Never before have I seen a player stop to kick a goal while heading to the rooms for treatment. You legend :thumbsu:

He smothers the ball with his head and is out cold for a few seconds and stretches his AC joint in his shoulder. Limps off the ground holding his shoulder and then finds himself on his own in the forward pocket. Takes the mark almost one handed and then slots a goal 50 out on a ridiculous angle with a massive breeze left to right in the rain. Kicks the goal and then holding his stuffed shoulder comes off the ground. Its been a long time since I have seen anything like that. Truly unbelievable

ABSOLUTELY TOUGH AS ****ING NAILS!!!! :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

How many times will that be shown to the lads as a measuring stick. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

( I must admit though I did chuckle a bit when Bucks said he knocked out Scotty Burns too when he kicked a ball into his head. Ouch! .... poor scotty :( )

I coudnt help but laugh, the same thing happened to me a few years back and Sh!t it hurt. It did not knock me out but my head was spinning a bit. It had travelled about a metre and smacked me fair in the face.

Geez he can kick a footy.

That was in 1998 at the GABBA, and was very humourous.

We may have to abandon the "JA defensive" project.

He's kicked a goal in every game he's played and 20.3 from 9 games, I think, in all. 20 goals 3 behinds from 9 games is a great record no matter who the player, let alone a guy that debuted this year.

He just seems to get to the right spots for a cheapy (crumb etc) here or there, that good forwards get.

I would go as fair as say he is our best set shot for goal of all our key position forwards.

Rapt with his contesting, mongrel, speed, agility and defensive pressure for a guy of 192cm.

Rusling, Reid and Dawes have there work cut out to knock him out the KP spot in our forward line.

Amazing what a difference some footskills make. It means he capitalises on most of his opportunities, which, when you're in your first dozen or so games, are usually quite limited. He gets the ball a few times, and the result is a few goals. :thumbsu:

Its nice to see someone 45 out on a tough angle and think that they're a good chance to kick it. Makes a nice change. That kick where the wind should have made it near impossible was an absolute cracker. Love his attitude to the game also. Won't die wondering.

Anthony isn't a KPF. Dawes has so far shown the most as a pure KP forward. It is between Rusling and Anthony for the third tall option rather than the four mentioned. Anthony should eventually go down back simply by necessity as he can play there. Though it would be good if one of our other tall forwards were as good a set shot kick for goal. We can't afford to have Cloke, Reid and Rusling all in the forward line wasting opportunities because of poor kicking (I do know Cloke has improved, but not sufficiently to be regarded as a reliable kick for goal). Even Dawes seems quite unreliable. I just want to see our forwards kick through the thing, rather than tentatively lollypop the ball up trying to guide it through.

I like this bloke.

Has a lot to add to his game, but his fundamentals are great.

Endeavor, courage, the willingness to compete and win, and great foot skills.

One of those players that bobs up and kicks important goals when you need them like Adam Hunter when the WCE were playing good footy.

Once he learns to command the footy a bit more, and players use him more often he will be a threat to any team.

Will be the last player the opposition want the ball with deep in attack.

Just about already is.

Looks an angry bastrad, axe murder-esque but last night showed he was as tough as nails.

Was a fantastic effort to go for the smoother, great effort to get back up, hardcore to then go at the ball again, and come back on later.

The kid is the personification of a gritty magpie player. Still leads in clokes way occassionally but even fixed that up alot.

Looks good

I can recall McGough in the first quarter taking out Chris Tarrant the same way - smack bang in the face at the MCG against Brisbane Lions. Tarrant had no idea where he was for the rest of the day as he didn't return to the ground.
Best wishes Didaka :)

I understand what you saying and agree to an extent. Dawes would be your lead mark and bomb it long contested mark type player. JA more a lead mark type player and crumb the odd.

I was thinking he'd be a KPF in the same mode as Fevola who is about the same height, if not taller, and gets nearly all his goals from marks on the lead. Fevola doesn't take alot of marks in one on one duels when the ball is bombed in long.

To me it just seems a waste to put probably the best kick for goal among our big men in the back line. Inaccurate kicking has cost a quite a few games over the past few years. We'd still have the bail out option to bomb it long to JA because you know he'll at least create a contest. Remember he is only 20.

This guy is a future cult figure.
He is 100% committed to the team and winning.
If all our players had his attitude we would be unstoppable.
The reason Geelong are so good is because they have the players, but they also have JA's attitude.
You have to go out every week wanting to give that extra 10%.
The guy has decided he wants to be an AFL footballer and is dedicated. :thumbsu:

hes exciting hey , i just love these types of players that attack the contest so hard. JA is amazing with his agression.

must admit i was worried last night though when i saw him go down ,i thought it was going to be related to his neck injury from last year.

I wish all our forwards kicked as well as JA

like this guy more and more each game. we really need a fearless intimidating presence around the play. Good to have the flexibility to play up forward or down back if we need to try something radical. very happy with the big JA

Now I am really confused.
Anthony, with 9 games and 17.3 to his name, having just shown his toughness and accuracy under pressure, is NOT a KPF and yet Dawes with 2 games under his belt for 2.2 has shown more?

Huh?

Very early days.

Why is it that a club cannot have a "horses" for courses forward line?
We have had to rely on Rocca/Tarrant, and recently Rocca/Cloke for so long I think we have lost sight of the fact that it is possible to have 6 or 7 Key position forwards and play them depending on the opposition match-ups, form, conditions etc.
Players like Dawes, Brown and Anthony, who can play forward or back are a huge bonus and I can't see why we have to "pidgeon hole" them.

Dawes.
Anthony.
Reid.
Rusling.
Cloke.
Rocca.
Medhurst.
Didak.
Thomas.
Davis.
Pendlebury.
McCarthy.
Lockyer.
Nathan Brown.
All could slot into the forward line anytime.

God we have some major head-aches coming at selection.
What a problem to have......:D:D makes a bloody change.

A little off topic but as a backmen I have heard the Clement comparisons but I could seriously see the guy turning out to be a bit like Brain Lake. Punching above his weight grade as a FB and then really hurting teams the other way with his footskills.

His reliable goal kicking makes me want to leave him up forward. I think a forward line that has Cloke and Reid as fast leading forwards at CHF with Dawes as a strong marking FF and Anthony as a fast leading FF in the square. Your smalls are going to be alternating between Medhurst, Thomas, Didak, and Davis. All of those players are capable of applying great defensive pressure and Reid aside, all are capable of kicking a bag. (backing Dawes to kick bags based on his efforts in VFL and that he'll be a goal square key position forward.)

I'm not sure we can fit him in the defensive end anyways. He's a third tall type which we've got O'brien, Maxwell and Goldsack occupying/covering those spots.

Backs tend to be able to give up a bit of height. His same height or a cm smaller then Presti and Wakes. In terms of a foward his a third option because he isn't a go to player. He doesn't have the assets to beat defenders often but when he does he uses it well. As a back he is the hunter not the hunted and only needs to punch the ball.

He could very well play FB but you wouldn't want him being your go to player in the fowardline.
