Its Time For Trigg To Resign.

Team decision mate. And I can't anyway. Plus was done under their watch and if I decided to advocate it the key would be his willingness to respond to the issues he had left unresolved with them.
He really had every chance to keep himself from being banned.

I was just yanking your chain mate. It's all good.

The role of Rob Chapman and the Board was clearly outlined at the end of year NOTANAGM.

The Board did not believe it had a role in footy operations. This is very new age sports administration.

In the good old days the Chairman and Board members (mostly ex footballers) felt it was their divine right to provide "advice" to the CEO and Coach. As VFL/AFL Boards started to be filled with Corporates and Lawyers the focus of Boards turned to strategic initiatives and Corporate Sponsorships.

Chapman admitted at the NOTANAGM that the Board did not get into the nitty gritty of player contracts, footy operations etc. They would touch base with Triggy but a nod was as good as a wink to a blind horse. I suspect that a similar thing occurred at Essendon. David Evans and the Board were so busy working on the Taj Mahal that they failed to notice all the players had syringes sticking out of their stomachs.

Chapman also said they would re-examine their governance within the AFC and the role of the Board. The problem was that the Board didn't want to know the bad news and Triggy was happy to oblige ("it's a manageable risk"). Ultimately the problem occurred under Triggy's watch, the problem was never resolved, the Board were kept in the dark and Triggy disappeared to Paris when the rubber hit the road.

Horses mouth? I can't offer you indisputable objective proof. You either believe it or you don't. I said it here months ago, and now someone else has come out with it too.

If there was a full and frank account of our version of events on the public record I would be more inclined to believe it. As it is, I can't even be sure that this is our version of events, let alone the accuracy of that version of events.

In such a circumstance, I'm a little uncomfortable with assertions regarding what is the truth etc.

Couldn't care less whether he did or didn't try and have the agreement rescinded after the fact. He shouldn't have made the agreement in the first place. It's so bloody obvious it was a bad idea for a myriad of reasons. It's not like he's the work experience kid, he's an experienced CEO FFS, he should have known better. In doing so, he's potentially cost this club a tilt at a premiership in the next few years. He should be gone for that alone.

He DIDN'T make the agreement in the first place.

And this is equally bad, and there were shortfalls, and we were organising extra payments such as funelling club sponsor dollars to Tippett, hence the emails between Harper and the finance guy.

There's no point arguing because you're wrong.

There weren't shortfalls Carl.

What about the fact that you can't rescind and agreement after the other party has made a long term, binding commitment based upon it?

A very biased source no?

Biased? Well he's the only one that actually KNOWS what happened, unlike anyone in here.

Look, I get you guys are pissed he's still at the Club. He's damned lucky to still have his job. But the fact is - he does. So either you can whinge and moan about it constantly for however long, OR you can accept that a decision was made to keep him. He's paid his penalty, and he's done it really tough. How about you put aside your bias and anger and judge him on his performance when he returns. Everyone deserves a second chance. Not everyone gets that opportunity, but he has.

Well there are many other alternatives.

such as start a petition to have him removed.

anyone know how to do that?

An honourable man would have resigned by now!

Have you actually read the commissions findings which outline explicitly what we did?

Yes I have. They were somewhat ambiguous I thought. What I know is that we did not exceed our salary cap at any stage, but that we'd underwritten these payments to Kurt should he not be able to achieve that with Third Party agreements. We did not have to pay any of that to him as he was able to achieve that through various sources. Even if we had to pay them, we wouldn't have exceeded our salary cap. The fact that we'd underwritten to do so without including it in the TPP, was seen as a breach. That we were seen to be involved in some of these third party agreements, which while technically true, wasn't the whole story. We didn't actually organise them, but we did have some communication with those involved along the line of "We want to sponsor Tippett..." and us agreeing to it. We didn't instigate the extra payments, but we were seen to be involved, which you can't be. I believe this would happen at most clubs (see Visy/Carlton/
Judd).

The biggest issue, by far, was the contract involving Tippett as negotiated by Reid, and that's what we copped the biggest whack for.

Most commentators, and opposition supporters believe we got off very lightly. I believe our negotiated penalty served two purposes. 1) it was commensurate with the level of stuff up (ie. bad but not on a par with either Essendon or Carlton before us; was our first ever offense and we co-operated fully), and 2) allowed the AFL to establish a precedent for the upcoming tanking disaster with Melbourne (ie. applying the majority of punishment to the individuals involved without crushing the Club).

There is no doubt that Trigg made a huge mistake by not getting the rescinded agreement in writing. I believe though, that a $50,000 fine, and 6 month suspension (not to mention the stigma with living with this) is a massive penalty that he has to wear for the rest of his life.

He resigned when it happened, and has done so many times since, with Chapman insisting he stay on. Don't dare call him dishonourable because someone else wouldn't accept it.

And Jen and us have to believe this because he has never told us a lie before.
He lied to all of us and media ,AFL etc until got caught and was even getting annoyed at those media spreading the so called rumours

What part of this don't you understand? He believed the deal had been rescinded. So when asked if there was a clause in his contract, he honestly said "no there's not". It wasn't until Tippett chose Sydney and the deal went pear-shaped that he had the slightest inclination that it was still in play.
