How else would you stop an actively infectious person (think post covid for something without a vaccine) from moving about? I recall an episode of new Amsterdam (yes I know tv) where ny health department imposed quarantine on a couple of cast members (can’t recall the disease? Mumps maybe)

Was it due to State governments having to overreach in their roles and do something that all of them are unequipped for? How many leaks did we have? Why was an Island nation not getting on the front foot protecting our borders (The Kiwi government did the same thing with their laziness to build facilities too)

How long do you think it would have taken the federal government to construct quarantine facilities in every state? Where would they get the staff from, other than stripping state health facilities?
Do you know how many people successfully completed hotel quarantine? Hundreds of thousands. How many leaks? Except for Victoria, remarkably few. Breaches were bound to occur anywhere, no matter who was running it (except Victoria. Um, weather conditions??? ). People are people, imperfect, they make mistakes, don’t follow rules, tell porkies (pizza boxes, anybody?), aren’t suitable for their roles, etc etc.

The outbreak in Sydney wasn’t an HQ leak, but brought about by one of those mentioned above, someone who couldn’t follow rules.

“The virus” didn’t return, Delta did, far more virulent than the Alpha strain which we had under control. Brought in by “citizens” who the bleeding hearts insisted must be allowed to return to Australia from the country being devastated by that variant, even though the PM banned incoming flights from India for some weeks. Our borders were locked early, no one had a crystal ball and could foresee what would happen. China and the UN were furious with us, then everyone followed suit while China continued to export the virus far and wide.
I don’t blame anyone for the Delta outbreaks, they were going to happen no matter what. We are still doing so much better than the rest of the world.

The government says hotel quarantine is ‘serving Australia very well’. But if you look at the leaks as a proportion of COVID-positive returnees, it’s a different story.
