There is no better organised, more influential propaganda lobby than the AIPAC in the USA - in Australia it's AIJAC. They organise junkets for journalists in order to get favourable press; seek to censor those in the media who criticise; stop those who have an alternate view from public platforms; and from a pollies viewpoint effectively organise politically. The latter being why politicians of all persuasions take the line of least resistance in this David and Goliath conflict.

It's surprising that a people who have suffered so much would want to inflict so much suffering on another people who have so little.

My feeling is the only way this matter will reach a reasonable settlement is for a political party in the USA to reduce the huge economic support to Israel in order to force Israel to compromise and we all know that is not something the weak-kneed politicians we elect will ever do. The last thing you'd do is inflame the situation by following a course of action that no other country or president has and side with the oppressor.

It's not a coincidence it's about the structure and belief system of the party in question. There are institutional bias.
The republicans have a bias towards idiots or people that appear to be idiots.. Its a conservative thing. Denail of basic facts like global warming is a requirement. They may well smart people but they are forced to spout idiotic things to meant the requirements of their core political activist groups.

really centre of Judaism? really what does that even mean. Most jews had nob contact or knowledge of Jerusalem during that time. Religious Jews in Palestine considered the founding of Israel as sacrilegious.
