Last few weeks the mids have really stepped it up in terms of hitting the scoreboard. And unusually it's not just Murph doing it! Juddy and Gibbs have really stepped it up.

Gibbs has 9 in the past 4 weeks and Judd has 5. Add to that ~4 for Scotland, Robbo, Ellard, Murphy, Kruezer and a couple to Simmo that's a damn good record for the boys. :thumbsu:

Agreed that Gibber has lifted his game. Playing extremely well at the moment.

It's good to know that we have so many avenues to goal. Now we just need them all to kick straight.

Good point in big finals games getting goals from the midfield when the game is tight is crucial and gives you an advantage!

Gibbs has had a great season. Not so much that he's improved but rather he's had a change of role. Playing forward of centre and doing it brilliantly.

Is running harder, both backwards and forwards.
Confidence is up, will be a KEY player in any of our finals games. Hope the others whom are playing defensive roles ( Ellard, Carrots etc ) hold form so that Gibbs can continue being used as an offensive weapon.

Some food for thought, here's the goal tally from our midfielders thus far:
Position in team tally - Player - Goals
4 - Murphy - 19
=5 - Gibbs - 16
=7 - Judd - 13
=7 - Ellard - 13
9 - Simpson - 12
11 - Robbinson - 8
12 - Armfield - 7
16 - Carrazzo - 4
=19 - Joseph - 3
=19- Curnow - 3
25 - McLean - 1
TOTAL: 99
Percentage of all team goals: 32.67%

Now compare that to a team like Collingwood:
2 - Swan - 26
4 - Blair* - 23
5 - Sidebottom - 22
6 - Pendlebury - 21
9 - Beams - 17
10 - Ball - 15
11 - Thomas - 13
11 - Wellingham - 13
15 - Didak* - 9
TOTAL: 159
Percetage of all team goals: 46.9%
*Time on ground divided between midfield and forward-line

Now some may compare these two lists and say that we are still some margin away from being a team like Collingwood. However they clearly have a stronger focus on producing goals from their midfielders. This is displayed in each teams' top 3 goal kickers:
Carlton:
1 - Walker - Forward - 49
2 - Betts - Forward - 45
3 - Garlett - Forward - 41
TOTAL: 135

Collingwood:
1 - Cloke - Forward - 53
2 - Swan - Midfielder - 26
3 - Krakouer - Midfielder/ Forward - 25
TOTAL: 104

I prefer the path we're going down because, yes, you need a large amount of goals coming from your midfield, but you also need more than one option down forward, and we clearly have both ATM. :thumbsu:

Midfield has definitely contributed but what's with Robbo's shooting on goal? It's so wayward at the moment its almost comical, he is absolutely bereft of confidence. Even that one he scored against Dees was a dog of a miskick but he nearly needs to miskick them like that to score. Awful and will cost us a game one day if not rectified.
