Kicked out of parliament and all benefits they have coming there way taken off them would be my choice.

i could not agree more.

link to the impacts of corruption as defined by ibac (not that you don't know, just a reference as to what ibac says they are to protect us, Victorians, from)

can you think of a country or place where action was taken with a corrupt politician and what was the action?

No it never happens, as all politicians are only interested in self preservation, so talk a big game but are not prepared to have higher standards of behaviour, or rules and policies in place, because they know it would come back to bite them. For all the bluster about Dan, the Libs had time when they were in power to make a change to standards and behaviours but did zero.

If they're convicted or have adverse findings, they should get the boot.

This is resting in what professional politicians have defined for themselves as a grey area of corruption. Where there's no way they can be found to be corrupt, but most people with the details think they are.

Therefore, the ballot box would be the only place to fix it, since we couldn't expect a Govt of the day to pass legislation which would result in itself being found guilty of corruption.

It's why Federal Labor probably won a lot of votes campaigning on IBAC. And also why the Teals stole a lot of Liberal seats.

It’s staggering that they have such a long leash. What was done, is clearly corrupt in some capacity. This grey area is a joke.

just get the boot? what about jail time, financial penalties, super?

ABC having a swing too. Let’s stop pretending it’s just the same right wing media at fault hey.

Have you ever seen a far leftie interviewed on the ABC? If yes, provide some examples.

They interview the war mongering far right all the time. They put them on Insiders, Drum, QandA. Ask yourself, why aren’t they platforming the far left?

But will federal Labor go through with IBAC, and have it wide ranging or only selective.

Well let’s start here, what politicians in Australia, would you classify as lefty’s?

And..

What about what they write about? I see them as balanced in comparison to a herald sun or the age. Im not stupid, i can clearly see the biased and harsh views from the latter in comparison to ABC.

The Greens are not as extreme left as One Nation are extreme right. The Greens are more like the Nats.

Animal Justice and Legalise Cannabis would be the most "left" parties in Victoria. Federally, the left is so fractured that they never win seats, mostly preferencing to the Greens.

I think the Greens get their fair share of time on the ABC. Not sure who else they could ask from the political spectrum

But they often ask the Business Council and IPA people onto the show, but rarely the Socialist Alternative.

You know when IBAC will finally get some teeth:

When Andrews decides to retire ( Spend more time with the family but really cashes in with consultancy) and he makes the legislation non retrospectively.

i.e cant look at his time in the top job.

You are further left than Animal Justice party but you cant see it.
The ABC don't have the Socialist Alternative on because a) they can't example their policies, b) the policies they can explain reveals that everyone knows those policies will screw everyone.

In an ideal world, all three levels of Government would have one.
At a Federal level Labor have a lot to gain via an IBAC given some of the shady dealings of some of the more prominent Libs.
Labor probably only loses a couple of backbenchers.

I don't have an issue with the IPA comp, but the Business Council is a peak body and often makes news. The comp there is the ACTU.

The new Animal Justice Party MLC has a regular spot on ABC mornings.

All of them appear to be interviewed on the ABC more than Daniel Andrews.

so taking everything we know about corruption, it's effect on society and governance, a corrupt politician should not be in government at the very least?

It is fertile ground for an opposition to ride into government on. I remember when Geoff Shaw's Ford Territory was the biggest issue in the state.

But I don't think it's totally resolvable. I think a future Government will feel entitled to use those same IBAC gaps to find comfort in their conduct.

IBAC, who did an extensive review of it said it was neither corruption, nor criminal.
And you are not paying attention if you still think the abc has decent coverage.
It's not corruption has been taken, sorry. Suggest trying scomo, or some of the wonderful incomplete projects.
  • landslide election
  • look at liberal
  • scomo
  • jeff kennett
  • crossing removals and other incomplete projects
  • it's not corruption
  • usa
  • catholicism
  • andrews is still the greatest

Possibly corruption will always be an issue, but does that mean a society should turn a blind eye to it? Should gaps be closed? Should corrupt politicians be allowed to have any position or influence in parliament?

I’d have thought the reverse would be even more so.
Conservatives have been sooking about Andrews forever now and it all comes to very little doesn’t it? Not ideal, but think you’ll find plenty of people can live with this level of ‘fast and loose’ if they get good governing, and they do in Victoria.
