Very good from you Danny boy!

Both him and Dom will be a "no" on this.

For all of Andrews alleged personality quirks, he seems to both have a capacity for empathy and to be in touch with what regular people think, which he prioritises over political expediency or the ruling media/political class.

Probably I imagine, why the press hate him so vehemently.

We used to have 3 zones.

But yeah that was the bullshit justification for doing what they did way back when.

My personal view is public transport should be free anyway
It's not quite a "bullshit justification", the reasoning was sound, but the execution was poor.

They partnered with a contractor, later purchased by NTT, which services some of the Japanese rail lines. They specifically use a distance based/tiered fare structure as well. But never eliminated a ticketed system and used (at the time) lower tech but more responsive readers.

The reasoning for entering into the contract they did was our network is do complicated we need a bespoke solution.

They had multiple better options than what they chose to do.

One of which was an overhaul of the zones and fares as part of changing to a more modern ticketing system.

Look, I agree with this.

PTV was not a great government department by any means. Leadership were belligerent and antagonistic to whatever party was in power, which severely complicated things, see integration with google maps saga.

The execution of Myki was horrific, but so far Andrews PT credentials haven't included any boondoggles. So I think given budget constraints, they should be able to sort this one out. Particularly because it is no longer new tech.

Do we think Pell would have wanted a state funeral in Victoria? He’s in the place he wants to be
I don't give a shit what he wants

I wonder if the inability to police compliance is a reason not to allow credit cards to be used. Would PTV officers be able to validate people's credit cards to verify that they have tapped on?

I don't see why not. If it registers a number when tapping on and then charges when you tap off, then the system would have a database of cards that are active and waiting to close.

If the number isn't on the system then they didn't tap on.

There might be an issue with there not being a connection in tunnels and elsewhere... but come on, its 2023. That infrastructure should already be there for passengers.

There’d be amendments to privacy law I suppose but it’s not like it hasn’t been done elsewhere

Got a bit of a feeling that Jacinda Arden's resignation as NZ PM won't be the last time a political leader quits before an election.
Reckon Daniel Andrews will follow suit by announcing his retirement by November this year, to give Jacinta Allen at least 3 years to be ready for the 2026 election as Premier of Victoria.

Not a chance in hell. There is more chance of North Melbourne winning a premiership before Dan would ever resign.

Glad we have a facility for extreme events like housing flood victims - that's a lot of homeless people otherwise. Great work again, Daniel :)
Exactly.

Desperate people commit crime, shocking. It's one or two wrondoers, versus the hundreds maybe thousands of ordinary people that will end up sadly having to use the facility for shelter as the fires and floods continue.

We should be building more emergency and state run accommodation, not less.

Surprised the election thread hasn't already been created
The cookers haven't agreed on what name Dan will be called this time. I'm going to guess Druggy Dan, as legalised cannabis is everywhere and 80% of the population are enjoying it, and the same 20% are complaining about everything still.

My understanding on how London works with contact less is when A card is inspected the it flags in the Oyster System the card was inspected. At the end of the day when they transact the fares it will bull the card based on where it was touched in and out. If it comes up that there was no touch in and will charge a penalty fare.

We obviously don't have penalty fares so we will have to do something different

That would be true. If you volunteered your credit card via swipe on you are not an anonymous fare dodger.
I guess almost all London stations have ticket barriers though

I suppose if you’ve been challenged on a train and claim you touched with a cc that’s the issue
