Delisted Jack Martin [Selected by Carlton in the PSD]

Finishing third in Gold Coasts best and fairest is like finishing third in a 3 person race.

He is worth bugger all, done very little to warrant much more than a mid second.

Was ahead of Steven May each of those years - the guy that went for pick 6

Ahead of Lynch 2017 who averaged 15/6.5/2.3 goals per game that year

Saad finished 10th in 1 year And was a second round.

I’d disappointed with anything below pick 20ish but can understand if he attracts less than that.

If everybody don't rate him, let him go to this year ND draft and see Fremantle and other club pick him up in the first round or not. Would case scenario Blues going to use pick 8 on him which is what GCS is asking for in the first place.

Not a hope in hell he is worth pick 8, especially being uncontracted

Then wait until your second round and draft him. I don't think GCS going to draft/trade in better players than him with Brisbane first Rd pick. So why waste time send him to ND draft and see his true value.

Good luck waiting for that

The deal will get done for an overall value in the 20-26 range

Why not let him go to draft, I would like to see him last until second Rd. I rather see this in action and proved I am wrong. Will be funny Richmond pick him up and paid him cheap salary.
Gees you need to know the actual rules before commenting.

A player going to draft will nominate their expected salary and the team drafting him has to agree to that salary.

Seeing as Carlton currently don’t hold a second round pick in this draft, Carlton probably has to split their current first round pick to get their expected deals done.

Brisbane hold Collingwoods first round pick and Gold Coasts second round pick.

So Brisbane could trade picks 15-18 and pick 19 for Carlton’s first.

Then why trade Carlton can get him in 4th round with his expected salary, waste of time. Do you really want to do another O meara deal.

Or

We just offer our future 1st for Martin + Lions pick this year and swapping later picks

Or just a future 2nd

We don't need to trade pick 8 this year to get Martin

The Suns have been burned by two future pick trades in recent years. I doubt they'd risk it yet again, particularly when the Blues are improving and could reasonably play finals next season. I wouldn't be surprised if this deal ended up being an upgrade of four picks or less, which isn't a fair price for Martin.

I see us rising, but I still doubt we will make finals

We are a mid table side next year, although if we have your run of injuries, finals is an outside chance

Plenty of people didn't think the Lions could make finals this season. Some of them were Lions supporters. Big rises and falls can happen, particularly when you have a bunch of players aged about 21-23 who can really break out. But more so I reckon it's the principle rather than the specific team. I expect the Suns to be much more wary of trading for future picks due to recent history, even if it's with a team who are a good chance of missing finals.

No you don’t have to trade 8 for Martin.

But you need trade currency for this year, and unless you’re trading with a team that needs picks for next year to match NGA or academy bids, teams will be very reluctant to take future picks.

From what I read, Martin isn’t your only trade target.

There are reports (on the Carlton board and in the media) that Martin chose Carlton over a more attractive contract offer from the Bulldogs.

Obviously players choose clubs based on a number of reasons, but $ is usually a big part.

I am very bullish on the Doggies' list. And maybe he chose Carlton because he sees less competition for a starting spot. But without knowing his reasons, I choose to take this as a big vote of confidence that Carlton can now hopefully attract players not just via the biggest chequebook.

Our lack of indigenous players and poor track record with said players is probably key here.

It has been said that his friendship with SPS was a factor.

Took a pay cut...

If Carlton get Martin for less than pick 8 awesome if not its gonna hurt. Pick 8 (9) will get you kemp or day all who will be better players then Martin imo
That's the reason I said ah chee trade, why involve other club when you don't need to. GC could easily trade back Brisbane first Rd pick back to them with Ah chee and get multiple second Rd and third Rd back that include GC second Rd. Currently pick 19.
Dont forget Sauce from Adelaide as well! And they'll be sniffing around guys like Cutler and Lewis from us.

Why would be sniffing around Culter and Lewis we would soon smell something bad

I don't think he last until GC Brisbane first round pick in this year draft. You can't paid player big money and pick him up as second Rd.

From what I‘ve read the offer wasn’t exactly what you’d call big money.

I know GC had high hopes for the guy, but at 25yo you cant sell on potential. Uncontracted, dropped towards the end of the season and didn’t make the BnF top 10. A late first rounder would be the best you could hope for with a player like this, more likely an early second rounder. IMO.

I reckon his choice for Carlton had more to do with relationships than the good second half of the year Carlton had

You do realise there is more than 1 draft.

He could nominate for the preseason draft. Only Melbourne to compete with us.

Even if we did use our first pick in the national draft, Suns wouldn't get it. You going to let a player of his calibre walk for nothing in spite? Nope. Good luck retaining the few quality the players you have if that occurs.

Your argument is moot.
