LOL! As somone who bought a Nokia 3210 in the 90s on a plan that locked me into Optus for 2 years, I can confirm that even up to recently the coverage across the Geelong region by Optus is a joke, and so they should probably look to that before making these claims. Their business is a shambles. They sold off their investment in Trustwave after only a matter of years, and just last month claw back only some money is handing over the EPL rights to Nine Entertainment.Bumping a post from last month - Optus reported to be actively looking to invest in technology at the ground
Again, you like so many miss the part the club gets no actual say. They can bitch and moan all they want, as can members and supporters, but the Trust can do as they like. As they know, Cats aren't going anywhere are they?Get the club to do a deal with starlink. Sorted.

The club doesnt need the trust for starlink.Again, you like so many miss the part the club gets no actual say. They can bitch and moan all they want, as can members and supporters, but the Trust can do as they like. As they know, Cats aren't going anywhere are they?
Looked like high 20's or maybe 30k if we were being generous. What was yesterday's crowd? Seems officially that it's TBA or TBC. Looked very scant in the upper Selwood.
I agree, although no excuse for the large contingent of Geelong locals (who have reserved seats) not to turn up. No clash with kids sport / good conditions / and some interest in Jezza continuing his quest for an unlikely (but gettable) 100 goals.I doubt phone coverage would have affected the crowd anywhere near as much as:
1. Not wanting to stand outside the ground for long periods waiting for security
2. On paper (and in reality) this not being much of a match
3. Interstate team with relatively few local supporters
4. The relatively high price of reserved seats
Seems it depends on which carrier you are with.I don't get to the footy much any more on account of living somewhere else, but my memory is that mobile coverage at the footy - particularly in breaks - has always been absolute dogshit.
Have been on Optus network previously. Been with a provider carrying Telstra for a year. No difference at Kardinia Park of game day. Experience is shit either way.Seems it depends on which carrier you are with.
The perverse situation with GMHBA though is that the AFL's official telco partner, and a major sponsor (Telstra) are the worst when it comes to in ground experience.

Yeah, it was always poor at every ground, I guess, was my point.I'm with Optus and only once this season have I had serious reception issues at KP and that was during the Bulldogs match where it turned to shit from just before halftime until halfway through the last quarter
Otherwise, there's been minimal issues with our KP games
And as for any slowness during breaks, it's been the same experience at the MCG & even Marvel last week - so that's not an issue isolated to KP
There might be some coming just out of curiosity - This is only the third time they have played KP in more than 30 years, however the two other matches were affected by 1) Covid and 2) Stage 5 redevelopment, so for many this may be the first opportunity they've ever had to attend KP.Essendon members won't even bother forking out hard earned to come to Geelong and watch their mob get touched up.
Can the club explain why the cost is so high? That's not a price that in any way fosters community engagement in the facility. And wasn't community engagement one of the foundation stones of government funding?Reserved tickets are ridiciously expensive was $90 just for a reserved seat
No disrespect to our AFLW team but this "thank you gift" was a joke. The club's member and marketing divisions need a kick up the arse. The funniest part was the ground announcer telling members to check their email inbox for a special member thank you gift. The response from a few people around me was along the lines of "yeah whatever, I can't even open my messages".
It was. Before others jump to conclusions those upper areas are not reserved seating. Reality was we were playing Port and a side, per the final score, that is interstate and rubbish at the minute. Dead rubber despite the slow start by the Cats.Looked very scant in the upper Selwood.
Like tech in general, it's definitely improved in the last 5-10 years, but yeah, it's generally still terrible.I don't get to the footy much any more on account of living somewhere else, but my memory is that mobile coverage at the footy - particularly in breaks - has always been absolute dogshit.
Similar to the club's 12 days of Christmas in July campaign, where every day's offer was just a new way to spend money without any of the deals actually being good value. No disrespect to our AFLW team but this "thank you gift" was a joke. The club's member and marketing divisions need a kick up the arse.
Actually it is a trust issue. It’s not a Trust or club issue. It’s all on Telstra who are providing a crap and inferior service. If it’s that much of an issue, change providers. The others are cheaper and in most cases have better coverage these days
The Trust is state government owned, not councilActually it is a trust issue.
When you're undertaking major builds you generally consult with telco providers and have this stuff sorted prior.
Being the useless pricks the COGG are, they didn't.
I sit in the Selwood Stand behind the goals. I'm with Optus and rarely have any issues.I'm with Optus and only once this season have I had serious reception issues at KP and that was during the Bulldogs match where it turned to shit from just before halftime until halfway through the last quarter

Not reserved, but I assume not free. $90 a pop according to another poster. It was a perfect day weather wise, Cameron is being talked up by all media, Cats are a big chance for top four, we're stacked with exciting young talent (Smith, Holmes, Dempsey, Neale ...), and yet we can't even get to 30,000. Our club does a lot of things brilliantly, but it's performance in relation to taking advantage of a great facility has been sorely lacking. We should stop making excuses for them on this issue. It was. Before others jump to conclusions those upper areas are not reserved seating.
