Hawks Declare Hand for Trade Week

A few reasons for this.

Push his price up, stop other teams getting him.

Exactly, there is a lot of bluff and counter-bluff:

1. We may not want him at all, but the rumour forces other clubs to pay above the odds.

2. We may actually be after someone else, and this distracts them from our real focus.

3. O'Keefe's agent may have started the rumour to get a good offer from the Swans

Don't assume that the Hawks are actually going for him!

All could be true, however I'll take Pelchen at his word on it.

Wouldn't be suprised if Crawford retires afterall in the next few weeks.Could it be that our recruiting guys might already be aware of this and are looking to put some experience back on the list.Just a thought.

That's my thought as well.

We've maintained a bit of experience all the way through Clarko's reign. Losing Vander, Dixon and Smith was a huge hit to that. Yea we won the premiership but Dew's experience was extremely important. You need a balance. Lose crawf and we've only got Dew and Croad in the 'experienced' bracket.

I'm really torn about this. I reckon O'Keefe is an absolute star. He's far from the missing ingredient though. Very strange.

Also strange was hearing Pelchan's lisp. A bit of the elmer fudd about this character.

It's his trade week tactic. During the rest of the year he goes back to practicing medicine and his 2 law firms.

As much as I like ROK and think he is a gun, I'm having mixed feelings about this whole trade scenario.

On one hand, I think he would fit into our side and play an important role.

On the other hand, he is 28 and if we pay him want he wants it will create resentment (I think) with a few of our high profile players. I would also like to see us develop one of Dowler/Thorp in the early stage of next season to assess their worth.

I think I'll be content to sit on the fence for this one and see how it ends up friday night before making judgement.

If he helps win another flag - what resentment??

Would love Crawf to continue. We have enough experience now. Do not need to top up on leadership.

No O'Keefe for me. On the decline who commanding high price.

His is all about the money and not the club.

For a start, Franklin/Hodge and maybe a few others are worth more than what we would paying ROK, yet he waltzs into the side with one of, if not the biggest pay packet at our club.

Also the fact that we could challenge for the flag without him. I'm not sure about you, but if I was at a club my whole career and considered an elite player and a outsider joined right after we won a flag and got paid more than me, it would be in the back of my mind. Not saying I would make a fuss, but it would sit there.

:thumbsu: well said ME.

For the life of me I do not understand why where even interested.

Goes against everything we have built up. Only 1 traded for player in our Premiership side and that was Trent Croad.

A 23 yo KPP backman yes. A 28 yo forward. No.

guys lets be realisitic here unless anyone has any idea what the club is willing to offer him money wise then you cannot base assumptions around expected amounts of 600k. for all we know he could be discussing a deal for around 450, secondly ROK is a quality player and a quality leader on the field, was regarded as the next captain in Sydney after Kirk, thirdly for a team that has a very young forward line i think he could definately add a lot. Is a tireless worker, great example to set on the training track.

AND most importantly when you're at the top, which we are cuz we won the premiership you have to move hell and high water to stay there, because... be rest assured the blokes behind you are going to be doing anything in there power to catch you, if we want to win another premiership we have to improve our team from this year to next. ROK is a great example of how we can go about doing this.

Try and pick up underage kids that wont get a game for 2 years.
We have enough tallent within for another flag.

Not an overly great pick.. trade it if we can get quality

:thumbsu: Im with you Rusty

I can see the virtue of finding a replacement for Croad but not breaking up our current forward line to do it (ROK into forwards - Roughie back)

I just hope we are sitting back in 12 months time in the after-glo of another flag applauding another Clarkson coup
