amen!!!! cupping is bad. ive been doing it and just been diagnosed with it.
Yep this is my issue. Years of slashing through point and cover with a cricket bat has not helped.

I was at the range during the week and was just having a muck around after working on some things eg doing like a pendulum above the ball a few times back and forth to get the ‘swing’ feeling starting on the back foot and walking into the shot. Was amazing how pure I was hitting them when I was starting stationary above the ball. I think my key is to almost forget about everything I’ve ever read and learnt and try to just ‘swing’.

This is it.

My current golf coach, the one I've decided to go with moving forward has always told me Golf is a sport where the harder you try, the worse result you get. What he means is that when making a swing trying to over control with too many thoughts leads to disaster.

Me: ‘Ok remember nothing else but swing’
Also me (top of backswing): ‘this ball isn’t going to annihilate itself now is it, grip hard and give me 110%’
Also me again: Ffs

Had my best lesson last night, never swung like this before it's almost completely different to how I was delivering the club even a fortnight ago. Consistency still a problem as I was really focussed and stiff trying to exaggerate the movement but when I was getting it right it's the best I've ever hit it.

Really interested to see if I can bring it to the course on the weekend. The key change was a backswing with more shoulder/back turn and a downswing with a wider swing arc rather than a chicken wing finish. It's not perfect yet but when I was hitting them it's further than I've ever struck it.

My guess is it will work well early in your round with some great powerful strikes and then fall away later as you start to get tired and revert back to old habits.

Big props for being prepared to take the changes out onto the course early on after a lesson. It's the best way to go.

Okay, so I won't be doing that again. Played today first time after Thursdays lesson, I reckon you need at least 50 balls at the range to practice the change you learn in the lesson. I couldn't apply it from the first tee and spent my round overthinking and trying to self correct and it cost me.

Just wasn't in the right frame of mind because all the movements I would have just repeated at the range gave me too many swing thoughts today. Havent had enough time to ingrain the new swing into default pattern.

Key lesson learnt, from now on its Lesson > Range session > Try on course

Been pulling my mid irons a bit at times. (ball going in a straight direction but left....I'm right handed). Divots also telling me that sometimes my path is in that direction. Sometimes my shoulder turn is not full and I suspect that is the reason. (4 of my 5 par 3s yest were left and a few more this morning).

Do you draw or fade normally?

Great question. Since I made swing change I hit a very gentle fade mostly. Before the change it was a draw. Occasionally the draw comes back with irons but i really have to concentrate on in to out to do it. Fade when I am not thinking about it.

The greatest golf epiphany I've ever had was after 20 years off.

Youtube is an amazing resource.

Turns out I was standing too close to the ball all those years ago and my posture was shit.

Corrected those two things and I'm so much more consistent with every club now.

I used to hit a big fade and I'd recommend that if you do too, try standing a little further away from the ball and swing in more of an arc rather than up and down ;)

First lesson I ever had 20 odd years ago was posture. Last lesson I had posture was addressed.

Well after having my worst round for years down at Thirteenth Beach I was duly presented with a number of lessons at Kew CC.

Had my first yesterday and was surprised with a few technical things that I didn't do.

Opened stance more, hands higher and less dominate.

Went out today in the rain and wind at Mandalay. 85 of stick and 44 points 🤷🏼‍♂️

New swing felt good and connection much better. But going to have to head to range to continue the practice.

Having had a second lesson in 10 days, it's to the range for the next month to sort this setup out. It's all to do with my hands, arms and weight position. Instead of the weight transfering forward I am fighting with my body as I have too much backwards. Apparently it all begins with my arms and hand positions.

Am going to get there because Im super competive and I just can't have my mates beating me.

An open question.

Has anyone on here had a lesson on anything relating to the short game in 2020/2021 rather than ScrappyCoCo?

Just looking to confirm my untested assumption that 99% of golf lessons performed relate solely to full swing mechanics.

Had a lesson last year and the pro asked what I wanted to work on - swing, short game, putting.

Got another one booked in soon and will be short game (inside 100m) focused.

Was given the option. I looked at my stats and where I give up the most shots relative to my hcap, it’s off the tee and approach for me so I’m focusing on my swing.

Spoke with pro about PURELY that
Chipping lessons. Flops, checks, bump n runs

Now trying to confirm times based on work schedule

Had a case of the putting yips on Saturday.
Missed 3 from inside 18 inches and nearly missed 3 others.

So every afternoon this week I'm putting 100 putts from 2ft into a 1 &1/2 inch trophy base.

If I miss i start again.

After 3 days I'll take it to 3ft.
Same rules same routine.

Repetition to create the must swing through the putt and finish the stroke

But what if you have a bad technique and are only reinforcing that bad technique?

2020 yes, I had one lesson for an hour on bunkers/chipping around the green in March. To be fair, was the only one I've ever had. Everything else has been full swing.

I also believe that as long as your consistent who cares

See Jim Furyk if in doubt of the importance of technique

Interesting guys - thanks. More than I suspected have gone down the short game lesson path.

This is really interesting. What you say is 100% correct for most recreational golfers and borne true by data presented in Mark Broadie's seminal "Every Shot Counts". Most people would walk away after reading that book thinking they need to work on fixing their swing.

What the book did not explore was how easy it would be to improve the various components of your game. Personally I think making significant full swing changes as a once a week player is extremely difficult at best and an exercise in futility at worst.

Short game improvements on the other hand, due to the smaller, shorter swing, the limited need for a particular level of flexibility, the availability of practice facilities (can chip in back yard, can putt on carpet) etc I think are potentially easier to make.

ScrappyCoCo you have been the poster child here for going on a full swing rebuild whilst being part of the working population. Your thoughts/experiences would be good.
