Vic How would you rate Daniel Andrews' performance as Victorian Premier? - Part 7

I think youre missing the original context. This was in reply to Andrews needing focus groups due to non-compliance and people spreading misinformation.

To which I then asked - why was Victoria the only state requiring this then? Was Victoria the only state which had non-compliance and rule breakers?
No, of course not. Buy NSW and Victoria were the largest and most effected states.

I'd hope and expect the Gladys government was doing the same.

Let me tell you a secret: never, ever go to an election promising to lower electricity prices. It's a promise you'll have nothing to do with keeping or not.
Well your mate is making a goose of himself by doing the media rounds and spreading the very obvious lie that Victorians pay the most for electricity.

That kind of bold faced bullshitting isn't going to improve the Liberals image when Victoria still very clearly has the lowest power prices on the Eastern Seaboard.

5 quotes for me in quick succession. Thanks mate ;)

Well, that’s what’s been alleged by Redlich, nobody coming out other than Dan denying it, so I think it’s a decent enough basis to bring it up on the Daniel Andrews thread? i don’t think this is something to just ignore because you think we’ve been here before.

I’d love to see some more concrete evidence from Redlich in order to get heads rolling. Time will tell I guess.
And nothing of substance was revealed.

'Victoria, too, looks set to see a jump in retail power prices, with a draft determination on that state’s Default Offer on Wednesday forecasting a $426 increase in “typical” annual bills for residential customers and a $1,403 increase for small business.'

“The proposed increases to the Victorian Default Offer reflect a year of price volatility in the energy market … and are are in keeping with proposed default market offer increases announced in other jurisdictions today,” said Essential Services Commission chair, Kate Symons, in a statement.

“We understand the impacts on consumers amid a broader environment of cost-of-living concerns and we urge Victorians to take advantage of government support programs offering power price relief,” she said.

In Victoria, around 400,000 residential and 55,000 small businesses customers are currently on the state’s Default Offer, which also acts as a cap for the approximately 150,000 consumers in embedded networks, like apartment buildings and shopping centres.

The ESC’s Symons says that state’s draft decision does not directly impact the roughly 85 per cent of customers on retail market offers and all Victorians are encouraged to shop around to find the best deal for them.
All states expect a significant increase on the default offer, yet Victoria will continue to have lower prices than NSW, Queensland and South Australia.

In the medium to long term, it also has the best outlook for lower power prices with a return of the SEC and significant investment in new generation already on the books.

They were supposed to be bringing the cost of living down, not seeing it jump higher!

Governments suck!

Living in the Latrobe Valley, no one here holds a candle for the return of the SEC.
Bracks didnt do it, nor did Brumby.

maybe. but i'm just pleased it'll be (hopefully) out of the hands of the rapacious private retailers. the commonly held view ( although decreasing) that private enterprise does it better and cheaper is, and has always been, utter bullshit.

Rapacious you say:
review-arrangements-failed-energy-retailers-contracts-commences

Just another example of the east coast energy **** up with State Governments looking to the Feds to pick up the responsibility for their inaction.

So privatisation has failed?

Good, I'm glad we all agree.

It's time for the state to provide an alternative to price gouging private monopolies.

In Victoria the State did not privatise its responsibility for power.
Its failure to follow the lead of the WA ALP Government in 2005 post dated the privatisation in Victoria.

I'm glad Dan at least had the courage to call out the event and the hateful people present.

Hopefully we see some meaningful action on broadening the ban on Nazi symbology around German lines or a keener focus on disrupting neo-Nazi groups.

VicPol standing around like an honour guard is definitely sub optimal and absolutely makes the public uneasy. There's an opportunity here to nip this in the bud, hopefully it doesn't go to waste.

Maybe he should be calling out his own police force for protecting the nazis.

He won't though.

Or you know for assaulting the people protesting the nazis.

He won't do that either though.

He does love an empty platitude on social media though

The nazis weren't doing anything illegal so police had no choice other than to protect them from counter-protesters. I think Dan played this one ok.

Dude they're ****ing nazis walking the streets and saluting and calling all gay people pedophiles.

If you think protecting nazis from the people they are targeting is playing it well.....

I see no better alternative. If the nazis broke laws, arrest them. If they didn't, they have every right to hold a peaceful rally/protest. If laws need changing, that's a different issue.

No, police can just stand by, allow counter protestors to throw verbal abuse (the same things that the original neo nazi marchers are doing - unless you are suggesting they marched in silence) but intervene IF one group moves to physically engage the other.
I don't think it justified police grabbing at counter protestors and pushing them (re the vision of Andy Meddick)

Verbal sparring is fine. It's not unusual to see police stand between opposing factions/protest groups to separate them.

I've only read news articles. Do you have a link to the footage?

It was posted earlier I think (though maybe in another thread) will try to find it

We know what the Nazi's end game is. Why should we tolerate that?
