Saints have done well to land a first round pick for him.

Essendon have rocks in their head offering 700k/year.
What else are you meant to do with $2million space in the salary cap? To give up no draft picks and secure a best 22 quality forward is a no brainer. Would rather that than burning a second round pick on a soft fringe wannabee half back flanker or an end of first for a bloke who can't get a game at another club and is softer than playdough...

I think it was good for all parties at the end. Essendon paid overs to attract a RFA which is generally required by most clubs trying to attract players so not having a go at Essendon. Saints received band 2 which was the minimum requirement. The landscape changed when Shiel went in for a knee operation.

He's going to contribute more than McKay who's on more money so...

End of first is pick 20 which will blow out.

Also, Essendon along with West Coast are the only clubs that don't have that increase in salary over the next few years incorporated in their contracts. Essendon therefore offer a little higher than the market to factor that in. From a compensation perspective, clubs would want their RFAs to nominate Essendon and West Coast because the contract will be bigger in value with this arrangement. Essendon and West Coast however save cap space in the long run. It also makes managing the salary cap much easier.

The 700K is closer in value to $600K for other clubs throughout the life of the contract.

Does Dodoro have a plan or does he just make things up as he goes.
Just because hes not filling our biggest needs doesnt mean he isnt filling a need. Clear upgrade on Snelling/Guelfi/Menzies who are below a good standard.

p.s. McKay thread is here: Confirmed - Ben McKay [Joins Essendon as RFA]

700k for a depth player too.

Madness, but hey they have to use their warchest somehow.
It's above average but it's not exorbitant for a best 22 player, when you consider that it won't be going up with the CBA and under the new CBA average salary will be over 500k.

The article linked below has loads of information about the uplift clauses and TPP of each club, St Kilda got a mention too. Apparently our two clubs and West Coast have the most space in the next few years because Essendon and West Coast don't do uplift clauses, and St Kilda don't do it very often. Probably explains why the Saints were willing to match on what many nuffies seem to think is a lot (which it would be, if it was going to increase by 37%).

in 7 months time we will extend him 2 more years at 500k a year

3.1 mill over 5

620k a year

Thats the avg AFL Salary for 2028

and 100k more than 2027
The AFL would go absolutely insane if essendon was involved in that sort of thing again after daniher.

Would be funny to watch though.

Your allowed it

Your allowed to have triggers written in your contract
We aren't talking about triggers. We are talking about smoothing out a contract that was inflated to produce a compo. They went batty when it happened with Daniher (but there doesn't appear to be a rule about it specifically).

Would be interested to see what would happen if it happened with essendon a second time.

Dodoros making multiple deals happen. How's it going over at the Hawks? Anyone made it over there yet?

Gresham is a good in, cost us no draft picks.
Dodoro always makes moves. What goods it ever done? Who could forget the fabled Stringer Saad and Smith trade period.

You draft poorly and trade in the wrong types of players. The list is a mess!

That is the same as triggers though in essence
