With embarrassing gaffe after embarrassing gaffe seemingly dogging Australia's Shrek, I think there is a way out for him.
A national housing policy.
So here is what would happen.
We start with the thousands of homeless people who sleep on our streets. Most of them are there as they have no place to go, thanks to drugs, domestic violence and abandonment. Only a small percentage are there by choice.
What Federal and State Governments should do is not e down all the empty buildings in our cities and regional centres. Whatever is found is then fitted out with beds, shower and toilet facilities and so on. If you give the homeless a safe place to live you give them a chance and some hope.
Then we look at the ridiculous demand for public housing and rental properties. It seems everywhere you go, there are very long waiting lists.
Here's an idea..instead of developers charging $150K-$300k for blocks of land for people to build on, the Governments keep that land, build on it themselves and decree on ly those on rental waiting lists and public housing waiting lists get access.
