Grand Final Question Re Standing Room.

Power, Cat, Swan, Eagle - how early do you need to get to standing room to get a good spot (ie 1-4 people deep)

Up the back of the seating areas is where you will be standing

If its like the two GFs I had standing room tickets for in 02 and 03 you'll be in a particular standing area, ie at the back of and behind sections M4, M5, M6 etc. As far as I am aware there will be a certain number, and equal number, of 'tickets' in each area. You cant go and choose the area in which you want to stand so whatever one you have is where you will be.

In 02 we got there about 12pm and had to stand about 3/4 of the way back, was OK for me and my mate because we're 6ft 1 and 6ft 3, but if you're way shorter than that I would be suggesting getting there a tad earlier.

Of course people move throughout the day and you'll probably find your spot moves sideways, backwards or forwards throughout the course of the game, but most people, once they have their spot (especially if its towards the front) will be hellbent on getting that position again when they return from wherever they have been.

I'd be getting there reasonably early - from what I see the Unders is on Friday night at TD so not sure whats on before the pre-match entertainment, possible super-soakers...

I got there during the TAC Cup GF and was only a few ppl in the standing room section. No security stopped me going anywhere at that time.

How do they monitor the people in standing room? I heard a rumour that they were going to use wristbands or something.

I've got some prime seats on level 2, but am going to forgo them and just stand with the boys as per every other game.

I didn't think they monitored where you stand. For the 2004 GF (I went with my Port-Feral husbad) we had driven over from Adelaide the day before and there was no way I was going to be standing at the back. We got there 1 hr before the gates opened, grabbed a Herald Sun as raced around as far as we could to the centre of the ground when the gates opened. Then sat down for a few hours and read the paper!! Probably could have got there a 1.5 hours later and had 2nd row standing, but I wanted front row so I had the fence to lean on and so the grandstand didn't block out my view. We were however surrounded by Brisbane supporters as I gather they had been 'allocated' that bay. Didn't matter though as it was first come first served.

Apparently behind the goals is pretty good as the grandstand doesn't block out the view too much. At the end of the game it's great too as all the neutral supporters bugger off and you can get right down to the boundary.

Anyone willing to swap 1 seated ticket (e.g. Level 4 is fine in Southern Stand, etc) for 2 standing room tickets, with the approx difference in money? My wife is a shorty - and would prefer to sit anywhere.
A GREAT OPPORTUNITY to get a friend in the ground who may have missed, a non-member, etc.
The standing room tickets are separated M20 and M4.

i went last yr. got there during the last quarter of the TAC and the 2 of us were up against the rail. piece of piss.

we were in M50 which was a magnificent position. lucky to be allocated this section, although theres not much security and ticket checking from memory.

the people sitting in front of us paid twice as much to be 30cm closer to the action.

Was thinking about standing and watching with mates cause they are not sitting near me, but if I dont have a good view I can always go up to the seats.

Get there at gates open if you want Primo spot.
I don't think they are all that strict with where you actually stand.

In 08 I rocked up around 12pm (two and a half hours early) not many people around at the time and I placed myself right at the front behind the rails, behind the goals Ponsford stand end. It started to build around 1pm half hour before the game it was five six rows deep. Naturally you had to stay there or you'll lose your spot, pack a backpack if your on your own. Just pray you don't need to take a wizz. If your with a mate you or your mate can spread himself until one of you come back.

doubt people will be that generous, if you need to go to the dunny well that's just bad luck I'm afraid, need to mentally try and hold it in.

If you're on your own make best friends with whoever you are next to and any luck they'll hold your spot for you.

Otherwise hope for the best.

You'll still be fine to see the game.

Forget taking kids in standing room though.
