Hilarious....

The media have been really friendly, given Andrews plenty of air time, and have done an appalling job of holding him accountable

Anyone who's attacked him have ben labelled RWNJ's, Nazi's and all sorts of other rubbish.

Guess these "journalists" don't want to get Andrews off side in case they get banned from the pressers.

I guess what the Guardian is saying is they want to be a point of difference to both the Herald-Sun and the Age in which the latter has lurched to the right under Costello.

Matthew Guy got the same treatment in the Guardian the very next day.

So The Guardian was good... for one day.
Nah if they were any good they wouldn't give any platform to a man who ran an election campaign on a racist attack on Africans.

This doesn't seem particularly democratic
Bracks was a pretty dodgy operator behind the scenes by all accounts. I don't think the full reasons behind his abrupt resignation were ever released (only ever hinted at)

Pretty poor by every government since not to change the policy though

Which accounts?

Fundraisers & party hacks. Probably par for the course but I don't think leaders ever really wake up one day and just 'decide to spend more time with the family'

Agree. Honestly have no idea on Bracks, so can't comment on that.

People focus on the corruption, drugs, and sex reason for the "I want to spend more time with the family", but a surprising number are indirectly for that reason. By that I mean they have been given the ultimatum, one more term and the marriage is over.

Politics is a pretty lonely place to be for a.partner.

Yeah, its the problem with it will get fixed if we vote the other party in next time, or even the campaign promise of we will fix it once we are in

It usually doesn't get fixed because it is usually of benefit to the party in power / too popular with the donors

VicPol bobs up again:
  • Victoria Police has been under increasing scrutiny over high-profile organisational and systemic failures.
  • The Age on Wednesday revealed two directors of the state’s police union allegedly plotted to sabotage an internal corruption investigation by undermining potential witnesses.
  • IBAC * investigates relatively few police misconduct cases due to resourcing and legislative limits, leaving the bulk of probes with Victoria Police’s Professional Standards Command.

* Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission | IBAC

yeah its never a good idea for the cops to investigate themselves but that is what is happening in Vic, not just in Vic, Queensland are pretty good at it, NT have an "internal investigation" going on Rolfe currently

Dan's shown no appetite for butting heads with the cops, he's given them way more money and power while he has been in change, arrest rates are up, a lot of people are in jail because of the new bail conditions, it's pretty ****ed

but also I don't know that any politician in Vic would have the guts to go up against VicPol

That’s shocking but not surprising. Although funny to see the Greens member complaining given they’ve supported everything this government has done.
That's not accurate

Perhaps in Eddie's mind voting with the Government on anything is the same as supporting everything Andrews has ever done, something that is clearly not true

So what have they blocked? The government hasn’t passed anything in this term without the Greens support…

They even supported version 1 of Dans pandemic laws.

For those who might not know, consideration in detail of a bill (known also as the "committee stage") takes place between the second reading and the third reading of a bill.

First reading is the introduction of the bill, essentially the first time the parliament sees it. After this, it sits on the notice paper for a little while.

Second reading is where the Minister makes their introductory speech, and then the MPs each get their go (depending on time) talking generally about the bill. At the end of this stage there is a vote.

Normally in the lower house, it then goes straight to the third reading, which is usually mere process. But when the bill is considered in detail, each clause of the bill is debated, and members can ask the responsible Minister open ended questions about any aspect or possible consequence of that clause. Also, at this stage, amendments to individual clauses can be proposed and voted on in turn.

This happens in the Legislative Council where the government does not hold a majority. It's part of the reason you hear about long, late-night sittings in the Upper House much more often than in the lower house. The time for questions is basically unlimited and relevance has a very broad definition.

So the issue that the opposition have is that their lower house MPs haven't been able to grand stand and get their mugs on TV.

It will be interesting to see the tangents they'll go on this Puffing Billy Bill.
