Congrats guys,

Great pick up, and a good price. Would have been more than happy for Port to pick him up for this price.

Carltank - Unlucky, glad you guys got shafted.

Not hopefully we can get rid of Motlop.

So the net result of the ruckmen trade is:

Out Griffin, pick 67
In Jacobs, pick 61

So we upgraded ruckmen and picks!!!!!

THAT, MY FRIENDS, IS A WIN!

:D:D:D

Rendell is a genius.
Sin City reckon Rendell is an idiot! :D and we don't have Swann and Icke! :D

Swann and Icke all the way!

Courtesy of the Griffin trade, our picks are now 14 and 61. After that it goes into the early 80s. Looks like we'll only use two picks.
I'd be betting on us only using 1 pick. Phil Harper said that we weren't going to use pick #67.. I doubt the story changes much now that we've got pick #61 instead.

The senior list balance sheet is now:
OUT:
Edwards (retired)
Burton (retired)
Hentschel (retired)
Bock (defected)
Doughty (upgraded to veterans list)
Jacky (delisted)
Griffin (traded)
Total = 7

IN:
Henderson (upgraded from rookie list)
Tambling (traded)
Jacobs (traded)
Total = 3

We now have 4 positions left to play with. It's safe to say that we'll be doing 2 more rookie upgrades and using pick #14. That leaves one final decision - use pick #61 or upgrade a 4th rookie?

Yes, it just dawned on me then that I'd been counting Doughty the wrong way - thinking he reduced the number of picks we could take rather than added to them.

Sounds like Schmidt and Jaensch are both likely for an upgrade then. We have a nominated rookie spot up our sleeves so we'd only upgrade a third in Thompson if we felt we were going to get another rookie in the upcoming rookie draft that might play in 2011.

Welcome to the AFC Sam:D.

I'm very glad that we didn't give up Pick #14 for him. Pick #33 and #67 for Jacobs is a very good result for us:thumbsu:.

Think you're forgetting pick 33 there mate :o

True but if you bear in mind that Griffin was going anyway and the difference between 61 vs 67 is nothing then it's effectively

Jacobs for Pick 33 and Griffin (who would have been delisted if one of the WA sides hadn't picked him up so he could return home.)

Great work by Rendell and even held off on the Grif deal til the Jacobs deal was done so Carlton couldn't ask for 61 instead of 67.

Rendell played this beautifuly and Carlton have been completely Swicked over:thumbsu: (Just kidding I think 33 and 67 is fair)

I don't think Schmidt would be a chance for a game next year assuming we don't get 5-6 injuries to mids. He is very far down the pecking order. What about Thompson?

Sauce welcome to the AFC :thumbsu:

Great work Matty R and co

I can imagine that the Carlton board will be imploding :D

Yep, that's the way I see it , too. And the live AFL trading site says Rendell has packed up and gone, saying AFC are finished, so I doubt the Sellar to Vic whispers are true, hence no better picks.

My bet is we will only use #14 unless a player on Rendell's famous list slips through to #61.

A couple of observations:
  1. We don't have to put Doughty on the Vet list. If we want to use up some salary cap for a year pending next year's trading, we could keep him on the primary list (counting all his salary, not half) and have 2 nominated rookies. Same outcome in terms of the playing list, but different outcome in salary cap terms.
  2. Jaensch, Thompson and Wright are all first year rookies now, so can stay on the rookie list, even if nominated rookies (but surely my mate Matt will be upgraded :D). Schmidt, on the other hand, is a second year rookie. IIRC that means if we don't upgrade him he must go into the ND before we get the chance to give him a third rookie year.
Edit: Forgot Aiden - he's a first year rookie in the mix. He's also an ex-NSW Scholarship rookie, so can be on our list in addition to the max number of rookies we are allowed.

Great news! Welcome aboard Sauce.

Lets hope your turn out to be the first rounder Carlton know you will become

****insert evil laugh here.

Welcome aboard Sauce. I never doubted Rendell as it didn't require reading out numbers or saying the name Jacky.:D.
