When are you elligable for the draft?
After seeing Lachlan Hansen on the footy show it is clear as daylight that he is a bogan with no leadership qualities./quote]
The only thing IMO that is "clear as daylight" is the space between your ears. All the boys on the Footy Show were a bit nervous and to say Hansen is a bogan with no leadership qualities is a pretty big call. Hansen was voted by his team mates at last years U/18 carnival as the MVP for Vic Country. The players were asked to rank in order from 1-3 the players in their team they thought had the most talent, potential and work ethic needed to succeed at AFL level.
Judging people on their first live TV appearance is pretty harsh. Riewoldt didn't excatly shine, however, I'm not about to call him an inbred 2 headed Tasmanian.
They will both ultimately be judged by their on-field performances over the next 10 - 15 years. Good luck to them both and I hope that in future they develop a healthy on field rivalry.
Gotta say thats one of the most biased outlooks i've seen on bigfooty. Just out of curiousity have you actually watched Gumbleton play? He's been super impressive and has kicked 9 goals playing in the Ruck and Centre Half Forward and in the best 2 out of 3 matches. And your point on Hansen being a bogan is totally irrelevant to wether or not he'll be a good football player in which i have no doubt he will.I voted superstar.
I've seen him a couple of times at Coburg and I'm just super impressed. And I'm not easily impressed (.... are you thinking of a blue car right now?)
As we've seen with Polak, the highest rated KPPs will go nowhere if they don't have the right attitude. After seeing Lachlan Hansen on the footy show it is clear as daylight that he is a bogan with no leadership qualities.
Jack Riewoldt has an arrogance and confidence that rubs off onto his teammates. He has that Dermie look about him, and that is about ten times rarer than a superstar KPP. To get a footballer as talented as him to have such great leadership and attitude qualities is a massive bonus and other clubs have underrated the importance of character (something GM and TW rate very highly; see JON, Patto, Edwards etc)
If you were a player at the Tigers who would you want to train with everyday for the next 10 years? Riewoldt or Hansen?!! It's pretty obvious.
I think Richmond may have picked the best KPP of the draft. It depends on how he stands up in the AFL becauser Hansen has had it harder. Gumby hasn't shown much at VFL yet but we can't read anything into that imo
The general feeling was that Jack Riewoldt was the 2nd best contested mark in the draft - behind Tom Hawkins.
So why did he fall so late in the draft? I was under the impression it was due to lack of leg speed and that's pretty much it. He has the trademark 'Riewoldt endurance', a brilliant mark, great kick (way better than Nick) and brilliant reading of the play.
Thank god that Jack lives at Tigerland and should be a 15+ year champion!!![]()
Lachlan Hansen IS a bogan. Honestly couldn't you see it or are you just defending him?
I have to agree. I saw a nervous kid, that's all. Saying Hansen won't be any good based on a 20 second appearance on TFS is being silly at the very least. And anyone who spoke after Gibbs (who was ultra impressive and had obviously had more media exposure) was going to look like a rabbit caught in a spotlight.Happy as a Kangaroos supporter to defend him against someone who has seen him once on TV.
I honestly couldn't see it benny. Saw 5 young kids who were all pretty nervous on National TV for the first time. As I said calling someone a Bogan after a few seconds on TV is a big call.
I saw his media interview on Draft day on Channel 10 and he spoke very well. Also caught up with him at the Kangaroos family day at Docklands and he was very approachable. We all have off days.
Obviously you could see it, but then again as they say,
"it does take one to know one"
