GH, some of our younger posters probably wouldn't even know what that was.

Thanks for that BG, for younger posters including grizz and echols, it is a broken record, Henry just won't let go on certain topics.

This week - just Goo in for one of Murphy or Cheney
Hodge - give another week at Box Hill - bring him in if right for Geelong - our bogey side. (Murphy or Cheney for him)
Franklin in against Geelong for........Savage or Poppy??????? Dont really like either of them going out.

When we play Port and GC, players such as Mitchell, Sewell, Burgoyne, Hale should be rotated. Also maybe a Gibson as well.
Say against Port, Mitchell, Hale, Gibson out, Bailey, Ellis in (assuming Ellis has played footy at Box Hill., gilham
Week after against GC, Sewell, Burgoyne, Roughy out, Hale, Mitchell, Gibson in.

This will give some senior players, who are bruised and battered a week off, plus getting games into the fringe selections, getting them up to speed again, for the last 2 big games against Swans and WC.

Murphy played really well. Has been unfairly treated due to his days playing in a struggling defence. As our 5th or 6th defender he has a spot, over Cheney anyway. Hard to see how Gilham makes his way back in.

Goo and Hodge for Cheney and Savage. Murphy (unlucky) to make way for Buddy against, or after, Geelong.
I can actually see Murphy leaving at year end being a free agent - unfortunate, but not crushing.

Have no idea who gets the vest.

Hawks by 86 points, and not even being arrogant. Suck it, Scum.

Spent the last three hours at work going through the Bay 13 Pies v Hawks thread, and had a snoop over at the Pies board and their related Hawks game threads - best way imaginable to kick start the working week!

I kind of hope its more competetive than the pies game, but judging by how the cats beat them, I cant see them being too hard to humiliate. I believe the Hawks will just go harder from here on end and I can see us winning every game for the last part of the season. The most important game is the cats one though, you would REALLY think we would beat them now, but you know it will still probably be competetive.

Seems that Clarko doesn't like changing what isnt broken, and what works, so I cannot see any changes apart from the key players like Goo, Hodge, Buddy, from this day forward, when they are ready. Cant see Bailey coming in at all unless there are issues with the others or to rest the others. It would be a very smart move to rest and rotate players in the easy games, I hope they do that. That pies team should be concrete cept for the obvious inclusions as mentioned.

Clarko is not big on changes after a good win. Guerra deserves his place and so is in for Cheney. Buddy still has a week to go I understand. Hodgey however must be causing the greatest selection dilemna. A walk up start under normal circumstances but you get the feeling though that managing when he returns is crucial. Another setback could bring the curtains down on his season.

Mitchell suggesting in the media conference today that bringing Hodge back this week on the hard surface at Etihad might not be the best idea. Fair point too. Let him have another run at Box Hill and bring him back for the Cats game.

DF, you really think Hodge is a chance of coming in this week?
To me he looked pretty lame when he came off and had enough ice on his knee to chill three slabs.

The club says that Hodge took a knock to the knee, which explained his limping. Watching the incident in question, I thought he came down and jarred the knee when landing, then hobbled about for a few minutes. He was certainly very proppy until he was put on ice in the fourth quarter.

It's difficult to say with Hodge. Before he had that little incident, Hodge only looked like he was going at about 50%. The last time Hodge returned through Box Hill (pre-season last year, IIRC), he also looked like he was going at about 50% and I thought at the time that he'd spend another week at Box Hill.

I daresay that the club will be keen to get him back into the fray to get him match-fit for September. Although I understand that Friday night on Etihad may not necessarily be the best surface for him to return on, I would rather he returns against Essendon, which has its own injury problems to deal with, than the Cats the following Friday night.

Was watching the sunday footy show and craw was getting excited about bateman coming back, bloody hope they dont do a repeat of last year, he was great in his time, but don't bring him back please!

Bateman plays his final game against the Gold Coast and then it's curtains probably.

If they were to do that, the fixture couldnt be better arranged

Guerra on one of Davey/ Jetta and Burgoyne (if played back) on the other. Burgoyne will smash whoever he plays on, has killed small forwards all year

He certainly has. He's been great at doing this in 2012 as well as providing good leadership & rebound.

I'm inclined to think that Murphy may stay in to play on Fletcher. He did a very good job playing as the defensive forward on Maxwell and we'll be after a similar performance this week. That said, Franklin is fit so that role shouldn't be required. Can't see how Fletcher could play loose man with Franklin, Roughead/ Hale, Gunston, Breust, Rioli, Puopolo and Lewis all playing forward. He'd get cut to pieces.

IN - Guerra , Franklin and if fit Hodge
OUT - Cheney, Murphy and maybe Savage?

Murphy and Cheney are not in our best team.

Savage, Young & Smith are probably competing for only 2 spots.

If we continue with the Hale/Roughead combination we could be in serious trouble if either player goes down early in a final. Who then takes over in the ruck? Probably Shoenmakers... That's why I'd like to see Gilham in the side. He's a genuine full back and is good for our structure should one of our key talls become unavailable. Gibson and Stratton are more than capable of playing on a smaller forward if needed.

how do you figure that? 16 posessions inclusive of 6 turn-overs, the majority of which he was under no pressure...
Murphy didn't have a great game, nor did he have a bad game. He did OK for a guy playing out of position against a top side. Seems like you get your "6 turn-overs" info from clangers, would i be right?

I doubt if Franklin and Hodge are seriously being considered for selection this week. In fact I would not be surprised if neither played the following week against Geelong. It is not worth the risk rushing either back into the side unless they are absolutely 100%.

Guerra should come in at the expense of either Murphy or Guerra.

If Murphy stays in the side I would be gobsmacked if he was played on Fletcher. Tom has a reasonable track record on smalls and mediums but based on past form cannot handle talls. Fletcher is faster. taller and has better judgment and skills than Tom. If we want to stop Fletcher play someone on him who can kick goals and hurt them on the scoreboard.

Hawks won't take this match lightly. At this point the only way we can guarantee a top 2 finish is to win all our remaining matches and maintain our superior %.

Winning the Sydney game is crucial in this matter and while it's possible Adelaide and Sydney could drop games they're not expected to between now and finals that see us move past them while dropping one or two ourselves the team needs to go out every week and play like those teams will win all their other games.

It feels to me like the Hawks have already been playing like this ever since the Richmond loss.

Wha?

May be time to give big Hale a rest....he was seen limping to his car at Waverley today.

Out: Hale Murphy
In : Bailey Goo

If they decide to play Hodge also

Out: Cheney
In : Hodge

I'm struggling to see who makes way for Franklin.......thats not at the expense of run.

Guerra will come back in. Murphy or Cheney out. I thought Murphy was poor in the first half, and decent in the second. Not in our best 22, imo, but a handy depth player. Cheney was quite good but not currently in our best 22. He might be before long, though. I'd probably bring Hodge in, provided it's not a risk to do so. That's on the basis that you want him as close to his best as possible against Geelong. Not to say I take Essendon lightly, but I think Geelong will be the bigger test, so I would maximise our strength for that game. If Hodge comes in, then Murhpy and Cheney both go out.

Buddy another week, we can't take any risks with him now. I'd consider giving Bailey a game, and having Roughead play permanent forward. Perhaps that will be something we try in round 20 or round 21, though. If Hale needs a rest, though, or would benefit from one it could be a straight swap. I'd love to see the reaction if we had Hale as an out with (rested) against his name.
