’d love if WC were nice enough to take that deal.

I do think we won’t be so lucky.

Not doubting your intuition but that sort of sounds a bit like the death knell that was rung out on us year after year.

Imo.. they have such a aspirational organisation add having someone like ND and his brother that they will continue to be able to grab some FA types that want to play for them. The pressure is probably on to find some bargains as we have ..and to blend new and old a bit more. Can they find a couple more of the Ned Long types? ..and can one of their NGA’s this year become another bargain for them.

Logic says what goes up has to come down. For them For us. Other clubs have been saying that about us for years..and sooner or later it probably will happen. We are reliant on a match winner like Danger to seperate us atm what happens when he is gone. probably explains why some have been linking us to high end name trades.
I think they can attract players - but because of their brand as the biggest club with the most largesse, they cant negotiate lower salaries.

It's rare to attract players and get a discount for their services - and only Geelong can do it - but in turn attract a certain type of player who will get outside of salary cap opportunities. It's just how it is.

Collingwood can get great players, but will be paying a premium ie. Brodie Grundy, ND, JD, DeGoey, Moore and Houstan. They pay the premium, not because they have to sell themselves, they pay the premium because everyone else in the team is already paid so well too - so it's expected.

may need to be more creative

would something like

Cats send Mannagh and 2026 second and 2026 third to Carlton for Carltons 2026 first ( they will not want as they will be getting Walker as FS but will need points)

Offer WC - Cats 2025 first/ Cats 2026 First / Carltons 2026 First / Cats 2027 First

For Harley and WC 2026 third

I know it's Harley Reid, but... wow.

I'm not sure Wayne Carey on the day he was appointed captain of North was worth that much.

I don't believe he is but it will need to be massive to get WC to consider
WC don't need to do anything this year, but we may need to. Especially if we are in box seat for Butters as RFA

Hoping for TDK.
Despite the romantic aspect of TDK and SDK playing together I don't think Geelong are strongly pursuing that one.

But there's a kid developing nicely up north who we might get a good look at on Sunday. Geelong are into him in a very big way and would love to bring the boy home (or pretty close to home). And the bloke running around in #5 at Geelong is the kids idol and they catch up regularly I'm told.

I'm not normally one for wanting to go crazy in terms of too much trade currency being used in a single deal for one player

But sometimes you've got to make an exception and then look at the bigger picture

The other bonus is it will shut up those who keep suggesting we trade a first to Melbourne for Oliver...
If we take Oliver i think you'll have to put me in ICU due to the sheer amount of vomit that will come out of me

I think if we don't land Reid this year it'll mean we don't get butters. That's why i think they'll throw everything not nailed down at Reid.

3x firsts and 2x seconds? Take 'em. Jhye Clark and Mitch Knevitt? Both yours if you throw in TK.

I struggle to see those two names gaining us much traction. Can we gain a R1 from the likes of GC or Brisbane…. the points system has change but both of those clubs will waste their R1 matching .

I think the point of chasing elite mids is so guys like Gryan and Shauny can spend more time as hff receiving rather than being an extra number at contest

You'd be trading out an advantage to be less disadvantaged elsewhere

Might have to wait a while for a trade for young Azza
