Im pretty certain Hart will be missing too ;)

May give Stevens another stay of execution.

Its getting late & the memory is going !!
In: Porplyzia, Torney?
Out: S.Stevens, Hart

Its definately time for Maric. Bring him in to share the ruck duties with Clarke and then move Biglands to the foward line permanently. If this doesn't work, drop Clarke and bring in Maric to share the ruck duties with Biglands.

The negatives far outweith the positives with Clarke. Everyone raves about him being the best tap ruckman blah blah blah, yet he comes in at around 7th or 8th for hitouts when campared to other ruckman. I wonder where his 1 mark a game average rates him when compared to other ruckman.

Maric was pretty darn good for the Magpies on Saturday. His work around the ground has improved out of site, and he did a good job "dropping back into the hole" in defence in the last quarter. Would rather he stayed at the Pies for obvious reasons, but he needs to start getting some AFL experience before Clarke retires and/or Biglands gets injured/suspended. You wouldn't want him out there on his own just yet.

If Clarke or Biglands play a couple of poor games in a row then i'm all for Marics inclusion at there expense.

But not to drop Clarke on just last weeks effort as he was no orphan on the "those that went missing" list

I think we all miss Huddo not only for his ruckwork but for his 2nd & 3td efforts when the ball hits the ground.

Plus he was pretty good at clearances in fact was he not our number 1 last year until he got injured ?
He was definitely our #1 clearance man when he got injured and I think he may have also held onto that stat by seasons end.
I also think he led the team in hard ball gets.

Let's not panic after 1 game. Being there, I had a bad feeling it just wasn't going to be our day early in the game. Not only were our rucks dreadful, so was our whole midfield - we were comprehensively smashed in the stoppages.

As for the changes for this week. Hart out is obviously a given. IMO, McGregor must be rested against a pathetic Blues (I saw them get demolished by St Kilda at the G) - he is no good to us playing unfit & we need to get him right. This means Stevens should stay in the side. Would bring in JT & Maric.

I've been a long time defender of Clarke, but he was terrible against the Tigers, ordinary against the Kangas, unspectacular against Port (admittedly on a night not made for big guys), and reasonable against the Bulldogs (with their non-existant ruck division). It's not a one game phenomenon.

You have to start asking questions about our ruck division when 3 opposition ruckmen in the last 5 games have had arguably their best games of the year (Simmonds, Lade and Sandilands).

Clarke and Biglands have now played a few bad years in a row let alone a few bad games. Albeit we do see the occasional good game but not enough. At least Biglands is now stepping up to kick 1-2 goal every few games. But you play Clarke and his "1 mark a game average" and you are effectively playing with 17 men. Clarke may as well contest the ruck then walk across the boundary line and sit out the game until he is needed at the next ruck contest.

I don't know maybe we were spolit by having an around the ground ruckman of the calibre of Shaun Rehn.

It would be interesting to see how often in the last 2-3 years Clarke and/or Biglands have figured in our best players.
