i see in todays paper on the back page that the gfc are having a celebrity 20/20 cricket match against some other team at skilled before the vic v qld game.

names mentioned as playing were...

jimmy bartel
josh hunt

cameron ling
steve johnson
harry taylor

adam donohue
jeremy laidler

Apparently Jimmy and Josh Hunt go alright. Jimmy played for the Geelong XI in the state league's Twenty20 comp last year and made 18 off 12 balls and took a couple of catches.

I'm more interested in seeing how Blakey goes. Hope he can hit better than he can kick. :p

Bartel is an excellent cricketer, whilst Hunt and Ling are more than handy.

Remember the sly attempt to play him under another player's name a few seasons back?

Tenace was a freak cricketer to apparently.

Jimmy apparently is the best cricketer at the club, but Josh Hunt can strike a massive ball. He would be entertaining in a 20/20 game.

I think Geelong are playing against an AFL combined XI.

Jonathan Brown is good i heard, Marc Murphy, and im pretty sure Brett Deledio could have played at state level had he not chosen footy.

Just a bit of an insight thats all. :thumbsu:

Was a gun junior.

Would be cool to get Simon Goodwin and Shannon Hurn over here for that game. Both of them can play a bit.

I saw Hutchy said that in his column in the Sunday Herald Sun, but according to the Advertiser, they were going to be playing a Victorian Country side. Playing against other footballers sounds better though.

Didn't Geelong footballers used to have an 8 a side cricket match against the Roos during the pre-season?

As an aside, Judd Lalich (Essendon 1998-2001) holds the record for the seventh wicket partnership (IIRC) with Kade Harvey for the WA U-17s (1997).

Richard Hadley (Bris 00-07, Carl 08) also holds a similar record.

Also know that Jason Cloke and Cameron Cloke are both very talented cricketers.

Michael Clark (Frem 96-99 one game, Coll 00 no games) is the most recent player to complete the AFL/FC double (had to retire from cricket due to back injuries, son of Wayne). Nick Jewell is another who has recently had a taste of both.

Haha i might've been involved in that game as i filled in for my uncle's team one w/e when i was down a few yrs ago and jimmy, wojo n maybe d.johnson played as well under diff names

Jimmy Bartel busted his finger playing for Collendina in the Bellarine Peninsula Cricket Association the other week, got 10 or so stitches.

Andrew Mackie played alongside Mark Cosgrove underage rep sides in adelaide before footy. Quite a handy batsman from what i hear, should have a run.

No wonder he's so thin, Cosgrove probably ate both of their lunches for years.

Blake is apparently an excellent fast bowler, I remember reading that he played a game a few years ago, and the captain thought with his height he might bowl alright, so he told him to put it outside off stump. He bowled like that for nearly two overs without conceding a run, before he asked if he could try bowling on the stumps. First ball, wicket.

bryce gibbs is a handy cricketer i think. got offered a rookie spot with saca the year he got drafted but turned it down to go in the draft.

Hahaha. :thumbsu:

Maybe Bomber should tell him to get the ball more. We might have the next Dean Cox on our hands then. :D

I played a few under-17s games at Newtown and Chilwell with Blake, he opened for us.
