In another thread Hawthorn fans are saying Mitchell is their best midfielder by far in 2018, and that he is carrying the midfield this year. If that is the case it doesn't say a lot for O'Meara. I personally think O'Meara is going okay, but no more than that.

It’s nice when he we see glimpses from him. Also see Mitchell having less possies.

I don't think he's too far off. He's not there yet, he's definitely trending upwards.

Put it this way, if JOM was a random player who had come into our side averaging 22 possessions, 6 tackles, 4 clearances, 3 i50's and a goal every game, we'd be impressed.

As it is, nobody on bf will give any credit until he's selected for AA. Which is understandable because that's how he was tracking previously. I'm thrilled, however, that his knee is being successfully managed.

Very close to an All-Australian squad now in my opinion. Excellent come back by O'Meara and particularly the staff at the Hawks who've allowed him to grow and regain his confidence without pressure from within.

Agree good season and well done to him but wouldn’t have him in AA consideration for this year.

To end the suspense......apparently Tom Mitchell doesn't rate in the top 20 midfielders in the comp, so JOM is no chance.

When you trade what Hawthorn did for a player you expect a bit more than just solid output, you're expecting a perennial AA player. So it's fair he/Hawthorn get no credit for the trade until that happens.

If it was a random player who cost that much but only had similar output he'd be receive a lot more criticism than Jaeger has. For the most part people understand the injury situation so let him off relatively easy.

Credit to the guy for his comeback from injury and I hear he got 30 possessions the other week, but he is so far off AA it's not funny. There's a pantheon of other mids in front of him, lead by his mate Tom Mitchell.

Strange comment really. The guy is averaging 22 disposals, has reached 30 just once; and is solidly average in every stat category (4 marks, 0.7 goals, 4.2 clearances, 6.2 tackles). It's ok, it's not bad, but it's a long, long way from AA standard - particularly for a midfielder when there's so many better players out there putting up better performances

well I don't know.

You wouldn't be unhappy for sure. Maybe if he was a teenager you'd be impressed.

But if you're referring to a 24 year old established player then I don't think impressed would be quite the word. And that's not even taking into account when he arrives as a boom recruit - which shouldn't be really given he's still recovering from a long stint out and serious injury

Spot on, this year was about getting his body back into the swing of regular footy. With another pre-season and confidence in the body/knee, hopefully he can go to another level next year.

You can see his biggest issue is building his tank. Seems to be in the thick of it early on, 17-20 touches sometimes in a half but then tapers off a lot with fatigue. Will come with another pre-season or two.
