Gibbs vs Vince

Anyway, I see it a very close comparison, both had breakout seasons and both play similar roles.

i love vince, think he's a great player, but gibbs i think is that bit more clean. Also Vince has had something like 3 years more experience.

Vince is a very good player and has been arguably the Crows best player this season.

Gibbs had a slowish first half of the season but his second half has been excellent.

Barring the Brisbane game in round 2, I was disappointed with the first half of his season. While still winning a lot of the ball, he wasn't having the same impact he did towards the end of 2008. In fact, going by the Carlton Board POTY (see sig), he only polled 8 votes to round 10, 5 of those coming in round 2.

He was being played backwards of centre and wasn't involved around the stoppages where he is deadly with his poise, time and vision. Also thought he wasn't working as hard as he should be - seemed to be content to jog along leisurely instead of giving his all (particularly defensively).

However, he's been brilliant in the second half of the year and arguably been our best player in that time. He's winning a lot more of the footy forward of centre and around the stoppages.

Some stats (averages):
Rounds 1-10 -> 11-21
C.poss: 6.2 -> 8.36
Clearances: 3.1 -> 3.6
Inside 50s: 4.3 -> 4.7
Goals: 0.3 -> 1
Goal ass: 0.6 -> 0.9

Clearly show he's improvement in a number of key areas. It's no surprise that he went from polling 8 votes in the first 10 rounds to 29 votes in the last 11 rounds.

Murphy has polled 24 votes, Judd 20 votes, Fev 18 in the same period, so using that as an indicator, it shows just how good his form is at present.


I've said last year that I thought Gibbs would be our best player in 5 years time. If he continues the form he's displayed over the last month it'll be 2010 or 2011. Better than Vince now (beating him in just about every statistical category except disposals, where Vince has 3 more).

Vince is just such an unassuming player . . . yet he keeps getting heaps of the ball and he's got a mule of a kick.

I like Vince, he's a ball magnet and has a nice kick on him. Can kick a goal as well but Gibbs is better. So much more cleaner and has an aura about him. His skills are very good and his contested work has improved, mostly because he's maturing body-wise.

Definetley Gibbs, he is a worthy number one draft pick. Definite future captain, its hard to believe he is only 20 and has so much responsibility in the Carlton midfield.

I have Gibbs ahead now and in the future. Has so much time and space and he has been really instrumental in Carlton's form but so has Vince I guess...


Also, why do you bother putting up poll options now? People still vote incorrectly. Is it insecurity? I'm looking at both parties here...

Gibbs is better in pretty much every part of the game i think.

I rate Vince but Gibbs is a dead set gun and will be much much better the longer their careers span.
