Arrogance? How so?

it's not like we traded a bunch of late 20 early 30's in. All the 3 trades were early 20 in age so are most definitely a long term look.

Arrogance isn't the right word. Its easy in hindsight but Stringer and Saad are 'cream on the top' players. Perhaps Essendon did a Malthouse and over rated their list position in the off season?

I was bullish about the Bombers list before the ban, ie during our threepeat. However their stars are not getting younger and after Heppell, there is a real lack of grunt players in the midfield. I wonder if they would not of been better off going for 2 younger ball winners than 2 outside players last year?

Smith will have an excellent career at Essendon but I think the other two are a bad fit.

I don't have an issue with getting them, they do make the team better and we are building for the long game. If this years trade/draft period isn't spent on getting inside players then heads will need to roll. No more utility players we want to tuen into mids, just select good old tough ball winners.

At this current rate we'll go close to a top 3 pick, I'll need to start looking at players and see what is a good get.

I’ve liked having Tom Mitchell and Jaegar O’Meara as hard ball getters. Was a good list strategy.

Youse should consider something similar

O’Meara will play his eight consecutive game on friday night against Sydney. Remember when opposition supporters said he was cooked and will be lucky to play another 5 games.:thumbsu:

I was one of those guys lol. Seriously props to Hawthorn, whatever they did worked because it looks like he’s getting better and better.

73% game time only in a game that was in the balance??
Hawthorn have a team of super medicos that cure bung knees we were told. It's only round 8 and he's getting around like he's in his 60's.

At least he’s getting around

He wasn't bad last night. He wasn't an A grader or anything but he wasn't bad.

13 touches and some terrible basic skill errors. How is that not bad?

I wasn't going to comment because everyone has a stinker now and then and it's not really worth it, but I just don't think you can say he was good at all.

He was horrendous last night and has been average at best last few weeks...however he’s now played 8 consecutive games for the first time in years. He needs a rest. His early season form was very strong. People forget he’s still young and is still improving his match fitness. He is the least of hawthorn’s issues. Him and Mitchell will become an a-grade combo. Shouldn’t play against Brisbane next week.

He's 24, at what age do AFL players stop getting called young?

Exactly.

We're just getting into excuse making territory.

I actually don't think he's been that bad this season, he definitely hasn't been as good as all the hawk fans said he was going to be and last night was a stinker, but he hasn't been terrible.

But young he most definitely isn't

So C+ and no longer young?

He's mid way through his career (if he can get to 30 which is a massive if) and right now he's just an average midfielder.

He's the same age as Dom Tyson and probably about the same level, just a meat and potatoes type of player that every team needs.

Not making excuses. 24 is not old. He still has at least 6-8 more years of good footy left..I don’t wear rose coloured glasses like other hawks supporters. I said at the time and still believe it was a terrible decision. Especially where the list of the club was at. But the decision was made and you put your trust in Clarkson and his team.

This current hawthorn team aren’t challenging for a flag this year or next. They will make the finals this season but that’s a poor reflection on the rest of the competition. Most weeks guys like Tim Obrien, Brendan whitecross, Taylor Duryea, will Langford and James Frawley are still playing. Not many teams would have a worse bottom 5 players currently.

The next two seasons is about getting games into JOM and forming a strong duo with tom Mitchell. His good games this season have been very good. By the time he’s 26 or 27 is when a real judgement will be made. He’s either going to be one of the games best midfielders or he will be lucky to still be playing if his knee is cooked.
