Dan will cut back health care (or just not spend the $$$ he's been promising to spend over the last 2 years) since the pandemic is over. That'll save some $$$.

Out of cash. So (if we are prepared to be ethically horrible)

• recognition that everyone dies
• recognition that most health care expenses come in the last year of life
• that for many (not all) people in aged care, that last year of life is associated with pain, dementia, loneliness
• so an expansion of the VAD legislation…. Would open up bed access and reduce ambulance demand in the medium term…

Like I said ethically bankrupt but from a budget perspective…

I will also add that if the cuts happen at what I call the over resourced tertiaries to bring their staffing into line with what my outer metro hospital has (and bring some of the other outer metros into line i'm all for it)

• our ED is considered "well staffed" if it has 25 nurses on shift. When we often have 90+ in the ED, and see roughly 300-320 a day most days
• while another outer metro ED has 44 nurses (which apparently includes SSU, so ok we can add another 8 to my list). This ED I think sees 250 a day
• and while I don't know the staffing at a certain inner city hospital run by a charitable group, they see 140/day according to the VAHI data

The obvious candidate to delay the start of is SRL East, which is still out for tender.

With the exception of NEL, none of the MRPV road projects slated to start within the next five years are more than $50m contracts and NEL will not get cut.

the level crossing removal program could be looked at .... understand each project is individually costed so the disruption and optics would be more localised and less visible .... cost cutting here would help manage the inevitable doom and gloom coverage by an msm that looks increasingly desperate to sling mud at andrews

I think it's an incorrect conclusion drawn from the largest MARL package, the station at the airport, not making progression like the rest of the packages two of which are likely to be signed very soon. And given that MARL is partially federally funded, it's more likely to be due to disagreements in the location and configuration of the airport station instead of budget crisis. Same with Geelong Fast Rail - also partially federally funded.

The newspaper article said that Chalmers spoke to all the states and told them to cut back on infrastructure projects, so projects that are joint federally funded are most likely to be cut or put on hold.

Cutting SRL would be the most sensible if they really wanted to save money as it’s going to be by far the most expensive, but that one seems to be Dans pet project so it’s safe.

'Ibac anti-corruption investigation findings involving Health Workers Union and Victorian government to be released Wednesday

Findings from an anti-corruption inquiry investigation involving Victoria’s premier, Daniel Andrews, will be made public later this week.

Guardian Australia understands members of parliament were informed on Monday that the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission’s (Ibac) Operation Daintree investigation will be released on Wednesday.

The investigation is centred upon grants worth $3.4m, which were awarded by the Andrews government to the Health Workers Union (HWU) on the eve of the 2018 state election. It is understood interactions between the union and members of former health minister, Jill Hennessy’s, staff and the premier’s office were central to the investigation.

Ibac went to court to prevent the publication of draft findings in the weeks leading up to last year’s state election, although a version of the story was published by both the Age and Herald Sun.'
