How good was it to see the big fella back near his best with his second efforts, clearances and marking around the ground. What a massive difference he makes to our side.

Hamish was super tonight.....and what a difference to the team! I loved it when he floated down forward and kicked a goal! Seems like Laidely may have cottoned on to what I personally have been saying for two years.....why Hamish does not rest in the forward line more often I will never know! SUPER EFFORT H!

His game made a huge difference.
It was almost a relief to seem him get that sort of form back.
Just about our most important player now I think.

Really liked Laidley's move of roatating Hale and Hamish through the ruck/goalsquare.

I didn't see the game, but am very glad to see H big in the best.

How did Hale perform? Has been more up than down lately, but am really hoping to see him string a few better games together.

He contributed but not in our best. Kicking for goal is letting him down but is getting to more forward contests.

Agree.

Getting on top in the clerarances goes a long way to covering over some of the teams deficiencies.

His close in work was sensational. Clean hands and linkage work was first rate. Loved the play when Wells burst into the centre and between three bulldog players, fired a 15 meter handball to Hamish who popped it over to Drewie who popped it through. Took me the rest of the quarter to get flacid.

Like time someone fired a handball out to big H who streamed down the ground & passed to Thommo for a goal...................

Oh thats right, it never happened - the umpire tripped him up, the ball spilled free, Aker picked the ball up & goaled

Great game by the big fella, hopefully its a sign he has returned to the form he showed last year. Hamish in form moves us up another gear without any shadow of a doubt.

H featured in my votes for a massive game and when he's on, so are we.

Becoming a barometer for the team actually IMO.

On a side note I thought Hale was a good back up and we didn't lose too much when he went in the middle to give the big fella a rest.

If these two continue with the form they're in we are going to get 1st use and win more clearances than just about anybody in the comp.

while Hamish had a huge game Hale was very good in the ruck work, doesn't get enough credit on here for his ability to tap to advantage.

Ha ha - well done, CR. :thumbsu:

Better not say any more, there's already another thread on that ridiculous piece of umpiring.

Hale has been very good since his return from injury but there is no doubt the niggling injury that H has been carrying has cleared up as he looked a different player yesterday. Moved well and played much more on the ball.

Get's targeted a fair bit on here due to the fact that some just don't think he's reached his full potential after promising a fair bit a few years ago.

I don't suscribe to that line of thinking though, I'm still a believer that if he's played as a Ruckman and only a Ruckman, he'll get to the standard we know he can reach. Trying to make him a CHF just stuffed him up for mine.

Potentially the best Ruck combo in the comp with these two.

To me that was Rawlings fault. Why handball directly to the umpire, that was his fault not the umpy who is not expected to read what players are going to do. He was stationary and Rawlings handballs straight to him.

Disagree. The players handball to the space that their teammate is running to. Clown umpires need to vacate said space.

OK, maybe a little harsh, because there will be times when it is difficult for them to move - though not many which is why it hasn't been an issue before. There should be a ball-up rule in such circumstances (just like when the ball is bounced horribly by the umpires, a la the Collingwood game), so that a team is not severely penalised by umpiring mistakes (that are not related to their decision-making).

Won't be long until the AFL wake up. Just get the feeling 'common sense' will prevail on the bad bounce. Whether it's this season... who knows? With the ump getting in the way.... what's wrong we them bobbing down on the spot?
Saved me a dozen times on the Gridiron field that had players hurdle me, dive over and miss me all together without breaking stride. It's bloody common sense, not that the AFL wish to adopt that 'sacred mentality'.

btw.. Hamish had less than 20% of his tap outs go to advantage which isn't enough for an ALMOST AA. The prospect of smashing it out of the air when we're undermanned in the ball up is something I'd like to see more of.

Guys,

I think someone here may have mentioned it but I will ask the question anyway...

Why does'nt Hamish ever have a spell in the forward line???????

I actually can't remember him spending 10 minutes down there ever in a game!, just as a change up once in a while, Ofcourse we already have several big guys down there, just throught that it made the opposition really think about the matchups and put them on the back foot...

throughts??

I think in theory its a good idea deliberately pushing Hamish forward but he finds his way down there a few times a game and now and again gets a goal. This is pretty good. I wouldn't want to jeopardize the good work he does naturally around the ground especially through the middle as a link-up midfielder, which is one of his main strengths.

I don't think it's really worth it however when you consider the impact that he has around the ground. Was so impressed when he has pushed back into defence to fill the hole. What team was that against? i can't remember. Anyway, the rotation of Hale and Hamish (much discussed on this board) is working pretty well as it is. With other forwards needing development and form at the moment, I would rather see H and Hale rotating as ruckmen, having breathers in the forward line. They need to get to a stage when they are both in form, giving each other the opportunity to punish the other side and get as much time on the field as possible.

Played well over 80% of the game according to Champion Data IIRC.

His average is around 55%.

I know he has a small tank, but we should rest him in the forwardline. All he needs to do is bring the ball down to the crumbers, nobody would outmark him that easily.

Pretty sure i saw him having a rest in the forward line in the 3rd q on Sunday.

Great game but you could tell he was tired towards the end
