Read the transcripts...they are available online as is the presiding judges statement which heavily supported the victims statements.
It was a verdict of convenience and very much of it's time.
I would love to see the defendant re-tried today.

Pell's situation was extremely similar with the position of the defendant taking precedent over the rights of the victims in both cases.
You make of that exactly what is implied.
