Highest Crowds at Colonial...

It will be interesting to see what the Australia / British Lions Rugby game attracts in a couple of weeks time given there will not as many special interest groups involved that will hamper attendances.

This game is already a sell out.

If you want any data on attendances or match results go to the following website, absolutely fantastic for settling arguments.

Would you believe someone on the Essendon FC forum told me about it! I'm not sure who did it but I do notice a certain Mr. Ripper's name lurking in the credits...perhaps he can give you more on it.

Either way, any footy fan should have that website bookmarked!

Wow !

Mr Ripper - who is the legendary grouse dude who is responsible for "AFL Tables"

It is a an absolutely no-brainer that one - must be a required bookmark for anyone even remotely interested in footy.

cheers

The Wallabies/Lions Test is a sell-out (it sold out in 18 minutes)
that will mean 52,000 should attend.......does Colonial hold 52,000 or does anyone know the capacity for that ground.

Interesting too is the fact that another 2,000 tickets (standing room) were sold out in a few minutes last Thurs. for the same Test.

Boy I can't wait to go!!! Its going to be absolutely fantastic. The atmosphere at rugby tests is somethig to behold guys...if you get a chance, get to one. Rugby is a sensational game...give it a try. Don;t rubbish the game so much people.!!

Cheers.

According the the Official AFL guidebook the capacity of Docklands is 52,000. However, Ian Collins recently claimed before the Essendon v Hawthorn match that with restricted viewing and standing room the actual capacity is 57,000, which means 7,000 people didn't turn up to the Round 9 match!

I think 52,000 is closer to the mark - the British Lions match will be an interesting indication.

No it doesn't, as many of those seats are medallion club members, not direct ticket sales.

Which is your game Ms.Storm? Rugby or League??

Having lived up north for a couple years, I suprisingly found out how different both games are, and that nobody who follows league, will watch rugby. (Rugby is their term for union, league is league.). I was suprised, then one weekend the Lions, Broncos and Reds played, the 3 codes, and all 3 got good crowds. It just proved that up there all 3 codes are independent of each other, and there arnt many people who switch between them, especially league and rugby.

For me, they are both boring, it just has suprised me to find somebody who likes them both. You should hear the rugby boys bag the league "povo's" while the league fans give it to the rugby 'yuppies." There was a huge split years ago Im told which is obviously behind the hatred between the codes.

I got tix to a 3rd league Origen game a couple years ago and we left at half time. Some say rugby's a bit better - but Im not gonna take that risk!!

Yep spot on. Only 14,000 went on sale and although it was reported as being sold out in eighteen minutes it was actually more like half an hour. Seeing as the rest were for Victorian rugby clubs, ARU corporates, Lions touring party and associated corporates etc there is no guarantee of 52,000.

I managed to get standing room but at least I know the atmosphere will be better and the crowd bigger than when the Wallabies played the Springboks there last year. Now the question that remain is are the Lions just flat track bullies? After all they couldn't beat Australia A :D

Weird piece of trivia that Hawthorn hold the crowd record for 2 AFL stadiums in melbourne (I know Collingwood and Essendon were involved too, of course. Shows that hawthorn have some drawing power - even if it as the away team

PS I think a christian revivalist meeting involving Eddie Mcguire (with his catholic hat on) drew over 70,000 to colonial, and 135,000 attended a similar thing at the MCG a few years back. AFL, medallion and MCC members obviously not invited so no empty seats

I might make one list for all games and another for just home & away. Plus I should've made it clear that finals weren't included in that particular list.

Yeah, Paul, simply pathetic not having that:D

In all seriousness, fantastic site! How long did it take to compile?

In that web-site, there are two columns under the win-loss records section that say HF and HA.

Die anyone know what these stand for?

Hundred's For and Against - can't you read my mind?

On and off since 1995. The scores come from the "Every Game Ever Played" books, which saved me having to squint at microfilmed newspapers for months - which is what I did with the Rugby League section. A lot of typing none the less.

Smokin...
Perhaps I may be a little different in the fact that I love afl/league and union and of course soccer.

I would say many league lovers hate union and vice versa...but many also like BOTH.

If this particular question is ever brought up say at the Storm games, you get varying answers..some like only one code and others like both.

Its a changing world..thank goodness. Everyone is different.
I love sport and especially footy...and footy to me is afl/league/union/soccer and I follow all these sports.
I follow the Demons here in Melbourne and the Storm too.
Go to as many Wallabies games as I can, see some local rugby if I can and some local soccer.
Would dearly love a Super 12 team here in Melbourne and a soccer team to follow...I followed Carlton SC before their demise..and when we migrated here from overseas, my family followed soccer.

Jethro,
I stick by afl and support afl if someone kicks its butt elsewhere, as I do on this board for the Storm and union but what erks me here in Melbourne, is the fact that only afl gets a good run, not other footy, whereas in Sydney and Brisbane, afl. gets a more responsive run by media and press; take 2ue for instance they broadcast Swans games, give out ALL AFL SCORES, TALK AFL, THERE IS NO WAY 3AW ARE NEARLY AS RECEPTIVE. towards other footy codes. Probably thats why I get on my high horse some times!
Cheers.
