Vic How would you rate Daniel Andrews' performance as Victorian Premier? - Part 3

The "hints of bungling" from the last week was (partly) because Border Force (who are supposed to be responsible for quarantine) sent a list of supposed Terminal 4 passengers which included a bunch of people from other terminals. Everytime I think Quarantine should just be handed to the feds, they remind us of why they shouldn't be allowed near anything health-related.

I think luck has been a huge factor in the leaky hotel quarantine "systems" across the country. The difference between a housemate/partner who works at the coffee place at the airport instead of some non-public place is the difference between a lockdown and no lockdown this week.
Yet ABF has nothing to do with T4 so that is either wrong or the Vic Govt screwed up its responsibilities in T4 and were hoping that the Fed's could help somewhere.

Which program? I saw on insiders the claim made that perhaps there is no political appetite to allow Australians to return home, but that one (scomo should have “forced” everyone home) is news to me (and incredibly stupid - where would the magical quarantine have happened? )

It's interesting when people say if we had the opposition in charge in Victoria it'd be left to run wild and we'd have had millions infected and hundreds of thousands dead. Yet if we had the opposition in Australia we'd be taking in more returned travelers (The opposite of what Dan wants) and everyone would be forced to be vaccinated with a vaccine already that had never gained any formal approval.

With apologies to Clarke and Dawe, you can't just tow quarantine outside the community. Whether its State or Commonwealth, it would mostly likely be the same facilities and the same type of program.

But then you have to deal with Birds
(beat)
And Fish
(beat)

And 20,000 gallons of crude oil

And a Fire.

For dandemic the front fell off a long time ago and he's been too arrogant, egotistical and narcissistic to let somebody else take the reigns

I know Neil Mitchell can be considered a bit right on the political spectrum but he is completely right about everything he says.

Mitchell just calling it as it is.

The Govt has not learnt anything from last year, Andrews is lying

This Govt can no longer be trusted with handling this issue, doesn't understand the impact it's having on businesses and people, and does not take accountability for its failures.

If Andrews extends this lockdown, I fear for what may happen next

Collective competency is always greater than collective conservatism.

The “go hard go early” ethos has merit if you’re a fearful organisation with no confidence in your systems.

Even allowing for this “circuit breaker”, as Victorians we all just now know there’s another two weeks of an economically savage lockdown coming, even if numbers are low. Due to conservatism / softness.

Yet Gladys has just eased NSW through a tough spot like a superstar...

* The last point is bullshit on the list as the other states don’t need the SOE to make health calls.

that ******* Church open today burn it down with all the idiots inside

florist's shouldn't be essential shut the campaigners down

call in the military roll tanks down Bourke street

******* idiots
Here here!

Unprecedented times call for an unprecedented solution- and here's mine.
Everyone who gets tested positive for COVID-19 is thrown into a gas chamber.

Look I know it sounds a bit much at first, but think about it: you gonna risk certain death by not wearing a mask?
It would certainly make me reconsider sitting down to three course of dessert in a poorly-ventilated restaurant.

like morrison and the low life womaniser heydon you mean. at least coate has credibility.
Coates presided over a multi million dollar Kangaroo Court Inquiry that resembled a fart in a crowded lift due to no one owning up to it. Peta Credlin advised Coates how she could gain the truth but despite the hints given no specific follow up action was taken. Great credibility if you are a Dan Fan.

1 week after getting back from a 6 week trip around Australia, locked down again :poo:

How many times can other states get lucky and Victoria not to say that it may not actually be luck?

Exactly! It's not luck in NSW, today was the first time since the pandemic began where they have reached 28 days in a row without local transmission. Despite the continual cases they've had during that time, their housing of the vast majority of returned travelers, their occasional leaks in hotel quarantine, they've never let it get out of control and be forced into a widespread lockdown. And for the majority of that time, without the need for any additional mandates regarding masks, or closing hospitality for seated service.

That's the best part of the past 12 months, and during that time they've handled and contained significant outbreaks, the Crossroads hotel outbreak (which came as a direct result of the hotel quarantine breaches in Victoria in May 2020) and the Avalon cluster (source still and probably forever unknown).

They clearly have the best systems in place and a capable CHO (Chant), contact tracing head (Murray), and department in general. Additionally their CHO has always had the authority to make and take decisions, something which Sutton complained about (e.g. not being named the emergency controller, getting completely cut out of the quarantine program setup).

NSW have used a web based reporting and contact tracing tool since as early as 2005. It was originally known as NetEpi and it sounds like they've reviewed and built on what worked with it and improved on the parts that didn't work over the past 16 years (particularly after the 2009 H1N1 flu).
Contrast that with Victoria, who were still using fax and telephone in late 2020.

The following is from 2010 https://www.publish.csiro.au/NB/pdf/NBv21n2

"The NetEpi tool facilitated communication about cases between laboratories, PHUs and the Department of Health. The ability to access NetEpi independently of the NSW Health computer network was compatible with operations that extended almost around the clock for several weeks, allowing operations to continue from home or when computer networks were down (provided remote broadband facilities were available).

In most instances, results were entered at the laboratory, allowing PHU staff to provide them to cases and contacts under investigation more rapidly than relying on faxes or telephone calls from the laboratory.
NetEpi was invaluable in providing a central repository of data about the numbers of cases and contacts and their status, enabling the public health network near real-time information to assist in their management and to monitor the evolution of the pandemic in NSW
.

Conclusions and lessons learned After years of planning for an influenza pandemic, the lessons learned from this response will be important to incorporate when these plans are revised. These are:
A web-based multi-user access database with both reporting and case management capacity is essential. NetEpi has the capacity to fulfil this role. The number of staff with the capability to manage and adapt such outbreak tools should be increased, perhaps through developing skills across the network

They took the lessons from H1N1 and implemented them. They had the institutional and operational knowledge to respond immediately when Covid hit. It's not dumb luck, they've had the foresight and systems ready to go for this exact eventuality.

Consider that for a minute, do you think given the "proper" sort of treatment you could be turned gay?
Ive said before here that they are only attempting 'aversion' therapy using negative reinforcement techniques.
This can acheive limited success by replacing desire with fear- hook your packet of smokes up to a car battery and after enough shocks you might find it easier to do without a ciggie.

'Conversion' is a very different thing.
If such a thing IS possible (Straight- Gay or Gay- Straight) then the therapy would need to start with a handful of party pills and the finalists of the respective adult video awards.

Good

We need to be thankful Dan was on holidays when the Black Rock cluster happened in early January so he didn’t have the chance to lock us down for a few weeks back then. Instead Jacinta Allen played it competently.

If only he was on holidays still...

:D

You honestly think he found out about the cluster when got back to the office and read the typed intra-office memos in his In Tray?

They can also print these up and distribute them. Even though the first two points are outright fabrications.

Of course not. But obviously his missus wouldn’t let him cut his holiday short and he found it tough to take control and order a lockdown away from Spring St.

You’ve heard of mobile phones, yeah?

Honestly we should look to see if net epi can be expanded into other states. Not “create same process “ but just expand it so the data is available across state borders.
