Vic How would you rate Daniel Andrews' performance as Victorian Premier? - Part 7

No not simple. Think back to may/ June 2020. The other states who also did lockdown to suppress the curve manage to arse (deliberate word choice) their way into elimination. We never get to that. Other states are imposing hard borders on Victoria. What do you do? Do you accept ongoing hard borders by keeping the stage 2-3 lockdown or do you try to eliminate to rejoin the country?
One reason for huge numbers was the failure of the hotel quarantine.
Andrews sat back and watched other states do it right but he was not going to back down.
His stubborn ignorance led to your world record lockdown.

NSW - even after the Ruby Princess debacle - changed how they did things

In SA we got locked down for 4 days because of a pizza box

I’m not saying there wasn’t ridiculous-ness in other states but the other premiers - apart from McGowan whose economy simply jogged on because of mining - saw the damage that was being done
and took the calculated risk to open up.

It saved thousands of businesses in SA

Then find another one to refute it
OK, this one is not a study but an analysis of covid deaths + rate of vaccination + reopening (as of May 2023)

THis one is an article about a book on the topic (June 2022)

The book rates New Zealand and Senegal as the best; though the article on the book claims Australia aimed for elimination - we didn't, we aimed for suppression, arsed into elimination everywhere but Victoria. Book states Sweden approach "gamble which did not pay off"

I believe we had issues due to the apartment blocks (the ones that got locked down) - in that these were low income people whose work was face to face + high density housing - before hotel Q failures (think the hotel Q failures were more prominently the reason later - happy to be corrected)

Why do these so called conservatives only have it in for Andrews?
Haha! Exactly!!

I swear that Dan's "stern-yet-reasonable-Dad" style performances in a presser that has the effect of a political 'three card trick' to those stupid enough to fall for it, has covered up a litany of demonstrably poor performances that are either incompetent, corrupt or a combination of the two.

Then we get told that any criticism of Dan is a result of RWNJ conservative agenda, including.....wait for it.....the AB flipping C!!!

JFC, how many times do you people need to be told that Andrews didn't need the votes?
Judge Judy Eye Roll GIF

He had a 6.2% swing against him as it was.

A semi-competent opposition would have won.

Labor fans seem to want to say it was a huge endorsement of him, but really, people clearly dislike him, but had nowhere else to go.

Looks like an interesting read. Will do so when I get a chance but the cursory glance I just gave it, to me , summed up the whole situation where leaders failed.

“For one, Sridhar changes her thinking in response to changing evidence. As an example, she updated her analysis of the cost and benefits of school closures as more data came in showing the developmental harm closures caused to children and the limited risk of COVID-19 transmissions from schools.”

…failure to adapt

Adaption is also difficult (not arguing against the need) when the public are not easily adaptable (in terms of messaging) - and active hostility from sections of media determined to undermine.

Leaders should care 2/5th’s of FA with regards the media.
That’s half the problem.

meaning more the media is the tool by which communication comes out through, and so a hostile media will act to sabotage that message.

And on the eve of the 2022 election in shifting the swimming from Kardinia Park in the safe seat of Geelong to Armstrong Creek in a marginal seat Labor recorded a record swing to it completely against all trends.

As Chip Le Grand wrote, Dan’s reasons for wanting the 2026 were completely different to those of other stakeholders. He blatantly used them as nothing more than a political toy. You have to wonder whether by then Dan had already made his mind up the Games would never proceed…

State the message clearly and and answer the questions posed truthfully and the message gets through.

You should change your name to Easter Bunny
So if a press conference is telecast live , how is it sabotaged ?
Problem is politicians like Andrews not only lie, but arc up when confronted by a suspicious media.
Look how Albanese’s message - whatever it was - got totally lost in the Fordham interview
because the fool has no idea what even he’s on about anymore.

You should go buy some tin foil if you refuse to believe what your eyes and ears tell you.

I go back to a presser held during the election- held at northern hospital, day after the herald sun publishes an article basically damning northern (a mix of truth and fabrication but eh herald sim what do you expect) Dan is there to announce PET scanners but all the questions are about a ****ing pissant cyclist

Did he answer the questions or did he obfuscate?

If you are truthful all facts are friendly.

The point being the questions were stupid and irrelevant and could have been much more damaging had they focused on the hospital

What is an example of one of these stupid questions ?
I don’t recall the specific presser
